Ruboni Community Camp
Reviewed 16 August 2013

We stayed for two nights in a self-contained banda, which is surrounded by trees, flowering shrubs, singing birds and by the nice flow of a stream. The place is quiet and the staff is very friendly and hospitable. Food is good as well as the view and the hill walk. The countryside is very peculiar and is worthy a visit per se. Moreover, the community participation to the camping site is a further reason to appreciate the site and the accommodation.

We stayed here for one night and made a lovely forest walk! The rooms are basic but very clean and in the evening there is even a hot shower. Friendly staff. In the evening we saw a glimpse of the Rwenzori Mountains (Mountains of the Moon) Diner was simple, the breakfast was nice! Fresh coffee and fruits, juices and pancakes. We can recommend this place as a nice stopover between the Crater Lakes (Fort Portal) and Queen Elisabeth National park.

A beautiful terrain on the base of the Rwenzori mountains is the home of this community camp with adequate banda´s with shower. It runs on a few suncells so don´t expect any luxury.
Still the view on the mountains and the peaceful environment compensate a lot.
The food served in the restaurant was not very good and the communication with the staff rather slow.

Room Tip: The ones on top have great views but are not self-contained and the ones below vice versa

My wife and I stayed at Ruboni Community Camp for one night while we were travelling through the Rwenzori Mountiains. We stayed in one of the two bandas.

The accommodation is set in an idyllic setting, next to a stream with wild flowers everywhere. The view from the restaurant across to the mountains is beautiful.

The bandas are basic but functional - twin beds in each room with warm blankets. It is very eco-friendly: Electricity is solar powered so no noisy generator at night - but not strong enough to charge things so make sure everything is fully charged before going there. The loos are Eco-San toilets which work well and are clean. The showers were very hot - just ask the friendly staff to get the water heated first.

We went on the hill walk, organised through and supporting the local community. It was quite steep ad slippery but stunning and well worth the effort. They can also arrange forest and village walks.

In summary, the guesthouse is very well run, clean and secure and supports the local community. It is basic but fine for one or two nights, and good for those on a budget and looking to explore the Rwenzoris without having to pay park fees.

Room Tip: The Bandas are self-contained and involved less of a walk than the other accommodation.

I stayed at the Ruboni community camp after attending the Rwenzori mountains visitor information centre launch and the Mahoma trail launch at the Rwenzori mountains national park for 2 nights. The facility has well furnished rooms, self contained Bandas, and a restaurant all lost in the thick rain forest Eco-system. The camp has well trained and presentable staff drawn from the local communities.Enjoying the spectacular view of the snow capped mountains open up in the morning from the comfort of your veranda as you par-take in the delicious and well prepared local cuisine is a scenery to behold. Meals are well prepared and served in time, the facility is solar powered and the security of the area assured the National Park Rangers' post being located in the vicinity.

Basic but clean accommodation about 20km off the Kasese to Fort Portal Road. Across a lane from the Rewenzori Mountain Service lodge. Great location on the edge of a village in the foothills of the Rwenzoris, just outside of the National Park itself. A perfect base from which to explore the National Park, or to just relax and escape from the modern world.
Well fed and taken care of by Enoch and the other staff members. Jacob took us for a forest walk in the morning and the village walk in the afternoon. Very interesting, allowing us to get a good feel for life in this community, and to appreciate the efforts being made to promote community tourism.
We spent 2 nights in the camp, sleeping in our own bungalow, and would have been very happy to have had more time there. Very quiet, though in the lodge and we met no other travellers while we were there. A shame when it is such a beautiful place.
The same can be said of Uganda itself. A beautiful country with friendly helpful people that should get more tourism. Thank you to Felex and Stephen who ensured we had a wonderful holiday. Phyll and Joe.

Placed just at the border of the National Park, but outside, so you don´t have to pay the fees.

We slept in the bungalow, and spent two nights there. Staff is helpfull and wishing to show you the surrounding areas. It is very basic lodge, but everything was clean, and the food was good. It was a peacefull area and we met some interesting tourist at the terrace while playing some board games and enjoying the views. So it makes the perfect place to relax and cool down for a couple of days....or to base it as a camp if you want to explore the area deeper.

They offer several activities to keep you "busy" during the day: forest walks, comunity tours and the park entrance.
