“A peaceful weekend away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

My husband surprised me with a lovely weekend away in Norfolk and I was very pleased that he booked such a lovely B&B. The grounds of the Old Rectory are beautiful and it was a pleasure to be welcomed with a pot of tea and a piece of cake in the drawing room after a long drive. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was lovely, although there was no door between the bathroom/loo and the bedroom so if I hadn't have been with my husband I may have felt a little exposed.

If we are in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

The room was stunning, as was the ensuite. Unusually the bathroom had a bath which was a real luxury. The room & bathroom were spotless and the hostess was welcoming and extremely helpful in telling us what to do in the local area. The surrounds were beautiful and it's only a 5 minute walk to Oxborough Hall (a national trust property) and the local pub, the Bedingfield Arms. Highly recommended as a weekend away destination.

Particularly good points:
• The welcome by Kathy and showing us tour well appointed rooms without any fuss or delay. My wife and I had the 4 poster bed room in the annex, including the integral en-suite.
• Superb breakfasts including grape nuts, cereals and orange juice, cooked breakfasts and copious amounts of coffee and toast.
• Referral to the pub.
• The swimming pool – though I didn’t use it.
• The high level of the seat on the loo in the main house!
Some very minor issues which did not affect our opinion of The Old Rectory.
• The hot chocolate flavoured drink sachet wasn’t up the high standard of catering.
• Condensation in our room because of only one window being capable of opening.
• Limited Wi-Fi access in the annex (but apart from me who’d want to used it?)

Room Tip: We syaed in the Four poster bedded room. Enjoy wlaking around the grounds.

Stayed here on Saturday night. Lovely property and great welcome. We arrived late and were shown round and provided with a welcomed cup of tea and offered cakes. Our evening meal was also sorted out for us at a local pub, the Berney Arms (which I can also recommend!). We stayed in the Courtenay Room which was a lovely big room with equally impressive en Suite. Would definitely come back

We arrived on a Friday night after a weary trip and were greeted by the nicest people you could wish for. The rooms were all prepared with a real welcome feeling. The pool is set in lovely gardens overlooking the meadows and the view at the back of the house is from a picture book.

All in all we were well looked after and whatever we asked was no trouble for the lady of the house or the other staff!

Flowers from the gardens adorned the place and we were made very welcome especially at breakfast.

We will return again without fail as there is so much to see locally and within 20 miles

Room Tip: Its quiet everywhere in the rooms and in the house

From the beginning we felt relaxed and at home. We were welcomed with tea and cake in Veronica's garden which we could happily sit in for hours over looking gorgeous fields. My husband and I were looking for a B&B in a wonderful location, clean and dog friendly and The Old Rectory far surpassed our expectations and ticked all our criteria.
The room was gorgeous and immaculate. We had feared that dog friendly meant that cleanliness would be overlooked however the rooms were amazingly clean and wonderfully presented. The house is close to the town with a wonderful pub that serves great food. It is close to National Trust Halls and wonderful gardens. It is a great place to unwind, relax and simply enjoy the surroundings. We definitely recommend it and look forward to going again!

On arrival, we were shown to our room, the Courtenay, which was beautiful There was a large bowl of cream and yellow roses together with Norfolk lavender in the bedroom and a posy of flowers in the spacious bathroom. Veronica, our charming hostess, served us tea and cake in her idyllic garden. The house is in such a tranquil setting that we spent most of our time reading in the shade of the rose pergolas and swimming in the pool, the first time we have smelt roses while swimming. The Old Rectory is a happy family home and Veronica and her daughters helped us to feel relaxed and very much at home. Breakfast was served in the conservatory which looks out over the garden. We are looking forward to our next visit.
