“New name, same chef!”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

This restaurant, now known as "Penalty" has the same chef and same concept. Food is really good and nice to have over a good converstion with friends. Wines are carefully chosen to go with the dishes and the black bread is amazing, you can buy it also to take home.
The only problem of this restaurant is that it is difficult to find but on yhe other hand it is a well hidden tresure.

“taste explosions”
Reviewed 30 September 2012

We ate here twice and could't believe our luck at finding 2780 Taberna. We arrived speaking no Portugese and the waitress had to work hard to explain the taster menu. She went away and came back with a printout in English of the menu. As previous reviews state the menu stays the same for about a month. Each plate was a delight and (lovely) surprise, I found the food exciting and full of fun. For example, the pizza was fried pieces of pepperoni and dabs of tasty tomato sauce with the thinist wedge of 'pizza base' which was just fun, another plate consisted of mackerel with beef consomme, what a combination and it worked. three of us ate and the bill was as follows; Dinner for three = €82.50 bottle of Lasso white wine €15 (the wateress remembered what wine we ordered from our first visit) Exellent Service Exellent Food. I was too busy eating to remember to take photos

“Creative low cuisine”
Reviewed 12 September 2012

Just loved the concept. Chef deconstructs flavours oand brings them with an innovative touch to the table. The fixed menu is also very well conceived and always ends with a great and different desert! A must!

“creativity with surprising flavors”
Reviewed 20 July 2012

Tasting menu that changes every 45 days.
Good food, great staff and great environment for a cosy dinner with a small group of friends or just for 2.
They don't have credit card payment and if you want a vegetarian option, call first.

This has nothing to do with the restaurant but I just loved that the chef had an orange apron ^_^ but... i am an orange geek ^_^

“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed 25 January 2012

The place has a very nice decoration with old school tables and cozy lightning in a quiet small room with few tables. The food is an experience, that they call "Low cuisine" , starting with the creative dishes names and description. They play with the names and create a funny fusion of ingredients to reflect the title. There is only one menu and you're offered a party of flavors during your experience. I remember that from 5 dishes, I loved 4. We had 2 starters - mixed textures of chestnuts and shrimp on a stick , 1 fish dish - Cod fish, 1 meat dish - slow cooked lamb and 1 desert- pumpkin sweet with chèvre ice cream (inspired from a portuguese typical sweet). If you like to choose your food this is not the place, but if you like surprises and great food, this is the place. The wine list is not very large but covers most of the needs and they definitely know their wines. The service is friendly and casual.
It is definitely a place to revisit. Don't forget to book some days in advance or you will get disappointed, and start your dinner with the great Hendricks gin. Food bill - 29 eur
