“Paradise found”
Reviewed 2 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Our first trip to St Lucia, and boy, did we fall on our feet. Collected at the airport by Tony, as we drove up to the tree house we couldn’t believe our eyes. It is an amazing building. It looks fabulous, but, more importantly, the tree house is a wonderful place to spend time.

Preparing breakfast in the lovely open kitchen while watching tropical birds visit the feeder. Reading on the sofa with the sound of the wind in the palms. Cooling off in the plunge pool while a hummingbird hovers, just inches above your head. Sipping rum on the sundeck as the sun sets and the stars appear. Life in the Tree House is very special indeed.

As for practicalities and creature comforts. The bed is HUGE and very comfortable. The windows in the bedroom are placed to ensure a nice breeze passes through. If you choose to shut the windows and use the air conditioning the room is quiet, it must be well insulated, so even once you switch off the air con it stays cool for a good while. The shower is warm and powerful and plenty of nice towels are provided. I seriously can’t think of anything that I would change.

I could have stayed in the Tree House forever, but there is a lovely beach just in front of you, and a whole island to explore – you can hire a car from Tony and Jan – everything is made so easy for you when you are their guests.

Laborie is an incredibly friendly place with few tourists and lots of warm smiles. However the best bit about it is having Jan and Tony as neighbours, what a lovely couple. We’ll be back for sure.

“The Perfect Place to Stay”

The Tree House is truly stunning and the most perfect place to relax and unwind. Jan and Tony, the most hospitable of hosts have constructed not just an idyllic holiday home but a unique amazing experience.
Two separate living areas connected by a solid walkway or bridge, the tree house has been built amongst trees on three sides and with an elevated fabulous view to the front of swaying palms, the sandy beach and the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea just a matter of yards away.
All rooms have been furnished to the highest standard and are very spacious. The living area and kitchen are open and benefit from natural cooling breezes. The kitchen is equipped with all mod cons, most notably an in - built microwave oven and grill great and not to forget a toaster; something lacking in many self catering rentals but essential for that perfect breakfast of tropical fruits followed by toast and guava jam. Nothing has been overlooked and if you get a little hot over the stove cooking your evening meal ( our favorite was fresh snapper and trigger fish acquired and filleted for us by one of the locals, Lincoln) you can always immerse yourself briefly in the plunge pool or chill awhile longer.
The bedroom benefits from air conditioning and quite possibly has the largest bed I have ever slept on.The bathroom too is a good sized room with beautiful modern decor and sanitary ware and a large walk in shower.
At the front of the living area is a sundeck with loungers and umbrella and for us this came into its own at dusk. After a day spent on the beach nothing could be more relaxing than just laying back with a cold beer straight from the fridge and watching the evening sky fill with bats emerging froom roosts and flying off to feed, replaced by the darkness of the night sky and the twinkling of a thousand stars.
The Tree House is a paraduse for bird lovers; its close proximity to the trees can provide for hours of bird watching. During our two week stay we saw 25 different species, ghe highlight being the wondrous, mesmerising hummingbirds, all 3 endemic species of which became regular visitors to the feeder hanging under tge eave of the roof, just a couple of feet away from where we would sit enthralled and spellbound.
This was our second visit to St Lucia and in total we have spent 6 weeks on the island, visiting all parts and staying in the north and south; without any doubt Laborie is by far and above the place to stay. Off the tourist trail, it offers all the charm and character of a vibrant fishing village and community, it has a beautiful beach , calm waters and safe swimming, all the amenities you need for daily life;and although lacking a cashpoint, this is within easy reacn in a large out of town supermarket just 10 minutes away by bus or hirecar.Laborie is a must for anyone visiting St.Lucia and the Tree House the perfectplace to stay.

“Paradise ~ Idyllic beauty, tranquility and the best of everything the island has to offer!”

I have just returned from what was hands-down my most beautiful and relaxing vacation ever. The southern end of St. Lucia, beautiful Caribbean beaches, steady calming breezes, local island charm and two of the nicest most accommodating hosts I have ever met. And that doesn’t begin to describe how lucky I was to be able to stay in what can only be described as sheer fantasy turned reality. The Tree House! It’s not just the visual scene, which seems to have touched the imagination of everyone who sees it, it’s the experience. The bedroom, bath and huge open living-lounging area (with private dipping pool, stove, fridge, sink, etc.) are so beautifully designed and built. Local woods, hand crafted furniture and fixtures and the feel of … well, luxury in an island tree house.
The best part for me was the evenings. After the sun goes down, you have your own tropical perch. The sound of the waves on the beach (probably 50 yards away), the wind through the palms and the stars; that was heaven. Lulled me to sleep every night. By sheer accident I was there for a full moon. If you can schedule for that, I would!
If that peacefulness and calm is a little too much at first or if you get a little too much sun on one of the beautiful beaches, the bedroom windows can be closed and the air conditioner can be turned on. I didn’t need it and preferred the nighttime breezes.
As for location, I don’t think it could be any better. I’ve been to the Bahamas, St. John, Tortola and Bermuda, but St. Lucia is the most beautiful. Rain forest, waterfalls, volcano, beaches, mountains, local charm; it has it all. Laborie is on the quieter end of the island and it offers easier access to its best locations. The amazing Pitons, sulfur springs, Botanical Gardens, Tet Paul Nature Trail and waterfalls. Did I mention the beaches? If you want to drive and enjoy crowds, excessive prices and less-than-courteous employees and staff, there are some okay places in the north. For me, the sites, food and people in the south are more genuine, enjoyable and laid back.
So, by way of recommendations, I would say that the tree house and its hosts are the best you could find anywhere! Tony and Jan, the owners and hosts, will pick you up and drop you off at the airport, plus they have a nice car available for rental, so you can get yourself around the island on your own. If you are unable to book the tree house for your trip, go for the other two accommodations they have to offer. Driftwood is a beautiful island-style bungalow, with everything you would need or want. And Mango Splash is a wonderful private apartment, also with everything you will need, with its own access to the beach; just feet away.
