My son and I stayed at this sweet motel for nine days while visiting relatives. It was conventiently located close to the Yorkeys Knob beachfront - a 30 second stroll to the beach front and local cafe for a coffee. What was so refreshing about this Cairns accommodation was being located on the ground, surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden and pool, rather then being several floors up in an impersonal apartment building away from the stunning scenery. It was famly friendly as well as perfectly suited to couples. Neighbourly with the other visitors, without being intrusive. A great barbeque area close to the pool and the rooms all have cooking facilities and air conditioning. We stayed in a double bed/twin bed unit which was ideally suited for two or four person. But the biggest mention must be about the host, Peter, who is extremely helpful and available for any questions you may have: from hiring a car, booking the best and most economic Great Barrier Reef trip to booking accommodation in other parts of Queensland. He's honest and looking to obtain the best deal for his customers. He has loads of return business which says something about the type of place it is. Yorkeys Knob is the third closest northern beach from Cairns so it's still very conventient to take the bus into Cairns or if you are heading north or up to the tablelands it's also well located. I cannot recommend this place enough. This was my second time to Cairns and I would certainly book it in the future when I return for another holiday. It's very reasonably priced and what you get for your buck is a lot more than other places around this tourist focused area.

I have been staying at Villa Marine once or twice a year for the past few years and always look forward to going back. I first found this hotel quite by accident but quickly fell in love with the place and it's surroundings. Set in tropical gardens, the units are comfortable and very clean. They are well equipped and all have air-conditioning which I find wonderful in the summer. Also a bonus in summer is the lovely swimming pool which has as its background a beautiful and natural rainforest. You will see many beautiful birds and hear them chatter away to each other.

Villa Marine is to be found at Yorkeys Knob, which I consider to be the most natural and pretty of the Cairns northern beaches. The hotel is a minutes walk from the beach. The boat club and Crocodillos Restaurant are only minutes away from Villa Marine and both provide lovely food.

Peter, the manager of Villa Marine, takes enormous pride in the hotel and in lookiing after his guests. He goes out of his way to make your stay pleasant, organizes trips with great efficiency and is a fountain of knowledge about what is available in the area. Don't miss trips to the reef - - - try Silverswift for an amazing reef experience - - - -the Atherton Tablelands, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, Cape Tribulation, tropical fruit wineries and so much more!! Just ask Peter. I hope if you decide to go to Villa Marine you will love it just as much as I do.

I found Villa Marine through the TripAdvisor. In the past few years, I study the reviews before booking. All the reviews for Villa Marine were extremely positive both about the place and the host, Peter. I am so glad I found this place through TripAdvisor.

From booking, to arriving, to advice with regard to planning our stay, Peter was an extremely knowledgeable and helpful host. On arrival, we couldn't believe the setting and the room. Unbelievable! One side looked out on the pool and courtyard, the other directly into the rain forest. It was hard to decide which side to sit on for tea. The suite was complete with kitchen and everything a traveler might need.

Through a short interview, Peter knew what activities we would like most, and helped us book a trip to the reef, and a tour to Kuranda. In each case, we were picked up right at Villa Marine and did not need to have additional transportation. He even ensured that we would have a taxi get us to the airport for a 5:00 AM flight.

Villa Marine is located at Yorkeys Knob, just north of Cairns. It is located minutes from a fantastic, yet quiet beach and right at the edge of the tropical rain forest.

My only wish was that I had much more time to spend at this fantastic resort. I highly recommend Villa Marine in Cairns.

We (2 adults and a 3rd for the second week) have just spent almost two weeks at Villa Marine, and rate it highly! Yorkeys is a small, peaceful town on the coast just a short trip to the other side of the airport from Cairns, and Villa Marine a small and natural corner of YK, just yards from a wonderful beach. We wanted a mixture of busy sight-seeing and quiet days; Villa Marine was an excellent base for both; you can just have a quiet swim in its very refreshing (believe me - its great once you're in) pool and just sit quietly reading, making your own food in the well equipped unit; and the beach/surrounding area is great for water sports, swimming and walking. We ate at the local restaurant, boat club , and from the local take-away - all of which were reasonable and well worthwhile. Our trips were organised by Peter, from VM, who was very friendly and helpful with regard to every aspect of our stay. We were either collected from our unit or simply drove (the car-rental being organised by Peter). The outer reef is an absolute "Must", even if you are not a confident water-baby as there are a range of options; Port Douglas is a lovely place; and Cairns is worth a quick visit to see the promenade/swimming area - the local bus is an easy ride along the coast. Daintree is fascinating, with lots to do and see, and we only touched on the delights of the Tablelands. Just around our unit we saw a wide variety of birds and butterflies, and rainforest wild-life, including bats at sundown.

Villa Marine itself is a small, well-run collection of units with good basic amenities and a good-sized pool; excellent value for money! We received a friendly welcome and friendly, personal (but not intrusive) advice/help/service throughout our stay; and enjoyed Peter's obvious delight in local wild-life. Its a quiet, restfull base in a lovely area; if you wanted more high-life I guess it would be an easy trip into Cairns; but personally we felt this would be a waste of our time in such natural charm and quiet.

Wherever we went we found the Australians to be friendly and helpful - from the moment we landed at Cairns Airport, which was quiet, quick and efficient, both on arrival and departure!

We have just returned from an excellent holiday at Yorkeys Knob just out of Cairns and we stayed at the Villa Marine. This place is clean, reasonably priced and excellent value. The surroundings are wonderful, the pool is fantastic and the service by Peter, the manager, was exemplary. We could not have asked for a better holiday and can't wait until the next time we stay.

If you are going to Cairns, check this place out. It's best to hire a car for your stay as there is SO much to see that is easily accessible by car. If you want a trip to the reef, go to Fitzroy Island. Avoid Green Island at all costs if you want peace and quiet.

Villa Marine is family friendly. It is quiet but close enough to everything for a wonderful holiday. The Knob itself is just great and the food at the Marina and Crocodillos is terrific.

Highly recommended!

This 8 unit self-contained hotel has something for couples, singles and families. It is in a pleasant suburb just north of hectic Cairns. Each unit has its own fridge, stove, microwave, a/c, tv and private patio. There is a pool and laundry facilities. A sandy beach is just steps away. You'll wake to cockatoos on beautifully maintained grounds. It is only a mile from the skyway way that takes you across the rain forest to Kuranda. It's close to restaurants and groceries. It's a great place to base yourself for daytrips to Cape Tribulation, the Great Barrier Reef, Atherton Tablelands, Mossman Gorge. Peter, the owner, is friendly and helpful...will arrange tours, transportation, or just give you information & advice about the area. A fellow traveler recommended this place to us, and we liked it so much that we stayed for a week.

Our seven-month round-the-world tour included just over a week in Cairns. We wanted self-catering accommodation in a quiet area close to local wildlife (especially birds) and Villa Marine was just what we were looking for. The room was fine, there's a pool just outside and the motel adjoins a strip of rainforest, with the beach just a couple of hundred yards away.

Peter the proprietor was a mine of information on local attractions and arranged some memorable trips, including one to the Barrier Reef and a wonderful day with a local bird expert - we almost lost count of the species we saw in a wide variety of habitats.

If we visit North Queensland again we know where we will stay!
