“Comfortable and cosy stay in a beautiful cottage.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2014

We stayed in one of the Tuishuise cottages last weekend as a last minute decision after having to make an overnight stop in Cradock. We decided to book here as it was at the top of the Tripadvisor list for Cradock, and we soon saw why! After checking in at the hotel we were led to our historic cottage. What looked to be a very small building on the outside was deceptively large inside, with 3 good sized bedrooms. The cottage was beautifully decorated in the Victorian style, but with a modern shower in the large bathroom. A food breakfast was served in the Victoria Hotel at the end of the street. Special mention must be made of the staff who were extremely friendly and accommodating - even phoning us after check out to say that our son had left his 'Hulk' toy behind! We will definitely be back here again at some point - hopefully for a longer stay.

We stayed here for 2nights whilst visiting Mountain Zebra NP.What a find.We were upgraded from hotel to a cottage which had been renovated to an excellent standard. All the staff were wonderfully helpful and Amos gave us super service each night in the restaurant. The food was good and tasty. There was a great choice for breakfast, probably our best buffet in South Africa. This is a great place to stay. This hotel and the visit to Mountain Zebra NP were a highlight of our holiday.

Cradock has lots of old buildings, including Die Tuishuise itself. My research suggested that is the obvious place to stay and my one-night stay confirmed that. The room was not large but the service was good. Also a very good dinner. If you are going to Cradock, you are probably going from Port Elizabeth to Mountain Zebra National Park, which I strongly recommend and is very easy to drive round (tarred roads). Then Graaff-Reinet is a great place (Camdeboo excellent, divert to Nieu-Bethesda on the way). Karoo National Park at Beaufort West is disappointing, very few animals. Apart from that, your route is pretty obvious.

One gets so used to hotel and guesthouse rooms that you start to compare everything with that. Well, this can't be compared to any of those. Tuishuise is ideally situated in Cradock to explore the town's history and other sights as well as for a trip out to Mountain Zebra. Its the second time I stayed at Tuishuise and the place just blew me away once again. Old world charm at it's best. The Tuishuise is stunning with all the antique furniture combined with modern bathrooms and all the amenities you need. Breakfast in the Victorian Hotel was better than I've had at most guesthouses and everybody was super friendly. Just the way you would expect from small town hospitality.

Just like the pictures - a row of bright houses with Victorian tin roofs. We stayed in "Out of Africa", it was like stepping back 100 years. All the basic are provided, the houses are well restored, neatly decorated and makes you smile. There is plenty of information provided in the house on things to see and do. Detailed history of the town and surrounds is also in the house. The staff are friendly, the breakfast good. We will be back and will stay a little longer.

We have stayed in the Die Tuishuise for two nights. The place is really unique and beautiful. We had a big beautiful house for ourselves. The house was furnished with very old items. Everyting looked original like in the 18th century. It was like living in another time or museum. The restaurant in the hotel was delicous and the staff very friendly. Die Tuishuise are really a secret place where a visit is a must. We can recommend the place a lot.

Our second stay at this quirky but wonderful hotel, and accommodation. From the clear concise on-line booking, the exchange of e-mails and check in to the leaving this was a pleasurable stay. The restaurant, food and staff are excellent. Everyone is attentive and helpful. The only slight downside was a need to improve some of the plumbing, (but these were only minor niggles) The cottages are very well 'dressed' and maintained. The cleaning and care is exemplary.

The whole experience is one not to be missed.

Room Tip: All of the Tuisehuise cottages are different and individual, but they are all wonderful!
