Go to the museum and ask for the keys to the castle. The castle is usually locked up but you can get the keys from the adjacent museum. It's interesting to read about the history of the castle.

After stopping by Dover Castle a few days before, we had a bit higher expectations for teh castle. What is left is basically a ruin - no roof or intermediate floors, and not much refurbishment. Entry tot he castel is free, and drive from Lerwick to Scalloway is scenic, so if you can catch a taxi to take you there for a reasonable price, go ahead.

The local bus makes several trips over here, from Lerwick, for the small sum of 2 pound. There isn't a lot of the small castle to see, but the scenery is good, and combined, they make a good outing. You might even see a Shetland pony or two. The little town of Scalloway is nice too with a few shops, and not touristy.

Only worth visiting if you're already there! Best part was our guide jumping out of van to "get the key." That's a sentence you don't alway get!!!

Scalloway castle is in the village of Scalloway and next to Scalloway museum. The building is a hollow shell, with not much to see.

It is interesting, but it won't keep most visitors occupied for more than a few minutes.
