“A TRUE GEM !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

This is an out of the way stop for many tourist and I'm hesitant to post too much for fear of spreading the word... but I must.

If you are ever in jaipur and want an out of this world "Raj" experience, this is the place to go.... you drive only 45 minutes outside of Jaipur..... the road is great, and then you turn onto the road to Samode.... and you drive into the distant past... Samode has an amazing history ... something you have to discover yourself.... but I can guarantee you will wish you could stay a month in this place....

A weekend in Samode is paradise....

The staff of Samode ---- too good and too accommodating ... your comfort and privacy is their utmost concern and it's evident.....

There are also two swimming pool options at Samode .... both amazing...

The Spa is a must ...

What can I say ... I know many people travel to Rajasthan and they visit the common destinations, but this is a hidden gem located less than an hour away ... it's definitely worth the efforts ....
As I said, I'm fairly confident you will wish you had booked an additional day, once you discover this treasure ....

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the very back, near the "modern" pool, or else the very front suite...

The Samode Palace Hotel is about 40 kilometres, or a one hour’s drive from Jaipur. It is truly worth the road trip on back roads to get there. After weaving through the cobblestone streets of the local village of Samode you are greeted on arrival with a beautiful palace vista – private courtyards, surrounding mountain panoramas, and friendly staff.

After having a cool refreshing drink in the Parisian-like courtyard we were escorted to magnificent rooms, all individually decorated and well maintained. Each room has its own character feeling more like a home than a hotel room.

The staff are enthusiastic, attentive, and have a genuine pride of the hotel and its history. They make you feel very welcome and take a keen interest in finding out about you and what would make your stay more enjoyable.

We ate at the restaurant on both nights of our two-day stay and the meals were superb – the variety and quality of the cuisine was undoubtedly Michelin-star material!

Laundry services are available and are prices (drinks and meals) were very reasonable although, like elsewhere in India, wine is expensive.

While we at the Palace in the off-season (and perhaps were provided with more personalised service than in the peak season) you felt like you were in a palace and the staff ensured that you were treated like royalty.

A hotel, beautifully situated amongst the hills almost like an oasis and which is still used, apparently, as a palace. Lovely rooms almost a suite with plenty of space. We were given a complimentary tour of the palace by one of the staff to see the wonderful architecture and decorations in the more private areas of the hotel. The hotel boasts two pools, one beside the hotel and a roof top pool over a newer extension. Although not a problem for us, some visitors might find the number of steps you have to navigate around the building rather challenging Even down to the dining room you had to descend a good number of steps. There may well have been a lift but we did not see one either in the original section or the newer extension
The restaurant service was good but not the best we have received as we toured. Their breakfast buffet was extremely nice with a wide choice of India and western style food. Generally the service from the staff was good and we found the staff very helpful.
Samode itself is a delightful little village and we found the local people warm and welcomimg.
The hotel is well worth a visit

For the four of us this was the last full day of our holiday in India and we had great expectations of the Samode Palace Hotel. We had booked a table for lunch.
This place is stunning, like an oasis in a desert. Just beautiful. Takes your breath away.
After a tour of the hotel we arrived at the dining room; there was one other table occupied.
The red overlay on the white tablecloth was stained in several places. Even the All Inclusives in the Dom Rep change the linen between diners.
We placed our order but the service was very inattentive. Our water bottle was removed and we had to call the waiter back to request another, when we could attract his attention.
We ordered one cold starter and three hot. The cold starter arrived way before the others (why? it's cold!) so that by the time they turned up, my friend had almost finished her main course.
At least she got a main! The side orders arrived plus two mains. No sign of mine. It was only when the waiter realised that I was not eating, that he came across and asked if everything was OK. Quick panic to get my main cooked. My husband wanted a chicken curry. He was sold heavily the mutton curry (fresh in today, very tasty, can recommend) so he succumbed. Like a lot of meat in the Golden Triangle area of India it was tough and tasteless.
Popped to the washroom after. Absolutely no water at all coming from the hot tap.
What we should have done was have a club sandwich and a coffee to get our R1000 back and had dinner at our own hotel.
Don't get me wrong. None of this would have bothered me at all in any other venue (life's too short) but this is one of the best hotels in India. The service in India has been so attentive, almost too attentive at times, so this was a shock.
I can only assume that it was 'off season' - mid-May and they had minimal staff on. It does beggar the question' what happens if they get an unexpected rush on.
But the afternoon was redeemed by our driver getting a guide to show us around the village - so interesting. Real India.

This hotel is beyond description. It is grand in every sense of the word. The rooms are big and beautiful. The pools are amazing. The history pours out of the walls in this incredible place. It is calm and majestic and Samode was my favorite little town. Walking up the steps to the old fort and down into town, meeting locals, craftsmen and many animals going about their business. It touches your soul and calls you to return.
