We arrived at 12.45 and spent the next 45 minutes being engaged by the delight of the birds and the obvious passion of the various staff who happily approached the boys to talk to them about the wide variety of birds at the centre and encouraged the boys to ask questions and learn more.

As the centre was quiet at the time the boys were delighted to get the opportunity to stroke a couple of the birds - their favourite being Tilly the Owl who was so friendly.

The flying demonstrations were fabulous and Ray and Glen made a real effort to involve everyone and provided a lot of useful information whilst still pitching it at a fun level.

The boys loved it as did we and their requests of "When can we go back?" are not likely to meet with any resistance.

The adjacent on site facilities including the restaurant etc. made it a great afternoon for us all and rewarded the trip there.

What a wonderful hidden gem!

We popped in for a short visit on our way home to Scotland and so glad we did.

Its a relatively quiet place ... or at least it was when we were there but that makes it sooooo much better as all the staff are so happy to talk and let you see the amazing birds up close!

The small owls are just lovely and this place would be worth the trip to see them alone!

I booked my three grandsons into the three hour course and being aged 11-16 they normally get bored very quickly but not here. Ray and his saff are so helpfull and really make the guests feel relaxed and the information is given in a manner in which the children can take it on board. They get full instruction on all the species and then learn how to weigh and feed the birds. Then the fun bit really fun bit comes when the children get to fly the birds from Eagle Owls to Harris Hawks.
This is not only a venue only for children i also enjoy the information and seeing these fantastic birds which are kept in the highest standards possible by these experts.

Thanks agian Ray and satff Kevin.

We found the bird centre by accident but are so glad we did. They are so many different types of birds and other animals to see. Its set in a beautiful place called Leaplish waterside park, right on the edge of Kielder resivour( cant spell!) We managed to catch both displays in which we got to have birds land on our hands.. it was amazing. Never before have i got to get so close to such amazing things. Mandy the Marabou Stork was my favorite although I loved them all. And to see a theie White tailed Sea Eagle fly free was simply breath taking. Its a very informal place, in which we were made to feel very welcome. A brilliant day to learn and have great fun at the same time. Will definatly visit again soon.

The centre may not look like much from the outside but please take the plunge and go inside. We spent hours enthralled by the dozens of beautiful birds and animals, by the flying demonstrations and the patient and hilarious talks by Ray who owns and runs the place. I have never seen so many owls outside of a Harry Potter film. The audience really get to participate in the flying demonstrations and there are 2 or 3 a day with different groups of birds so worth hanging around for the next one.
There are many little birds and animlas that you can touch and adore (owls again) and plenty big impressive ones too - bald eagle, griffon vulture, golden eagle along with many kinds of hawk, kite and falcon.
There are some oddities like pelicans, a kookaburra, wallabies and fallow deer who all add to the atmosphere of the place.
The centre also offer courses in falconry and bird management - I am very tempted I must say. It's a marvellous thing to see the bond between man and bird.
