“Modern, nicely decorated hotel”
Reviewed 18 February 2014

Stayed here for one night over the Valentine's weekend.

The rooms are very modern and spacious, with an extremely comfortable bed. The hotel is located in the middle of an industrial estate, so it is extremely quiet at night. The bathroom is a bit on the small side, but the shower and bath are faultless.

The swimming pool is a decent size, and the steam room and sauna are adequate. Unfortunately, there is not a jacuzzi, but was still a pleasant spa experience. We had paid for the spa package so were entitled to a spa treatment. I had the full body massage, and my partner had the full body hot stone massage. 45 minute massage each, and can't really complain - I came out very relaxed. I used the gym a couple of times - a tad on the small side but had all the equipment you would need.

The dinner was extremely nice. Although we had to choose from the Valentine's set menu, the choices were still varied, and the food was still excellent! Very well presented and tasted great!

Breakfast was excellent! Full buffet with the traditional English breakfast, but a selection of fruits, cereals and croissants - enough to set you up for the day.

Would definitely recommend this hotel, whether its for a business trip or a weekend away.

A very comfortable hotel; rooms were stylish with all amenities you could want. Staff were particularly helpful, especially Ashwin and Leanne on reception where nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very good and would really set you up for the day. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed here for two nights and can't wait to stop by again!

We were looking for somewhere not too far from town but with a swimming pool. Hotel is beautiful and spacious, rooms are by far some of the best I've seen from a Holiday Inn and we stayed in the standard rooms.
Bathroom was small but beautiful, green lighting under the sink was a great touch. Next time we book I'll be taking a look at the executive rooms.

Bed was very comfortable and rooms were incredibly quiet. We didn't hear any other guests throughout the entire stay. Breakfast was great and traditional full buffet you expect from the Holiday Inn!

Internet was expensive, would be nice to get this thrown in it's 2k14 after all.

Pool and spa is to die for, dim lit pool is the ideal place to relax after a long day. Changing rooms are modern and have lovely large rain showers in them.

We will be visiting again!

We arrived at the hotel late in the evening and requested a quiet room. The receptionist obliged with a first floor room that overlooked the courtyard. The room was well equipped, clean and comfortable. There was no external noise and the room's temperature controls were effective. The bed was a 5ft (UK "king" sized double) and the selection of pillows offered made it easy to find a comfortable combination, as evidenced by the fact that we didn't wake until 9.40 the following morning. All in all, a pleasant overnight stay at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: The rooms that overlook the courtyard are quiet.

We booked the Valentines Spa Weekend package last minute, and so glad we did!

We were a bit snobbish about booking a Holiday Inn but were very surprised - felt more like a Hilton to be honest!

Most spa hotels go down the country house feel, but this was fresh, modern and inviting.

A ten minute drive or ten pound taxi journey to Reading town centre meant that it's peaceful business park location was ideal, and had a beautiful scenic view of the town.

Rooms were spacious, clean, modern and had everything you needed. Bathroom was exquisite and the bed was very comfortable.

The spa facilities were calming - sauna and steam room on the small side maybe and there wasn't a jacuzzi, but over all very relaxing.

The restuarant was large and wasn't your average hotel one! Dinner was superb, and breakfast had a large selection. Monty's bar had a large cocktail menu which was reasonably priced.

Friendly service and the ability to use the facilities after check out was excellent.

Stayed here for one night with partner! Quick check in and we even got upgraded to the KimberleySuite which was fantastic, very big and clean! Had champagne and chocolates in our room waiting when we got back from the pool! Had a three course dinner which was cooked to perfection and then went back to the pool for a late night swim as pool was quite busy in the day but that can be expected at the weekend! Breakfast the next morning was lovely and free car parking! Would definitely return again!

I understand this is a relatively new hotel; we had a one night stay whilst seeing an aged relative in a local hospital and taking the opportunity to catch up with friends in the area.
It was easy to find off the motorway, though the entrance to the car park can be obscured by coaches parking in a bay just before it. In addition the dip at the car park barriers meant an accumulation of rain water, affecting the pedestrian access to either the stairs or lift to reception. No sign of action being taken about this, nor an apology when we spoke of the difficulty of getting round the water on check in.
Check in was smooth though not clear enough to all about the (increasingly common need abroad but not in UK) to use key cards to travel up to the rooms. It took time for people to realise this leading to some folk being in the lift for longer than necessary.
The room was pleasant, though the window was not completely draught proof. So up went the heating; this will surely impact the energy bill.
Only one arm chair, and an office chair at the desk; it leaves couples with little option but to use the bed as a place to sit. The tea making shelf was OK, though the bin for tea bags etc was nowhere near. The allocation of tea and coffee sachets is stingy.
A late afternoon visit to the bar for a drink and a lite-bite was OK, even though the area lacked ambience. At this stage it was quiet but the service still felt slow and distracted.
Returning to the hotel later after visiting the hospital it was clear a large function was going on as well as a couple of coach parties had arrived. We went down to use the pool. The changing rooms have very small locker and dressing spaces, though other areas seemed to waste space. My partner found the ladies area had a an overflowing towel return bin, leafing to towels being left strewn across the small changing area. At poolside used glasses were left around; surely safety guidance should mean only plastic drink containers are used? It left a poor impression of the pool and spa area, though the pool is a reasonable size.
We then revisited the bar and just about found a seat. We found a bar team struggling to keep up; it wasn't clear if waiters took your order at the table; instead a queue formed at the bar several people deep. This was exacerbated by guests from the function who had to use the main bar for drinks. By now the senior bar team were struggling. The junior staff seemed more relaxed and willing to smile and interact, as well as offer an apology for the slow speed of service.
The function clearly involved music and although we were on the 3rd floor and the other side of the hotel, it was easy to hear the music. It made us feel it was a cheaply constructed building.
The bed was reasonably comfortable, though the mattress was not quite Premier Inn standard. The team managing breakfast were smiling and efficient; the coffee was good and the food choice reasonable.
At check out we had to ask for a breakdown of the extras; the clerk was going to tell us the final sum without checking these first.
Overall our impression is of a weekday business orientated hotel that struggles to meet the leisure market demands. Most junior waiting staff were cheerful, engaging and smiling. Senior bar staff and the expertise at reception were lacking and in need of perking up. It is convenient for the Thames valley area; I'm not likely to rush back to this hotel though.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your very lengthy review following your recent stay which has been shared with the team.

As you will no doubt be aware your visit coincided with the wettest weekend on record in the United Kingdom . As a result of the excessive rain levels, the drainage system that normally flows in to the Loddon River had nowhere to go after being shut by the local authority. This caused some of the rainwater to back in to small section of the car park and as you will appreciate this was not something a receptionist had any control over.

I am pleased you found the location of the hotel convenient and the check in process and quality of the room to your satisfaction. Kindly note that being a new construction there are certainly no draughts in the room but rather your trickle vent above the window was open. If you had notified reception they would have been happy to show you how to close this.

We also thank you for your recognition of the efforts of our team.

Regards
