“A vanishing Tuwa culture”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2011

The arrival of technology and bus load of tourists had a remarkable changes to this once secluded outback.Women were on their blue jean and men with the latest Iphone.Kids were busily fiddling with the latest electronic gadget..Life at this part of the world could be very tough.Even at September the night temperature could dip below 20 degree C and the day time temperature was dry and hot.The winter temperature is the dreadful minus thirty or sometime forties.
I managed to visit a Tuwa family .One family member tried to "sing" a high pitch haunting sound. As they were the descendant of Mongolian,I requested them to perform the Mongolian 长调 and I was politely turn down.Reason : they don't know.
We sampled their cheese with a bitterly flavour. and also participated in their interesting dance.Mind you,it was very difficult to make a decent sound with their short "flute".
With a better living standard,I believe it is a matter of time the whole village will become a theme park.

“Tourist trap, Doesn't worth the trip”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2011

It took an hour on a very winding road by bus from Jiadengyu Forest Park (Hongfu Kanas Lake Resort) to the bus station (where you need to change to their bus). From there it is another hour on a narrow road with lots of tourist buses where you will find yourselves in a fairly new Tuva type house (wooden block house not to be confused with Kazakh's yurt). There were a lot of buses, a lot of houses were turned to shophouse for souvenir, foodhouse, accommodation. There were hundreds of tourists walking on the streets.

If you like trekking, alternatively, you can hire a guide to walk from Kanas to Hemu (or ride horse). This might be a better compromise.
