“Like coming home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

We have stayed at the Old Town Hotel for many years whilst travelling across Europe to the black sea coast. It is a small friendly hotel and the owners George and Irene make us so welcome that you feel like one of the family. Each room is individually designed and furnished to a high standard with original artworks everywhere. The rooms are clean comfortable with all the luxuries of a boutique hotel that you would find in the middle of Paris and pay a fortune for. The breakfast is included and is massive and varied.
It is positioned right in the centre of Vidin in easy walking distance of everything parking is available.
Luckily we will be staying again on our journey back to the UK in a few weeks time and will look forward to it again.
With the new Danube bridge now open it is so easy now to get there.
Dog friendly - Snowy gets as big a welcome as we do.

I've stayed 5 month in this hotel. Owner and staff were doing everything to make guests having a wonderfull stay in there hotel. It's very nice to feel welcome and that's important when you have a longer stay from home.
George and Irene you're doing a great job running your hotel there.
There will be no doubt, when I will be in Vidin region again, I want to stay in Old Town hotel.

We have stayed at the Old Town Hotel on two separate occasions and enjoyed it both times. The hotel owners, George and Irene, provide a personal touch. We have become friends with them in our times there. They provide excellent service, and great rooms.

The rooms are large and very quaint. Though there are only 9 rooms, they vary significantly in their size. Yet all of them are large and well furnished. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and well managed.

The hotel provides breakfast each morning in a small, intimate dining room. The breakfasts have good variety and quantity.

The location is convenient for walking about the town square, shopping in the outdoor market, or walking along the Danube. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. And, a bank is located in the same building.

What I like best is the friendliness of the owners and their staff, as well as the size and quaintness of their rooms.

We visit Vidin every few years, as do many of our friends, and this is the place we keep coming back to.

Again stayed at "the old town hotel" the standard is still great, and the owners still leading from the front to ensure the guests have everything they need, we can still enjoy afternoon tea in the lounge !. home from home, well done to all, keep up the good work, see you in the new year. Kindest regards Simon and Sue

Planning to stop the night in Vidin during a road trip through Romania and Bulgaria I decided to try and contact the main hotels in the town I had managed to locate online in order to check availability, prices and so on. From the hotels contacted by email (a number of the emails just bounced straight back), this (Stariat Grad?) was the only one to reply, providing all the information requested in a timely and corteous way.

With the driving on the Romanian side (at least on the route I took) proving challenging, to say the least, it soon became apparent that my expected time of arrival at the hotel was getting later and later, so called the hotel and explained the sittuation and asked if it would be a problem to check in late. They very kindly reassured me there was no problem.

After crossing the Danube on the ferry from Calafat in Romania, reached the hotel quite easily. It is just inside the old town walls by the main (modern) square of Vidin. Sure enough there was someone there when I eventually arrived just before midnight to show me to a very nice room and reassure me that I could park just on the road outside the front door of the hotel and wouldn't have any problems.

The hotel was very nice, even though the wallpaper may appear a bit dated to some. Really nice bathroom, very clean, lovely bed, very quiet location and premisses.

After a very restful sleep, woke up to a nice breakfast that included boiled eggs, nice ham, two kinds of cheese, some nice bread and honey, butter and a descent espresso, some yoghurt and fruit and some not too bad fruit juice. Not having had a proper dinner due to the later arrival it was very welcome.

Before heading out the proprietor and her husband, who spoke good English, were very helpful, telling me about the town and where to get stuff and what to check out.

I would unreservedly recommend this clean and friednly hotel to anyone planning to stay in Vidin. It is walking distance from the shores of the Danube and the various places one might want to visit in the town. Being also within walking distance of the station it is convenient for those traveling by rail too.

We stayed in the hotel while we were looking for property in the Vidin region. A great deal of work has gone into making the accomodation pleasing to the eye, as well as clean and comfortable, and the location is ideal - a few minutes walk from the Danube and right next to the main square and one of the old town gates. But it's the owners that really made our stay.

We found the family that run it, as well as the rest of the staff, to be friendly, cheerful, warm, and helpful. Everyone worked very hard to make our stay as pleasant as possible, and when they weren't running around making sure the hotel was perfect, we had many opportunities to talk to them about Vidin, Bulgaria, and themselves. Without meaning to gush, we can't say enough good things about them.

The lovely Old town hotel, Vidin, Bulgaria is a four month old hotel next to the old city gates and walls.

IT is a bespoke hotel and run with passion for family service in a setting overseen by the owners Irene and George.

The hotel is just yards from the shops, parks and the fantastic river Danube.

George oversees breakfast and it is a delight to be in his company.
The hotel staff are great nothing is to much, and with them being English speaking, it is added value if it is your first visit to this fantasic location

  • Tips/Secrets — ask hotel staff where to eat or eat where local eat and you will get fantastic value, about £5.00 each for starter and main course with drinks
