“Peace and Beauty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

After driving through snooty (and expensive!) Saanen and Gstaad and a winding, narrow road you arrive at what seems like the end of the world/road (the road does continue further up to the lovely mountain lake - great starting point for hikes!). You are at the Alpenland hotel. If your room faces south (you pay more), you get from you balcony the same spectacular view as the other guests get from the Hotel terrace. You look across a nature preserve (a protected swamp meadow) to the mountains and a spectacular waterfall. Even if the weather isn't cooperating it's lovely.
The rooms are spacious, so is the bathroom (with a full bath). The breakfast buffet is richly endowed with eggs, cheeses, cold cuts, juices, various cereals, yoghurts, fruit salad etc.etc.
The dining room serves (by Swiss standards) reasonably priced, quite excellent food. The management and staff couldn't be nicer - highly professional, unobtrusive, but always available.
Complete peace and quiet, and yet you are (also by bus) only 20 minutes away from Gstaad and Saanen.
Fantastic.

Room Tip: South-facing rooms are a bit larger and more expensive, but have a spectacular view!

We stayed here for two nights while hiking in Switzerland. This is a lovely family-run hotel; peaceful with good-sized rooms. The food is of a very high standard - we ate dinner twice. The view from the large outdoor terrace on a sunny day is fantastic. Certainly a very good location for some summer hiking.

clean, welcoming, helpful, fantastic room, stunning food, great location..... I really was amazed at this hotel and its location, the whole package is amazing, the views are out of this world, the staff cannot do enough to help and the rooms was a palace.

The food was fresh and some of the best I have ever had.....so tasty and well presented.

The hotel was busy and well supported by locals also...always a good sign

A TOP HOTEL AND I WOULD GO THERE AGAIN WITHOUT A DOUBT

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful......

Hotel Alpenland is one of our favorite hotels in the Bernese Oberland. It is peaceful and quiet with a big terrace overlooking the mountains. We just love the staff - they are so authentically friendly, always prepared to help and give advice with a big smile. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. The restaurant serves some traditional dishes that are not fancy but very tasty indeed. Even after a late dinner, we can't wait to have breakfast with the large choice of pastries, breads, yoghurts, cheeses and eggs.
We go to the Alpenland 2 or 3 times a year. Great hiking in the summer and just step out the back door and you are on some fine cross country ski trails.
Only 10 minute drive from Gstaad, we highly recommend this hotel.

One aspect of my love for winter sport is to enjoy the rest in silence, surrounded by nature and very very very few people - this hotel did it for us.
Excellent staff throughout, very clean rooms, the restaurant is also very good. right in front of the hotel there is also a small ski lift.

A wonderfully situated, clean, comfortable and efficient alpine hotel. Located at the start of a great X-country skiing circuit, as well as at the bottom of a downhill ski-lift, the hotel overlooks a wooded valley, at the end of which three impressive peaks dominate the view: the Spitzhorn, the Galtenhorn and the Wildhorn.
Functional, spacious rooms. Excellent restaurant with all the regional dishes (try the Rösti with cream spinach and fried egg!), where also an excellent breakfast is served. Lovely outdoors terrace, for lunch in the sun!
Easy to reach, the hotel is a great place to relax, do some sports (in a low-key, family fashion; outstanding hiking in the summer) and/or go to the slopes, exclusive restaurants, spots and shops in nearby Gstaad. Lauenen is a picture postcard; visit the beautiful little church on the eastern outskirts of the village!
The most important asset of the hotel is its staff: while Swiss efficiency can be taken for granted, Alpenland friendliness is worth a special mention!
Book ahead; the place is no longer a secret!

Room Tip: Nicest rooms face the Spitzhorn, the Galtenhorn and the Wildhorn!

The drive out from Gstaad to this hidden gem is spellbinding. If the sun is out, there is no place nicer to order lunch and admire the majesty of the mountains in the distance. We had lunch on New Year's Eve and basked in sun outdoors whilst enjoying a lovely meal. There is a small ski run in front of the hotel and a lovely trail for hiking or cross country skiing along a river. A highlight of our ski trip to Gstaad.
