My wife and I arrived here on a hot afternoon after a long drive ready for a pleasant overnight stay. The reception we got was somewhat underwhelming. One member of staff did smile and found our reservation quickly, but smiles were evidently being rationed that week. Our room was rather tired looking, but clean and with a comfortable bed which was the most important thing. As the hotel is quite a distance from the town and we didn't want to drive again that day we decided to eat in the restaurant and booked a table. We went into the bar for a drink before dining and were eventually served, but not with a smile. The meal was okay, nothing special but not bad, but again no smile. After dinner we went up to our room and discovered that although the air conditioning was making the right noises there seemed to be little in the way of output - we should have contacted reception and mentioned this but we were too tired at that point so went to bed. A comfortable bed it was too and we woke feeling we'd slept well.
We went down for breakfast only to discover that the smile famine was still ongoing, in fact the lady on reception didn't actually acknowledge our presence at all!
Breakfast in the bright and airy restaurant room was a standard continental with some hot food, and very nice coffee and - surprisingly - a smiling lady to keep everything topped up!
We checked out after breakfast and almost got a smile as we did so. Almost.
Sadly this was not the hotel we'd expected it to be, perhaps we'd been spoiled by the Mercure Saxe-Lafayette in Lyon which was absolutely fantastic, even the Mercure which we stayed in before Brive, at Carcassonne had staff who were able to smile!
Maybe the whole hotel is tired and needs to have some TLC, it might even spread to the staff.

This mercure has excellent easy access from the A20 and is a very quiet spot considering its proximity to the road. Lovely pool, friendly staff, comfortable beds and good access to local town and shopping area.restaurant good, patio and bar creat a pleasant atmosphere to relax in after a long hot drive. Staying on the way back too!

In amongst trees, looking retro but modern inside. we were a little disappointed that it was way out of Brive but the website did say this.
We took the Harley out again and had a little ride around the town returning to eat in the hotel. Food was good and staff were helpful.

Totally ignore the website description of this hotel's location of "in a park setting near the city center". It is at least 4 miles from the city center, near a highway intersection & in an industrial zone populated by other hotels. However, having said that, it was an OK place. Nothing in the immediate surrounding area other than other hotels & 1 single, restaurant that is only open from Noon-2:30 & 7-930PM. Nothing else nearby. Mercure is a step above IBIS, in the Accor hotel chain, & we noted the negative reviews of the rooms. However, the hotels seems to have completed their renovation & our room was quite fine & spotlessly clean --- & if you are familiar with my reviews you know that my #1 concern is cleanliness. I can put up with anything else if the rooms are CLEAN, & this hotel, like the vast majority of Accors hotels, was clean. Our room overlooked the swimming pool, so if you are there in the summer you might enjoy this. You need a car for this hotel, & not a need to be near the city center, but otherwise it is a solid choice.
