We are so glad we decided to take the factory tour, during our stay in Devon.
The tour is well laid out and standing on the viewing gallery, watching the glass being blown and then going through the different processes, was really interesting.
We also visited the on-site shop and were impressed with the discounts available.

Booked 2 adult tickets online just before visiting, midweek in September. Factory experience, where you see up fairly close the men making the glasswork, has 2 hour time slots during the day. We arrived half hour before the morning shift finished so went straight through to see that - very interesting and amazing to see how fast these master crafters can make the glassware. We then booked the high tea in the Pavilion Café - just paid the extra to make up to the offer they had on (2 adults factory experience and high tea for £25 - turned out to be great value). Spent time in the visitors centre learning about the history of glass making, then had a fabulous high tea, then went through to factory experience again to see the afternoon commissioned work -Tiffanys of New York. Into the shop where we spent some considerable time choosing glasses and presents, then another quick tour of the glass making to see if they were making anything different. We ended up spending over 4 hours here and enjoyed it more than we thought we would, so we have no hesitation in recommending a visit. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful also.

We were in the area and decided to take the opportunity to visit the Darlington Glass production facility.
It is possible to visit the timeline museum free but we decided to pay to make the tour of works.
This gives you the chance to watch the glass blowing and shaping process which is an incredible experience, showing the skill of the craftsmen producing various Darlington products.

After the visit we visited the works shop and purchased various drinking glasses which we shall appreciate far more having witnessed the process.

10 years before those guys are let loose on the factory floor. All hand-made. The heat they work with is amazing. It’s as much as you can take from the viewing gallery in ten minutes! Inspiring craftsmanship. A must-see in this automated, cosseted age.

Just completed the tour of Dartington Crystal in the expert hands of Ellie. We have a friend who needed to visit the factory for work and we took a tour while she was busy. We met the master engraver and Ellie took us through the manufacturing process of our favourite glasses in huge detail. Highly recommended and many thanks to Ellie.
