“Stunning place, absolutely fab for kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

As I write this review, I'm very sad to be leaving tomorrow. Me and my 2 children stayed here for a week- 3 year old and 2 year old. What a gem! I'm so glad I booked this. The cottage is absolutely stunning, very well equipped- you really don't need to bring anything apart from your food shopping! (Little things like foil, washing up liquid etc is all here!) the grounds are very well kept and eye catching. The play barn, WOW! 2 floors of it! My kids asked to go there everyday (you would think they were deprived of toys!), it has a variety of toys, upstairs is more for babies- soft play. Downstairs you have role play area and other toys. Both floors have a sofa where you can really sit back and relax whilst kids play. If you a coffee lover, there is a machine upstairs! Help yourself :). Outside there is a play area, again kids loved this and the freedom to just run around. There is also a trampoline. Animal feeding is great fun, even though my 2 year old was terrified of lambs by the last day he finally managed to hold the bottle and stroke the lamb! What an achievement! Farmer Simon- he really is such a great welcoming/ jolly character, fantastic with kids, really makes the stay that bit more especial - he remembers everyone's names!! We had a few days out, but I would of been happy just to relax in the farm. I enjoyed Instow beach, lovely sandy beach with the village in the background. I definately recommend this place! Can't wait to come back..

This is a real gem and we just returned from a long weekend stay there with our 16-month-old daughter. The hosts were so accommodating and welcoming. The cottage we had (Willow), was spacious and beautifully decorated with good WiFi connection, fully equipped kitchen. We found fresh scones on arrival and milk in the fridge, both a nice surprise after the 6hrs bank holiday traffic drive from London. There was also a toddler bed, walk-in shower in addition to the Jacuzzi bath, the warmest douvet. The purpose-build playground with sing, slides, 'farm shop' etc was very amusing to our daughter but the best part were the farm animals. Simon, our host, involved the kids staying on the farm in feeding the animals. It was so much fun for adults and babies alike! Also nearby is Rosemoor Garden - strongly recommended. The only 'down' side (perhaps a welcome break for most) was that there was no mobile phone signal but WiFi was an option.
We will certainly be back.

Room Tip: I'm sure all cottages are lovely

We stayed here last week (April 21st-25th) in Bramble Cottage. I was sad to leave as my family had a wonderful time. I have a 6 year old son and 3 year daughter who loved the cottage, playbarn and of course feeding the animals! My daughter gained more confidence during the week. Farmer Simon is a star and the children loved feeding the animals with him. The cottage has central heating, a stairgate, a bed guard, childrens cutlery, a dishwasher, washing machine- everything you could need with young children. We visted Instow and Westward Ho beaches, had fun at Quince Honey Farm and Atlantis Adventure Park and ate at lots of lovely restaurants. If you book here you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: I'm sure all the cottages are brilliant. We stayed in Bramble Cottage and loved it.

We spent 4 nights here in March, with our two children, aged 4 years and 19 months. We had a wonderful time. The cottage was well decorated and furnished, the kitchen particularly wasn't lacking anything. The children loved the morning feeding sessions with Farmer Simon, and by the end of the stay had become a lot more comfortable around the animals and were really keen to join in. The playground and playbarn were both well equipped and gave both our kids a chance to enjoy themselves when they weren't feeding the farm animals.

Birchill is handy for the Devon coast and we were able to get in some good day trips, despite typically variable British March weather. The owner's recommendations for places to visit and eat out were all good and helped us to make the most of the trip.

All in all, a great place for a young family, thoroughly recommended and somewhere I can see us coming back again.

Rarely have we been so sad at the end of a holiday... Our week at Birchill Farm flew by way too quickly. The accomodation and setting was delightful, but the highlight was Farmer Simon and the daily animal feeding. Our 17 month old was entranced and transformed from a tottering just-walker to a confident farmer by the end of our stay. And after animal feeding, there was so much to do in the local area. We had many beach days - on the epic sands of Sandy Mouth, Croyde and Saunton - coastal walks, pub lunches... It's a perfect UK holiday for a young family.

Top tips - remember your wellies, waterproofs (just in case), bucket and spade, and a child rucksack if you have one - it's too rural for buggies. And if you head over to Croyde Bay, check out the Rock Inn in Georgeham.

Another fabulous week spent at Birchill Farm. Our mini Farmers have had the best time, so thanks again Farmer Simon for making it so much fun for them. We previously stayed in Willow cottage, but had to opt for the larger Hazel cottage this time with our now larger family. It is simply stunning and what a great idea to have toy boxes in each cottage, as well as the superb play barn. It is the attention to detail that makes Birchill Farm such a special place for little ones and their families. Well done Simon and Margaret for all your hard work. This is an absolute gem of a place if you are looking for a peaceful retreat, with plenty to keep little people happy in all weathers.

We stayed in Elderberry cottage with our 1 year old over a sunny weekend in early March. We had a super time and we would strongly recommend others to stay there. We will definitely be going back.

The cottage itself was immaculate, very comfortable and tastefully and luxuriously furnished - fabulous big bath, big fluffy towels, underfloor heating, a sumptuous bed. The outside areas were very well kept and the whole place has a lovely welcoming feel.

We all enjoyed the morning animal feeding, farmer Simon is brilliant with the kids and the play barn and playground will keep children of all ages entertained.

Great holiday! Do go if you can.
