“Everything you need”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Rates "5" for everything. This is our second stay and both times were perfect. Great location. Houses have everything you could need - including renting BBQ or bicycles etc as and when needed. All that's missing is a toaster (for the few times you got carried away and "bought too many Semmelbrötchen at the bakery yesterday and they're not as fresh". )

We travelled with 2 small daughters and parents-in-law. As we did not want to compromise on space, we had to compromise on price.
The chalet was basic equipment, clean, spacey and functional. It provided separate outdoor room for skis, living room with kitchen (could be bigger) and 3 bedrooms. Two bathrooms, one of them with rather small sauna.
The chalet was located in Sandling part, which is top choice for families with small kids who want to use skiing school, which was just 50m walking distance. Also the access to ski lifts operating Sandling and Loser slopes was perfect. The resort itself is rather small, but - not sure if because of the season - was not full of skiers and provided great condition for skiing, at least for average skiers and kids. The are also cross-country routes accessible from the chalet.
There were like 4 restaurants nearby. The nearest shopping was 6kms away in Altausee or Bad Aussee.
Trip to UNESCO site Hallstatt is recommended.

Room Tip: Sandling part of the resort due to the access to skiing school/rental.

We celebrated our wedding in Altaussee in June 2012 and had about 100 friends and family members staying in various Hagan Lodge chalets. Most of our friends have one or two small children (babies and toddlers mostly) who stayed in their rooms, which is why we're putting this review in the "family" section offered by tripadvisor. (Unfortunately you can only pick one option.)

LOCATION & SURROUNDINGS: EXCELLENT
The location is fantastic - lots of opportunities for outdoors activities. The area around Loser and Altaussee is just marvellous: bring good shoes for a hike! You can rent bikes or go climbing in the area, or just go for a walk through the quaint little village. There is also a high ropes course close to the Hagan Lodge village (www.omunduntn.at - very, very friendly staff and great fun!!), and the ski slopes in winter of course.

ROOMS/ CHALETS: VERY GOOD
Overall impression: very cosy and comfortable. Not a five-*-resort, of course, but a sweet kitchen with everything you need for a week in the mountains, cosy bedrooms with comfy mattresses and duvets, crisp linen and towels, a nice sauna in most chale

* There are various chalet types with two, three or four double rooms. You can download the floor plan of each chalet type from their website. Each double room has room that also fits a crib... and the double beds are wide, i.e. a family of four with two little children fits okay, but if you're planning to stay for a whole week you might find it cramped.

* There is a big sofa in the living room which sleeps two people (children?) - since this is a room everyone walks through, however, it's okay for families or very close friends, but a bit inconvenient for people who don't know each other that well or a creatures of comfort.

* Each hut has two floors: a big living room with a cosy seating area, entrance hall and an integrated kitchen (stove without oven, however!!; fridge with integrated freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, coffee perculator, kettle, etc.), two bathrooms and separate toilets, a balcony and terrace, TV, W-Lan, and landline phone, a sauna, and a storage room for bikes, prams, etc.

* you can get a "children's package" for 15 Euros: crib, staircase barrier, highchair, etc.

* each chalet has a big kitchen - ideal for making your own breakfast or lunch. The nearest supermarkets are in Altaussee and Bad Aussee, not ideal but feasible if you plan ahead a little.

SLEEP QUALITY: EXCELLENT
The chalets are all very secluded so if you don't have neighbours partying until late at night you'll definitely have neither noise nor light pollution intruding on your sleep or stargazing!

HOW TO GET THERE: POOR
Not their fault but still needs to be included - there is basically no easy way to get there by public transport. Most people will go there by car anyway (usually for skiing, mountainbiking or hiking holidays) but this is definitely not a location you have easy access to if you rely on public transport.

SERVICE: FANTASTIC!
A big thank you to Andrea Strimitzer who we exchanged several dozen emails and phone calls with, who patiently answered all of our questions, who always smiled and was super helpful with all the changes that occur when you have 100 people staying in the same place for four days. She helped us figuring out in which huts we'd need double or twin bed rooms, where we needed baby cribs, and she stayed calm despite the many changes due to friends and family changing travel plans, cancelling last minute due to illness, people changing rooms, people staying only one night but someone else taking over their room, etc.... Andrea and everyone we met were all super friendly and we felt that they really wanted us and our family and friends to have a good time. Our wedding would not have been as relaxed as it was had it not been for their help and unfaltering smiles!! Thank you!

A word about the chalet payment mode: unfortunately, they follow a strict "one hut, one bill" policy. If you're travelling as a group of friends, make sure beforehand that you have enough cash on you and bring a calculator so you don't spend hours to figure out who owes what to whom :)

VALUE FOR MONEY: EXCELLENT
Although not a super cheap option (a "Pension" - B&B - would have been cheaper per person), it's definitely great value for money. We compared various chalet villages (Hüttendörfer) around Austria (Meizeit at Turracher Hoehe, Feuerkogel, Reiteralm) and thought that the Hagan Lodge village was definitely the best, cosiest option by far.

WILL WE RETURN?
Definitely!!

AlpenParks Hagan Lodge is positioned in a quite area, which allows full relax. The cottage was clean and well maintained. All facilities are provided. A restaurant nearby allows additional flexibility. We only missed a supermarket at walking distance.

Spent 1 week at the lodge, would def. look at coming back during the ski season. Luxury lodge was 190 per night, which initially looked pricey, but considering lodge sleeps 9 the price per person had it been full was not expensive. Fully equiped, ( no oven or washing machine).. And was perfect for our short stay. Did not use restuarant as we self catered.
