We wanted to visit one of the smaller, family-run businesses instead of the huge places where tourists arrive by the busload, and we hit the nail on the head with the Caves du Pere Auguste. The host was proud to discuss each of the wines we tasted, and we were treated to a tour of the storage caves and old wine-press equipment. It was a pleasant, non-hurried, no-pressure experience.

Very friendly family run business, we had the opportunity to taste all the wines in the cave, Rose and whites were outstanding, and all for less than €4 per bottle.

We first experienced the lovely wines from the Caves de Pere Auguste ten years ago and were lucky enough to visit again this year. It was early on a Saturday morning and we were welcomed into the cave and offered a number of wines to try. There was no pressure to buy anything and it was a big improvement on some of the bigger places we have been to where you can be made to feel as though you should be grateful to be allowed in. If you don't speak any French it may be wise to take a phrase book. All in all, well worth a visit to this friendly family -run vineyard.( my personal favourites are the Sauvignon and the Tradition. ) Don't miss it if you are in the area.
