We have stayed here quite a few times now, always in one of the hot tub rooms. The rooms are lovely and well set out. The hot tubs are great when you want something a little special.
The food here is always amazing!
We booked to stay on New Years Eve and did have a great night however had alot of problems trying to check in and check out. We waited for about 15 minutes to check in and what felt like 30 minutes to check out. I'm not wether this was because they had been busy with the NYE preparations but it was a little frustrating.

I would definatley stay again but maybe on a standard night rather than NYE.

My wife and I were in the bar/restaurant 14.Jan 2012 and ordered fish and chips. The food was served about 5 minutes later. The fish batter was very dark and tasted burnt. The chips were soggy. I think that the food had been previously part cooked then put into cooking fat that was too hot or was not fresh. We complained. The manager came to our table immediately and put about £26 on the table. He was not interested in our comments but just said that we could go back to the bar with the money and order something else fom the menu or we could leave. He said he never argues with customers and that customers don't pay for what they don't eat. It truly was a Faulty Towers experience. We left and will never go back to such rudeness

We booked here for New Years Eve and were not disappointed. Having dined here before we were already impressed with the food.

The rooms are modern and clean and the breakfast had ample choice with excellent service.

If the New Years Eve food and service was anything to go by (canape reception, hot and cold buffet, mini desserts, cheese board - all brought to your table bar the buffet) then I would certainly recommend to anyone looking to hold a private party.

There is a seperate function room with its own bar and dance floor area and with accomocation so reasonably priced its definitely worth considering.

We will be trying Sunday lunch sometime soon as we have heard good things about that too!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the hot tub.

Just stayed here for 2 nights. I loved my say here and would recommend it to anyone. It is a few miles out of Chester Le Street, just set on its own. Excellent rooms, excellent food, excellent staff and excellent beer.

Sixty years ago I was born in The Travellers Rest Hotel, as The Moorings was called then, because my dad, Larry Porter, was the landlord, so my family and best friends decided this would be a great place to celebrate this landmark birthday.

I want to thank all the staff at The Moorings for the fantastic part they played in making our weekend such a huge success. It was lovely to be back up in the wilds of Co Durham staying in clean comfortable rooms and having great meals - wonderful breakfasts and an amazing celebratory dinner in the bistro, Everyone was lovely, so attentive and helpful and I would recommend the hotel, and the restaurant very highly,

Claire David

Stayed on business for one night. Was delighted with my room which included a private patio area and hot tub - unfortunately it was out of use this time but I'll be checking for my next booking.

The bed was very comfy, shower nice and powerful and staff friendly and helpful.

Quiet location, so no traffic or town centre noise to contend with.

Food was very well prepared and presented for both breakfast and evening meal.

I'm looking forward to working in the area again.

We stayed here for two nights with another couple and I must say we were delighted. The rooms were very clean and organised with a very comfy bed! The owners seemed to pay attention to little details and it works!
We ate both nights in the pub, the first night downstairs and second night upstairs. The food on both nights was fantastic such good produce. The staff were exceptional and we have never had such a warm welcome from every member. A real pleasure to stay there.

Room Tip: all rooms seemed good
