Good base for exploring the Barossa but nothing special
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Mar 2008
This hotel is located in the heart of the barossa and there are many wineries nearby for sampling.

The rooms are comfortable, and clean, and each of them has a nice view of the hills & vines from the balcony in the room.

The bathroom is adequate, the shower is over the bath, and it is clean, however it is not as modern as I would have liked for the price I paid for the room.

The pool is nice, we went swimming one night until around 10pm, which was relaxing with plenty of room & nice surroundings.

One complaint is that the checkout time took incredibly long due to lack of staff. It took us nearly 40 minutes to complete our checkout, which caused us to run late for a meeting with friends for breakfast.

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel, and whilst clean & comfortable & in a good location, next time I might try to find a b&b for a little more character.

Having said that, if you want to stay in a hotel rather than a b&b, this one is the best in the area in this price bracket & If your planned visit is to see the barossa & it's wineries & for a comfortable night sleep, the Novotel Barossa will do the job nicely.

Booked directly via the Hotel and they were happy to match prices on their internet if they changed prior to our arrival. We are a family of 4 so when they offered Breakfast for an additional $30 it was worth it especailly being a full buffet. Tanunda is quiet and great to drive to all the 52 wineries in the area. Well we only made to around 7as it was hard on the children to be interested when you are wine tasting but bought a few bottles and enjoyed them. Its so close to Jacobs Creek Winery.
We had an apartment which needed updating but was comfortable. They are still in the process of renovating. The pool was great and quiet during the week we stayed. We were basically by ourselves. Weather hot, staff were great and location perfect for a birthday celebration. We shopped at the supermaket and made sandwiches and grabbed take away for dinner from Tanunda. Would highly recommend as there is lots to do for families and couples. I had a great spa treatment at ENDOTA whilst there.

A little pricie but worth it for a couple of days escape.

We stayed in a refurbished room and the towel rail fell off in our hands. The restaurant never had the booking we made and when we finally sat down one hour later and were served food it was raw. Dessert menu was offered at 11pm and we were told we couldn't have the dessert we wanted because the chefs all finshed at 10.30pm. It was like staying at Fawlty Towers - the staff were all trainees - apparently they chase the group market and the Big Truck conference arrived on the Sunday during our romantic weekend away. The Endota spa was great but the restaurant was overpriced, the staff don't communicate and for your money stay elsewhere.
After spending $500 on a meal on the Friday night the maitre d' offered us 1 free drink (when we saw her in passing) on the Saturday to compensate for what she said was a really bad night of service. Stay elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Novotel Barossa Valley for 2 nights last week during our holiday in South Oz.
At first I was a little concerned about booking here as the reviews were not that great. But I am very glad we decided to stay! We paid $140 per night and the hotel was lovely. The staff were incredibly friendly and more than happy to help out. The grounds and views from your own balcany were amazing. The rooms are large, clean and welcoming with a king size bed - the bathrooms were nice enough however I don't really like the shower over the bath.
A meal at the restaruant is a must do! The food / service / drinks everything was truely amazing! The fondue especially is to die for! Prices were fairly good as well - for $200 we had cocktails, champagne, a $70 bottle of wine, entree, mains & the giant fondue. Very good value for money (if you are from Western Australia especially).
Overall a very happy stay and will definately go back.

My partner and I stayed here for a one night getaway from Adelaide. The drive up is easy enough and the hotel golf course and grounds present well. At check in, I seemed to get the impression that the staff were uniterested to serve and expected to take phone calls even when there were many people lining up to check in. The staff were very much on a script of what to say and didn't exactly give a welcoming tone. We stayed in a studio room which was nice enough. All rooms have balconies overlooking a valley with tables and chairs. For a studio, the room was nice and big. A stovetop, microwave, sink and fridge are all included in the rooms if you wish to cook something while you're there.
I thought the bathrooms could do with some bleach/mould killer as the tiles around the shower in our room featured a significant amount of grout mould.
The hotel restaurant looked incredibly expensive and the menu wasn't particulalyl tempting so we went into Tanunda and grabbed dinner. We did experience the buffet breakfast the next morning as it was included in our room rate. There was plenty of food on offer for the buffet but, as others have commented on here, staff were unattentive at clearing used plates and cutlery.
Overall impression: Great for the Barossa if you don't like cheap motels and having to put up with bed and breakfasts. I don't think it would hurt if other hotels did the same and opened up some more of these in the Barossa as the Novotel seem to have a monopoly on hotel style accomodation at the price, but not at the service you would expect.

Thank you for the comment I am disappointed that your stay was not indicative of the high standards we maintain at the Novotel Barossa. We are currently in the process of a $2.25 million Accommodation Rooms refurbishment due for completion in November 2008. I would be more than happy to discuss your stay personally, if you could please provide your contact details. Kind regards Benjamin Krieg

I booked a stay at the Novotel for a very special event - proposing to my now fiance. The staff were brilliant and helped me arrange everything to make the day extra extra special. They went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had the most wonderful and memorable stay. The hotel is based in a beautiful valley with amazing views from each room. The hotel facilities are excellent with plenty to do or places to chill out. The hotel spa is a wonderful facitlity also. The location is perfect for exploring the Barossa and the rooms are excellent. I thoroughly recommend you stay at this hotel.
