The Nahar Retreat & Spa - an excellent getaway!

While we didn't actually stay at Nahar, we didn't have to. We chanced upon the hotel while looking for a place to eat at Kotagiri, and we were hooked!

The food served at their restaurant 'Prana' is affordable, hygienic, freshly cooked and simply delicious. Its better than the fare dished out in most big-city hotels, and completely in a different league for a small place like Kotagiri. Their idlis & dosas melt in your mouth, the North Indian food & soups were delicious, and the tea...although a tad expensive...is quite simply the best I've had so far. At one point we felt their garlic fried rice was undercooked, and after a few attempts at rectifying it they replaced the entire dish without the slightest complaint.

We asked to see the rooms, and although expensive at Rs. 5000 + taxes a room, they're luxurious and well-maintained. The balconies all look out onto the lawn and we especially loved the spacious & modern bathroom :) Their spa is a franchisee of the Kairali brand of spas, but we didn't get to see or experience the spa facilities.

The staff, from the old gardener to the waiters to the chef, are very courteous and friendly, and the hotel manager Babu went out of his way to make us feel at home even though we weren't in-house guests. Suffice to stay we spent most of our 1.5 day stay in Kotagiri out on their lawn, sipping heavenly tea, eating tasty food and looking out at the marvelous view beyond. It was as homely as it gets in a star hotel.

My honest opinion is that, if its within your budget, you will love staying at the Nahar retreat...but beware, you might just be tempted to kidnap their chef :)

I stayed in nahar retreat after reading the trip advisor reviews. It is in the middle of small houses. The location is not great. The place is run with very few guest, so they try to make money from the few guests. For 5000 rs a day they don't give a complimentary breakfast also. There are a lot of estate houses available for much less price and better location.

It's really a value for money on your leasure trip to OOty. It's 27KM from Ooty city and located in a place behind hills where u can enjoy the tea estate. Stay in a British Bangalows, where you can enjoy the indoor games like snooker, table tennis, chess, carrom etc., and beautiful lawn in front of your rooms .........is nice launge for the evening drink.

Staff is very nice and speak good english, tamil and Kannada!
Food is very nice, but only thing is kitchen closes by 10.30 in the night ......which not good for partying.

Room Tip: Please go together with 2-3 families and kids to enjoy...........
