Longji Ping An Hotel
Ranked #5 of 69 Hotels in Longsheng County

Travelling through China brought us -after the Bejig, Xián and Guilin- in Longji. Quiet en time to relax. We stayed in Longji Ping An hotel. Wooden building (as is the whole village), but very comfortable with great service. But the best: a fantastic view from the balcony! The hotel / the village is not accessible with car, so you'll have to climb to the hotel (10 min). Great place to make some nice wanderings in the surroundings. Pity we had to go....

This wooden hotel lies in the midst of the cluster of buildings in Ping'an village. It took us 15 minutes to climb up stone steps lugging our overnight bags with us. The village bag carriers lost all interest in our group as soon as they saw our knapsacks! No chance to make a quick buck from us. We had booked a triple room for RMB350 a night but the receptionist said our booking was for a family room consisting of two connected rooms for RMB500. I decided to just accept the family rooms for bigger space. The rooms had 2 beds each and shared a bathroom. Each room had a TV and a heater and there was hot water. There was no handle on the bathroom side of the bathroom door and my daughter and I got locked in! Luckily we had another person in the room with us and she let us out. We reported the broken bathroom lock to the hotel but they told us there was nothing they can do until the lock they had ordered arrive. Fair enough but it would be good for them to warn their guests so they won't get locked in. When we came down later the receptionist realised her mistake for our booking and gave me a refund of RMB150. I had expected her to ask us to vacate our rooms for the smaller triple rooms but she did not do so which was really nice on their part. It was easy to walk to viewpoint 1 from the hotel and the views were fabulous. A longer walk round the top rim of the rice terrace brought us to viewpoint 2. We did not have dinner at the hotel but at a farmers restaurant a few door away which served really nice food. Sleep that night was really pleasant. Silence was all around at dawn and I woke up to await the sunrise from the balcony. The air was fresh and crisp. The view was incredibly beautiful with the sunrise over the rice terraces. Breakfast was basic but adequate. Friendly staff. Receptionist could speak English.

The Ping An Longji One Hotel impressed me from the moment we made reservation until the moment we left the hotel car for yangshuo. A small family run hotel with international hospitality standard. Tthe hotel owner and her family responded very quick and accommodated to our needs. We changed our bookings numerous times and even requested a car pick up at midnight at Guilin Airport (it's about 2 hour drive at night), she never turned us away.

Upon arrival at the Ping An Village gate, the family in their ethnical dress, greeted us and there were about 3-4 ladies. Although they were trying to 'help' you with the bag packs, still ... they warmed and surprised us. We got a twin room with one-side mountain view which was good enough. Room is small (by my size of UK10) but remarkably comfortable including bedding and mattress. It is cleaned and insects free. We really had a good night sleep there.

We had breakfast and dinner there. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked. We particularly loved the pancakes. In terms of car service, the driver (also part of the family) arrived early to make sure we saw him and safely drove us to next destination next day. Oh ... I must add a point for myself - as I did not pack a jacket ... the mother of hotel owner kept asking me if I needed extra blanket or their ethnical style jacket. That warmth and care are well received and that' what I look for in this trip.

Room Tip: we booked too late to get a bigger room. My twin room is just good enough for my size (UK10),. if yo...

What a pleasant surprise this Hotel was. A great reward at the end of a walk up to the Longji Rice Terraces via some 500+ irregular stone steps. A great wooden hotel, complete with wood panelling, wooden staircases that creaked a little, and the typical mountain air filling our lungs. With touches of past hill holidays in Kashmir/ Dharamshala/ Kodaikanal, this was a short, but most welcome respite between much of the rest of rather polluted China.

Room Tip: We occupied a room on the 2nd floor and were comfortable, but for the footsteps that could be heard...

I was a guest at this hotel because it was selected by my tour organizer. The organizer kept warning this was not a 5 star hotel so my expectations were low. But what a pleasant surprise. While this was certainly not a big-chain style hotel (and should not be given its location), it was a winner in many ways. Above all, it stood out for its view, its location, and deck (all noted by others). Our room, while simple, had readily available hot water, air conditioning, and a TV (the latter two completely unexpected). Room internet was very poor, but lobby internet was fine. Breakfast was simple, but abundant and tasty. Staff was friendly and service good. Only thing that stunk was the bus ride up the mountain to where the hotel was located--dangerous, poorly run, and poor service...

Room Tip: Get a room that allows you to see the sunrise without leaving the hotel.

The rooms were nice and airy and the balcony had a great view. We found the staff very pleasant and kind. The beds were hard but comfortable. The food and coffee were great. Some of the staff speak English very well considering the location.

This is not a Western style hotel, and its in a village. We were kept awake by some neighbours enjoying a game of mahjong and woken up before dawn by the local roosters.
