“Surprisingly great hotel...”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

Although I arrived to find there were some problems with my reservation, even with the hotel booked for the evening (fog @ Heathrow), Nanu at the front desk was able to secure a room for me. Room was very comfortable, nice big LCD TV's, and the breakfast buffet food tasted very good for a HIE. To be honest, was very surprised how nice this hotel was.

Like "Jon068",my wife and I were booked into this hotel for a Friday night stopover en-route to Highclere Castle (or Downton Abbey,in the TV series). It looks quite new,and is sited on a high quality business park with Winnersh rail station close by.We were allocated a room on the 3rd floor, but didn't realise you have to use your electronic room card/key when you select the floor in the lift, otherwise the card won't open your room door (learnt something new there!).Our room was very spacious, although a bit lacking in storage space for any lengthy stay. The bathroom was very clean and well appointed, all very upmarket & stylish. There were tags on the pillows informing us of the range available if we wished to change the ones provided, but the "firm-fibre" options we had were just perfect. As we had time to kill before dinner,we decided to try out the hotel pool - absolutely lovely & relaxing, but would strongly advise using swimming goggles,as our eyes started to sting after about 30 mins in the water - and so too are the small sauna's at the poolside. We didn't use the gym facility, but on looking in it seemed very well equipped with a variety of top fitness-inducing equipment. In the restaurant, the food was top-notch,both for our dinner and breakfast the following morning. Our only gripe was the bar tarriff - £4 for a pint of lifeless draught Becks,or £18 a bottle of wine - a little bit pricier than we're used to,but I guess they cater more to the Expense Account clientle (& it is near to London I suppose). We also found the staff to be very polite & helpfull, especially the young eastern european girl in the health spa reception & the asian fellow in the restaurant. Nice touch with the piano player in the bar area, but maybe that was just for the large group of teachers that were having their Christmas Party there that night ?

Stayed here for one night only en route to Highclere Castle with a Harry Shaw coach party. Once booked in my wife and I found our way easily to our room. Although it is worth a mention that the lifts here are like no others I have encountered, each ride proving an adventure not knowing which direction or floor you will be taken to next !!
The food in the Caprice Restaurant was a real treat as being part of a coach party we were invited to serve ourselves from the buffet. There was always a wide range available for all three courses at dinner and the same can be said for breakfast the food being prepared, cooked and presented to a very high standard. The piano music drifting in from the bar in the evening provided a really pleasant background.
Our room (225) was spacious, spotlessly clean and well maintained, all the usual accoutrements being present and I had a full nights deep and undisturbed sleep, add the courteous and helpful attitude of all the staff we spoke to I have no trouble recommending this hotel.

I got this on a last minute.com secret hotels deal although ultimately price difference wasn't that great for a standard room than booking directly. This hotel is very well put together, the rooms are large, very clean and their standard room would easily pass for an executive in some others. Love the bathrooms especially steam free mirror. Mix of soft and firm pillows labelled for your comfort, very comfortable beds. Staff were very courteous and helpful and room very quiet despite proximity to the motorway and the industrial estate around it. Didn't have breakfast but had a light bite in the bar which was very well prepared and presented by a very nice and helpful lady. Will def stay here again. Very Good value for money. Parking under hotel and was complimentary for staying guests. Very close to M4 so great location. Will look forward to using comprehensive spa facilities next time. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Hotel is well sound proofed so I thunk it will be quiet wherever you are. Not great views but nice a...

Spent one night here on a business trip to the TVP business park. Hotel was clean, pleasant and relatively modern. Don't expect anything too flash but the room was a decent size, comfortable bed, helpful staff and a pretty good breakfast. 2 minute walk to Winnersh train station and bus to TVP offices. 10 minute drive into central reading/reading train station.
