I am staying at 'The Phesant' on business. The Hotel accomodation is sepeerate from the Pub and Restaurant and so very quiet.
The staff are excellent and friendly apart from being efficient.
Roberto and his wife have apparently completely revamped the whole business since taking over.
The Restaurant seves Italian food cooked expertly by Roberto e Luanda.
The tea and coffee making facilities are a real boon after a long day
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I prefer the first floor and there is free wifi

Overnight stay for friends' anniversary party. Rooms large, clean & very comfortable. Coffee, tea and even biscuits provided which was nice for something light before bed. Friendly and helpful service overall and breakfast was good. Was sorry that I wasn't staying longer as the restaurant/bar looked good.

Stayed the night before my wedding and found the room to be of better standard and value than travel lodges, the breakfast the next morning was also better than your average. Back to the Friday night, I found the restaurant/bar to have a great choice of food and wines. Service and food standard was also very good, many thankd

Stayed at The Pheasent Hotel for two nights and was pleased with the standard of the room and found it to be good value for money. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very enjoyable. I ate at the pub/restaurant on both nights....the pizza was the best I have ever eaten, and again very good value for money.

A small hotel adjacent to a pub/restaurant. Plenty of parking. Rooms similarly equipped to a Premier Inn, with TV, tea/coffee and even a trouser press. Shower in my room was pretty poor, but plenty of hot water.

Restaurant food good (mainly Italian), though on the expensive side. Friendly bar staff in the evening. Breakfast in the morning was good (plated to order), though coffee did run out for a short while!

A Sainsbury supermarket is a 3-minute walk away. Not much else in the immediate vicinity.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear car park for a quieter room.

A friend and I visited a couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday evening. We found it to be quite busy which is great to see. There were a selection of good wines on offer (bin ends) but as I prefer red and my friend white, we decided on a glass each. Both were fine. The new menu is rather disappointing. Not keen on the layout or colour. Is the pasta and bread still made fresh? It didn't appear to be prominently stated (I may have missed it). The starters are heavy on mushrooms, a big no for me and I couldn't see anything I wanted. The main courses were fine. I had seafood fusilli which was good. My friend had the homemade lasagne which she said was lovely.
The waiting staff were helpful but we did question (quietly) whether the waiter's English was fluent or whether he was hard of hearing. There was confusion on each order, We did clarify though so we received what we ordered.
It was lovely to see Roberto again and great to see the red pepper and pesto tart on the specials board. A plea - more of an Italian influence, more fresh fish choice, a statement on whether the food is still locally sourced, is the meat organic/grass fed , is the pasta made on the premises still or fresh or dried? Good to know and really influences my choice on where I eat. All this used to be clear on the menu and if still the case but not mentioned I think you are missing an important selling point.
I did see a comment on the site about the rude chef? Really? Roberto has always been charming and very helpful with menu changes.

Tried the Pheasant Inn last night for the first time and pleasantly surprised. Service very good, friendly and prompt. Had thought there would be more of an Italian influence front of house, but a mixture of English and Polish service. Given from the reviews that the owners/chefs are Italian, it would have been nice to have a little more authenticity. Food was good, reasonable, although I would question £3.50 for a portion of coleslaw if required. The fusion of a local pub with restaurant/hotel is a challenge, but better than most of the options in town. All I would say to the owners is keep to your Italian heritage and allow us all the experience of that and hire Italian staff. Overall good experience, but room for impovement.
