“Views from the Inspection Bunglow”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

We nearly got the 360 degrees view of the valley from its lawns. We walked from the Mukteshwar Dham. However, the clear view to the snow peaked mountains eluded us as it was cloudily. Highly recommended to visit for its view of the valley.

“Visual Delight”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

Close your eyes and imagine that you have almost magically become a bird. What would you want to see? Now slowly let some light hit your retina and if you are on the ledge facing Almora on the courtyard of Mukteswar inspection bungalow, you are looking at one of the best sights God's green earth has to offer. Spend some time flying among all the colors that the clouds playing hide and seek with the vales and peaks till as far as your eyes can see have to offer. And now, if you have absorbed the sights and absolute stillness to your fill, come back to a resemblance of sense and recollect where you are. TRH Mukteswar is right behind you and Nanda Devi right ahead. Greenery and damp, musky aroma of pines, poplars and rhododendrons all around. There is a walking track that will get you to Almora after about half a days walk off the ledge. Its about 10 kms as the crow flies but 45 odd kms if you take the state highway via Ramgarh and Bhowali. If Corbett hasnt scared you enough with his tales of the man eaters, I suggest risk it. You will have a story worth narrating to your grandchildren. That is if you dont become brunch to Corbett's maneaters. No? Then just stand there and fly...close your eyes and breathe deep. That sensation will provide succor every time you breath the diesel fumes in the city. The inspection bungalow is a sensory delight. In every way possible. Best time to visit for me is during the rains when you can actually touch the clouds and walk through the mist on the narrow road leading upto IVRI Mukteswar. Or winters if you want to brave the snow and frozen pipe lines. TRH Ramgarh is a good place to stay as it is located strategically almost midway between Mukteswar and Bhowali. The staff ir very helpful, quite like the staff at most TRH rest houses. Nainital is not far off from here. Neither is Binsar. Private transport is a useful pleasure multiplier. Not having it is not a unmitigated handicap as local cabs can be hired at ease. Rates are reasonable, bargaining a necessity. Overall, a big thumbs up! Just go..
