I am a Nilamburite. I take this as an oppertunity to invite all who are showing interest to study the geographical conditions especially the golden designs of the famous Nilambur teak. Nilambur is a beautiful small and fast growing town of Malappuram District in the Kerala state . The first teak plantaion in the world is at Nilambur. All details of the teak plantaion and the general information of the teak trees are well explained at the Teak Museum. The Teak Museum is about at the end of the Nilambur town. It would be better to come and experience the atmosphere and utilise the facilities provided at the museum rather than to explain in words. There is garden, play ground to young children and a nice forest atmosphere around the museum along with monkeys and butterflys as natural habitants. I heartly welcome to all those who happens to read this review and request to visit this place to have a nice experience about the real natural forest and lot more. Feel free to contact me to 9946305109 because I can help you.

“A very relaxing and educating experience”
Reviewed 3 November 2011

A two in one experience with a park and teak museum put together. First ever teak museum in the world, the Nilambur teak museum is a dream land with varieties of flora and fona, especially teak and bamboo. My visit being on a weekend, was a very crowded affair with lots of students from neighbouring states visiting.

Let me use few words from wikitravel here to appropriately introduce the teak musuem: The Teak Museum, (4 km away from the town, on the Nilambur-Ooty state highway). The world's first Teak Museum. In the Teak Museum, a visitor can have a first hand information on all aspects of teak. Established by the Kerala Forest Research Institute in collaboration with the Kerala Forest Department, it is thematic museum housing historical, cultural and aesthetic and scientific aspects of teak, all under one roof, arranged in the two storied building. A collection of bamboo trees on the way to the museum imparts a special beauty to the place. The carved teak door at the entrance of the museum has a painting of the oldest living teak tree, the Kannimara teak.Among the several exhibits displayed, the root system of a mature teak tree is perhaps the most interesting of all. Paintings on the walls remind one of the early histories of teak planting. The miniature model of an antique sailing vessel made of teak wood and a painting of a sailing ship are the other attractions. Logs of a 116-year-old tree have also been preserved. A world literature on teak is available in the library.
