We stayed at Kewarra for a 5 night stay in one of their huts during our 2 week vacation. When we booked the shuttle, we were told that it would be there upon our arrival with a sign, but it was not. We had to go outside and look for it. Once we located the shuttle, our shuttle driver was extemely helpful and nice. On our way out to the resort, I was growing increasingly concerned with the location as I was beginning to feel as if we should have rented a car. I was right, after looking at the bus schedule-it comes once per hour. I did that immediately upon arrival, it was a good move as we were then free to come and go as we wish. Note: do not rent through the resort, they are considerably more expensive that what you can get on the internet. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with a tropical drink and check-in was speedy and efficient. We were then escorted to our hut after a lovely tour of the grounds. I will say that the hut overall was nice, no bugs, fairly new bathroom, but the decor needs a little TLC. The bed was pretty comfortable, but it was two twins pushed together? It was nice to be in a secluded location away from other rooms and the walk to our hut, was nice and relaxing through the rainforest. We had lunch at the beach front cafe, which was slow and overpriced, but actually very good. The beach was okay. I know it is not something the resort can control, but it was very dirty and no chairs, but within minutes walk from our hut. I did very much enjoy the rainforest setting, especially in the evening when having drinks or playing on the internet in the public access area, very airy. One tip--pay attention to your bill very closely. They made a mistake on a couple's bill in front of us when checking in--they charged it to the wrong room. On our bill, they charged us for items out of the mini bar that we did not use. They did make this right, but still not something that should happen. In all, it is a very secluded, romantic location with a lot of privacy. It is also very relaxing as there are numerous waterfalls and it is a fairly quiet resort. I would probably stay elsewhere on my return due to lack of amenitites, but sill in the area, probably Palm Cove.

We were met at the airport and were swiftly on our way to Kewarra, about a 35minute journey from Cairns. We were greeted with a cocktail and soon settled in our bungalow or 'Moud' as they are called. The setting for Kewarra is amazing. You are in the heart of the rain forest which then leads out on to a beautiful beach.
The hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful 10 days. Rooms were spacious and kept spotlessly clean. Food was excellent and each day there was a chef's special. Service was excellent with staff always making time for a friendly chat. They took a genuine interest in our holiday and our excursions. Julia provided superb advice for our sightseeing and we enjoyed every minute. The hotel pools were unheated and a bit shaded but other than that Kewarra offers a unique setting. The beach was beautiful and very quiet. The hotel is situated in a lovely residential area but you are a little remote from shops and other restaurants. You would have to travel on the bus to Palm Cove or Trinity beach for alternative eating places.
We left very early on our last day 4.30 am and the staff arranged for us to have some breakfast sent over to our room before we left.
We hired a car for a couple of days and visited the Atherton tablelands and Port Douglas area up to Mossman Gorge. Well worth doing.
If you want a peaceful setting away from the hustle and bustle then Kewarra is for you.

We stayed here for four nights recently. The location and beach are beautiful but the so called resort is hugely in need of a major refurb. On looking through the reviews in Trip Advisor again after our recent visit a lot of them are most surprising and not in line with our experience. The restaurant was overpriced and mediocre both in terms of food and service. Palm Cove hotels look a much better option and the 'Nu Nu' restaurant there quite excellent.

On returning to our 'deluxe garden bungalow' 1970's style after visiting Palm Cove we were both left wondering about some of the recent positive trip advisor reviews.

On a positive note Tropical North Queensland is simply stunning but stay in Palm Cove or Port Douglas.

Kewarra, Manager at Kewarra Beach Resort & Spa, responded to this reviewResponded 23 May 2011

This review was posted shortly after new owners and management took over Kewarra Beach Resort and was just prior to when we carried out a major $2½ million refurbishment and renovation project.
We are delighted to advise that this work was completed in 2009 and all accommodation has refreshing new soft furnishings, enhanced fixtures and in room amenities including new flat screen televisions, quiet energy efficient air conditioning, complimentary in room high speed internet access, along with environmentally sensitive lighting.
Our public areas received a beautiful makeover with a new forest restaurant situated overlooking the beach, a stunning new reception, bar and lounge area with vertical gardens and new soft furnishings. We have also opened a fabulous new Day Spa and beachside café.
Following a successful recruitment drive and thorough in-house training programs our service standards are second to none and we pride ourselves now on having the very best hospitality staff in Australia.

After a lot of research we booked the Kewarra Beach for the end of our three week trip to Aussie as our wedding location. Prior to us arriving the staff were really helpful in arranging sending our clothes over and communicating regarding lots of details. We weren't disappointed when we arrived. We stayed in one of the beachfront mouds. Contrary to previous reviews ours was immaculate inside and out. Obviously the floor had been polished recently as every time we walked in we surfed on the rug to the other end of the room. We didn't see any bugs in the room at all. Although the bed was two singles pushed together we didn't notice and we were on our honeymoon!!!!

Yes the restaurant was expensive and there was no other alternative, we ate there twice and both times it was delicious, particularly liked Wirra Wirra Mrs Wigley Rose. There is a public bus that you can catch to Cairns or Palm Cove, which we did, to eat out on the other nights.

Our wedding was everything we thought it would be. Although we didn't meet our wedding planner until the day itself and not too sure what it was that she planned as there was only the two of us and we sent all the documentation etc. However Karen was a star and communicated with us from our first email to arriving to witnessing the marriage. Suppose they booked the Celebrant , Wayne, and photographer, Leesa, who were both excellent.

We had a lovely time in very beautiful surroundings and I would recomment it to anyone.

Yes there were little faults but they didn't detract from our stay such as, Staff on the whole were very pleasant but a couple of times dismissive and slightly rude. Housekeeping could have been better, I am slightly compulsive about bed making but I could feel the sand on my toes when I got into bed from the previous night so took to shaking out the sheets myself each morning. We were late up one day and the bed wasn't made up properly as if to say they didn't have to time cos we were late up. I have to mention the loudest housekeeper in the whole world who was intent on laughing at around 7.45am outside our moud. They obviously don't appreciate late risers.

We did bring up the problem about the sunbeds on the beach but Jonathan, at the beach bar, went out of his way to solve it for us and offered to get the porters to bring down beds from the poolside.

The bus the Cairns wasn't running also. When I enquired about it I was told that they were too busy to run it!!

These didn't spoil our stay and we would stay there again.

We spent four nights at the Kewarra Resort . The individual mouds (huts) were very private, clean and comfortable and the beach front location in a rainforest setting was idyllic. Moreover, the entire hotel and dining staff were exceptionally accomodating and gracious. In particular, Julia at the travel desk went above and beyond to be make our visit most memorable. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and resourceful; she was even able to arrange for us to go to a platypus pond. Additionally, one of the hotel's drivers took us to see many wallabies in a nearby field. If we are lucky enough to be in Queenland again,we would definitely stay here.
