“Fantastic place, fantastic people.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2014

The Plantation's USP is it's people. By the end of our week, it felt like we were being looked after by friends, not staff. One of the friendliest places I've ever been lucky enough to visit. Don't miss the trip to Paradise Beach on Sundays to watch the wrestling.

first time to Gambia, somebody said to me you will either love it or hate- we loved it.
The plantation is like a small oasis with beautifully tendered gardens, guest bungalows, restaurant and bar area All staff are local and are passionate about ensuring you have a lovely holiday. There are organised trips (just check any add ons for entrance fees etc), staff will walk you around the local area and also drive to places of your choice for an agreed price- or you can do you own thing. We went half board- traditional and tasty meals by Moussa's and Solly.
Don't forget you are in Africa, shower pressure is poor but water is always hot, the national grid often crashes but the hotel's generator provides back up. This is part of the experience and made me appreciate what we have at home. The hotel is away from the main tourist area which suited us, nearby is a lovely stretch of beach where we swam regularly (by the Pelican Bar). We felt totally safe during our stay and realised why they call it the smiley coast.
My stay enriched me.
Just to add- another guest fell ill and had to be hospitalised for a couple of nights ( nothing relating to the Plantation). From my observations the staff went over and beyond to ensure the couple received all the help and care they needed around this difficult time, Nikki and Nolan kept in regular contact.

Thank you for your wonderful review.
we are so pleased you loved it at The Plantation!
Our generator is invaluable as back up, as is the solar for the bar, restaurant & shop.
I agree the showers are not power showers! We are currently looking at ways to improve this. (As you said this is Africa)
We keep in touch with our staff as often as possible when we are not there,to check all our guests are happy.
Hope to welcome you back to the smiling coast again.

Stayed for a week in February 2014. What little gem of a place. Off the beaten track and takes a little to find but more than worth it. Spotless ' Gambian' style roundhouses set in a walled compound with well kept spotless gardens. The staff are absolutely delightful and we were genuinely upset when we had to leave. NOTHING is a bother for the staff who all have a permanent smile. Musa ahd Sol the two chefs add specials to the existing menu everyday and the food and hygiene is faultless ( look out for the butter fish goujons and the chilli prawn pancakes they are lovely ). A small swimming pool adds to the whole chill out feel of the place. I rarely give such high praise so I havent written this lightly. £20.00 a night ( ish) you would struggle to find duch value for money. The staff love playing cards after dinner and chatting.. be warned they all cheat!!! Great staff great place.

We visited the Plantation for a week to escape the clouds and rain of England. We wanted to stay somewhere peaceful and relaxing but where we would still feel like we were in Africa. The Plantation ticked every box and was a wonderful base. The staff are a naturally friendly bunch who are very proud to be part of the Plantation "project". They clearly want to make people feel welcome and at home so that they will visit again in the future.

We spent the odd day just lazing around the pool or playing cards in the bar but we also arranged trips out using the Plantation's own transport. These were relatively inexpensive and you got what you asked for.

The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard every day and the food could not be faulted - well done Chef Musa!

You are encouraged to go either half or full board and either is very good value considering how well priced the accommodation is.

The Plantation's location in Brufut means that you are about 20 mins drive from "The Strip" in Kololi / Senebambia but we saw this as an advantage as you could choose each day whether to get involved in the hustle and bustle of African tourism or just chill out nearer to the Plantation whether walking down to the beach or the nearby nature reserve.

We'll never forget our "Gambian Experience" and definitely aim to return one day.

Thanks, to E and all the staff, you are a great team!

What a holiday! Truly a home away from home. We stayed for four weeks in January and had a fantastic time with the staff, Nikki and Nolan and the other guests. The compound was peaceful and beautiful. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The staff is ever so helpful, they always had a friendly, joyful manner about them. Even the guard dogs looked after you. And what about the food.... gourmet dining every night. They even got me eating fish, which I haven't done ever. Definitely value for your money, highly recommended!

Thank you Nikki and Nolan and the staff for making our stay memorable!

Anna and Niina :)

Best holiday ever. We stayed over Xmas and new year. All the staff friendly and helpful had a great time. Rooms clean only place I have ever stayed were the pillows don't smell. Food was good and location was perfect for a busy or relaxing holiday. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: All rooms good
