“Total disappointment!”
Reviewed 4 May 2010

Photos on the website look lovely - but bad experience.

The nice castle on the pics: was closed since out of season.
The connection between new building and castle park: closed due to construction works for the wellness centre.
Hence, the wellness centre: being constructed.
The new next-to-castle building which houses most of the hotel rooms: no athmosphere, too new, too cold.
The surroundings: a construction area.
The cool cocktailbar: no waiter, no guests..
The restaurant: clever photoographing work again since looks lovely on the pics, in reality it was not at all as romantic and classical, bit tacky
The food: BAD!
No taste, no imagination of service, just plain boring food, with no interest just thrown on a plate. With a waiting rushing to hurry us through our menu so he could leave.
The service: we had a nice prosecco at diner, wanted another bottle to 'enjoy' in the empty bar - but according to the waiter he had this particular one no longer in stock. DId have another and better one though. He did not know the price (duh) but sort of the same as the other... he said. So we took 1 bottle, plus another bottle served by the reception night boy. Who díd know the price: 45 euro per bottle whereas the first one was 22 euro....

We chose to stay at Castello Dal Pozzo, away from the hurley burley, even though the ostensible reason for our visit was a trip to La Scala. Excellent motorways make it a quick and easy trip into the centre of Milan.

The setting is absolutely glorious, with excellent views of the Lake and plenty of grounds to ramble in before or after lunch. The food was divine; we had a variety of small bits of heaven, rather than one large meal. Since Castello Dal Pozzo is Neo Gothic and decorated in the Art & Crafts style, the bedrooms were lavishly appointed in keeping with that style, comfortable and yet had all mod cons, most of them cunningly hidden.

The service was good and friendly. It was a bit like staying in a lush b+b

Couldn't fault it really. Highly recommended.

ps, most of the staff speak english. ! I turns out that the owners live in another part of the castle - and the wife is British!
