“Fascinating Experience”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Ping An is a lovely little village that reminds me of the phrase "the land that time forgot". It's quite remote and the villagers for the most part do not speak English. Life there seems to me to be much as it was 100 years ago. If you're headed up to Longsheng to see the rice terraces, spend some extra time here!

“Stay overnight”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Beautiful little village looking over the rice terraces. Would strongly recommend staying overnight for the best chances of getting a good view of the terraces. It rained on and off when we were here, but it wasn't too bad, and we were lucky enough that most of the time it was clear enough to have great views. There was one time when the clouds and fog rolled in, and the entire view was obscured, but most of the time the views were incredible.

It is a bit touristy and commercial, but still well worth a visit. There are a lot of stairs to climb to get up and down to the village, which can't be avoided. Porters are available for a fee to carry bags up to your hotel.

Be aware that there are limited supplies available and most things you buy will be pricier than elsewhere, but everything has to be transported up the mountain, so it's to be expected.

There are lots of cafes and restaurants, most of them attached to hotels and guesthouses.

“Friendly and Unique”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

The village people were warm and welcoming. We enjoyed watching the daily movement of people and goods. The working ponies were fascinating to observe as they climbed the steps carrying their loads of lumber and other materials. The shopping was interesting too with many choices of locally made items.

“Lovely little village in the middle of the Rice Terraces”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

This is a very very nice village. The only downside is that there were loads of shops on the way there but once you were there it was wonderful. You could capture the spirit of real Chinese life through looking at the Zhang minority. Beautiful! Also you should walk back to pingan to Dazhai. That is a lovely walk.

“A Colorful Village With Brightly Dressed People.”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

The village was so attractive with the unique looking black roofed houses. Occasionally, we saw minority women in their bright clothes carrying baskets of fresh produce. There were people who carried tourists in their makeshift carriers. There were many souvenir vendors along the way. Some women sat by the road doing some embroidery. This was an interesting village.
