nice place for stop-over in Redon. Very basic but clean and located in the town center nearby the local market (opens in the morning better to visit before 9 am, gets crowded later). No parking but there is a vast parking area over the corner - 3 mins walk. Friendly English-speaking staff, reasonable price - we paid Eur 60 for a double with baby cot free.

Room Tip: rooms facing the rail line nearby are noisy even at night

We stayed here before and after 18 days cruising on the canals.
Excellent location and just around the corner from the train station and near the Locaboat departure site. Friendly. Helpful. Clean rooms. Despite being close to the train station we never heard the train. Perfect location to get ready for a canal cruise. Directly across the street from the market. The managers speak great English and didn't laugh at my French.
A great little hotel right in the center of Redon.
Great value!

I'm not so sure if I was in the same hotel as some of the other reviewers. The hotel was used for a one night stopover on a tour of France as we wanted to see Redon. We arrived early afternoon but had to spend time in town as our rooms were not to be ready until after 4:00 pm. The best way of describing the 1st floor room is to say that it was fresh and had all basic requirements but the room floor was some kind if vinyl and the shower area/bathroom was tiled - I am always a little suspicious of a room with no carpeting!. The windows were very secure and well glazed with an operable shutter as the noise from passing trains was loud with the windows open. I was supplied with a fan without asking which got the air temperature down to an acceptable level for sleeping. The hotel is well located for seeing the town and there were plenty of nearby bars and restaurants as well as the one located at the foot of the hotel. This was right on a busy street and did not seem as appealing as some nearby in pedestrian precincts. Acceptable but I would not rush back.

This hotel was fantastic and a breath of fresh air, following our stay in a terrible Paris hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and spoke very good English. They responded to all requests promptly and with a smile, and the breakfast service was great. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, and we didn't have any issues with the hot water as per some of the other reviews. Location-wise this accommodation was perfect, and we walked everywhere with no issues. Car parking was secure out the back of the hotel, but the laneway is very skinny so beware. Luckily we had a tiny car! Redon is a charming and beautiful little town, one of our favourite place in France. Worth a visit, and worth staying at Hotel Asther!

Room Tip: No lift (that we could see) so lower floors would be best.

I stayed here last night, as I was interested in visiting Redon. The hotel is a charmer, an easy five minute walk to the rail station, and mere minutes from no end of cafes, restaurants, etc. The young couple that own the hotel are amazing; they seem to be manager, staff and cleaner. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, and the wifi is exceptional. It is real value for money, and if you're near Redon, stay there!

Apologies for the length......

We almost gave up on the Asther as we found it difficult to find – in fairness we kept passing it by whilst driving a rental car on, what was for us, the wrong side of the road. The entry is a single door set back off the street, to the right of a low and narrow lane running under the hotel to the “very tight” car parking space behind the hotel. Once inside the tiny reception area I was glad to have persevered as what the hotel lacks in the way of an entrance is made up for by the warmth and efficiency of the young husband and wife team who run it. I found the hotel on Booking.com and was expecting to have to pay more than the Eur59 online price, but this is what I was charged. I was also asked if I would like to check the room before I committed!!! From my experience this is a rarity in France.

Our double/single bedded room on the 1st floor amply accommodated us for the couple of nights we stayed. Although the hotel is old, our room had recently been redecorated with quirky French wallpaper – a wonderful antidote to some of the more banal rooms in town. Whilst the bathroom was small, it did have enough space/hooks/shelf space for our needs. The bathroom and bedroom were really clean, the beds were comfortable and fitted with crisp white cotton sheets. I was a little concerned when I saw trains passing by on an elevated track to the nearby station. I cannot sleep without adequate fresh air so leaving the double glazed window open we were expecting some disturbance during the night but both nights we slept soundly.

We opted to have breakfast at the hotel in their small breakfast room and were glad we did as David serves really good coffee to complement the yoghurts, cereals, freshly baked bread and pastries. The WiFi system is fast, free, available throughout the hotel (handy for planning over breakfast), and they are happy to give you multiple logons for laptops\phones\ipods etc. It is worth noting that the hotel - surprisingly -provides room service meals until 10pm - handy when you arrive late and don't fancy dressing up to go out! The parking is a bit of a tight squeeze to get in and out of, but there is plenty of parking around the corner opposite the supermarket and public pool (right out of the hotel, first right and 75m on the left). The area is well lit and we had no concerns leaving our car overnight.

As for Redon, the town with its river, canal and historic buildings, and warm ambience, is well worth a visit. It also has an abundance of cafes, restaurants and some nice shops to placate a 13 yo shopaholic! The smaller outlying towns of the district are also well worth visiting including one (can’t remember the name #@>*$@) which had a wonderful bistro overlooking the 13th century covered market place.
