“trying to find a criticism and failing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013

we just spent 12 days at this hotel. in fact i am writing this from the main outside patio in the sunshine hopelessly trying to find a criticism and failing as there is literally nothing to criticise. The staff as unfailingly polite and cheerful, everything is efficient, of excellent quality and everything works. for example, we were staying at the alte post hotel and guest house which is part of this hotel but just 100 metres down the road. so they provide lockers that you can keep at the main hotel and the swimming complex so you dont have to carry stuff back and forth. and you can keep it your whole stay. they have a cafe in the seepavillion where the main pools are by the lake so you dont have to traipse to the hotel. They have a tunnel from this to the main hotel so you dont have to cross the road. although there is no traffic. There are umbrellas everywhere for when it rains. there are bikes all over the village so you can get from the alte post to the main hotel. the towels are at the main reception and fresh each day so you dont have to carry them about. everyone greets you as they pass and the staff are kind and efficient without being overbearing. I mean they dont have english tea but apologise profusely and always recall at every cafe that I take three of their teabags and cold milk. Annette in their Spa is the world's best masseuse. I had three. my husband had two. The sports facilities are amazing. The children learned to windsurf on teh lake and got international licences. They have kayaking, archery, fishing sailing, and lots of biking with professional and dedicated teachers. I must mention Monika who taught my sons. they forgot to collect their certificates; she cycled over to hand deliver them and each has photos of the boys with their group. Finally I must mention Erland who runs the Alte Post. I can do no more but thank him for such superb service. This is a family owned and run hotel. Even their youngest son works at the ice cream parlour. And you can feel the fact that their aim is to ensure you enjoy your holiday. They even have baskets in each room to carry your stuff in. Its safe, clean, healthy and great fun. This hotel puts the much more expensive Club Med to shame because they achieve the same level of hospitality with no marketing and much more individual care. We hope to come back soon.

Room Tip: Get one that does not face the central clock if you are at the alte post hotel

We booked this hotel to meet some friends who live in central Europe. We had a wonderful and relaxing week there with our 6-month old daughter. The hotel is more suitable for families with toddlers than for small babies, however, it does have all the facilities you need for them (kitchen, washing machine, cots and changing tables - even a supply of bibs and spoons in the dining room). The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. It would be a great location if you're keen on mountainbiking or tennis, and is also good if you simply want to lie by a beautiful lake reading a book and get fed regularly! If you have a car there are a lot of interesting places to visit nearby. You would run out of local places to visit after a week. Some of the décor is a bit tired but to be honest it's a benefit with small children not to feel like they might wreck the place!

Room Tip: The Alte Post is due to be refurbished this year. The rooms at the side of the Brennseehof seem to b...

Fo Skiing at BKK this is a little way out, only 2 buses per day to the lifts and it takes 20 mins. The staff were lovely and the hotel is well equiped and clean and tidy. The spa area is a very nice place to relax after a long day on the slopes, Food was good also although i would say the wine was a little pricey, when you are full board and there are very few other places to go in the evening for a drink it would be nice to see the wine lower to residents.. Mainly German or Italian guests, not too many English, however we found that the Germans of course spoke very good english and we have a very pleasent New Year of celebrations. Would return in Summer but not for Skiing.

Room Tip: all rooms good

We booked this hotel after seeing it promoted as a 'kinder sporthotel'. It does have a beautiful setting and loads of activites on offer. We found it difficult at times due to a lack of English translation of some of the printed material and limited English of most of the staff. However enough of the staff spoke enough English to do some mountain biking (excellent), sailing lessons, tennis and football.
We were the only English family for some of our stay and so our children missed the opportunity to make friends, which at 8 and 11 is now a big part of their holiday.
Having said all that, the accommodation was spotless(we had a 2 bedroom suite), the food plentiful and good and the staff friendly. It still retains it's family run feel. We loved the spa facilities and my daughter enjoyed her children's 'hot-stone' massage
There was no nightlife to speak of, although there were some sporting activites run in the evening such as curling and archery, with schnapps served to encourage international relations!
We would return if going with friends or if more geared up for English families with limited language skills!
lovely holiday overall

We have just returned from a week at Hotel Brennseehof in Austria.
Although we had a lovely week it was not quite as we had anticipated and thought a few tips would be helpful.
The hotel is advertised as more of a teenager hotel than most of the Kinder hotels. The week that we were there this was not our experience- most of the children were very young and the minority teenage. All families there were very polite with extremely well behaved children so it was not an issue for us.
We were the only English speaking family for the majority of the week; one other English family arrived after 5 days. Some of the staff speak limited English so we would advise that you take German phrasebooks/dictionary. The information evening is entirely in German with a short piece in Italian. There is English information leaflet at Reception but you will need to ask for it. It is definitely a case of being proactive as most of the time we were unsure of which was going on and at times felt a bit excluded due to language barriers.
Each person is issued with a booklet of tokens- this however be aware that most activities cost extra money so watch out when booking for additional costs. If you would like to take out a sailing boat then you will need a certificate before the sailing school will allow you to rent one.
My husband went on a mountain bike ride, from the hotel, which he really enjoyed, however even in the “intermediate” group, the ride was pretty challenging and involved hard climbs and steep descents with sheer drops to one side – so, not for novices.
Mini golf at the hotel was fun and free!
Tennis courts are often booked for the trainers so try to book as early as you can.
Mountain trip was good – very picturesque but the advertised short walk (1 and a half hours) is very easy (targetted at young families) with lots of stops to photograph flowers. There are two cafés at the top of the mountain which served drinks and simple food e.g. cheese /meat/ bread.
Meals in the hotel were mostly very good with fresh local produce and daily choice of three main dishes (meat, fish, vegetarian)
Lovely apple strudel and cakes in the café on left hand side as you walk from Brenneseehof into Feld am see .
There is a Spa shop in the village for basics that you may have forgotten! Also a very good information centre with helpful staff who speak English.
Family with 2 children aged 12 and 14

Room Tip: We had a top floor room with a separate bedrooom above for the children with a lake side view which...

We've just returned from a fantastic summer week at this hotel. The setting is beautiful and there is something for everyone: There is a lovely grassy lido area by the lake with warm swimming / paddling pools, a little beach and lots of sun loungers Our two small children (3 and 1) really enjoyed the kids club activities leaving us free for a few hours each day to play tennis, kayak or visit the spa. We all went out on bike rides and in a pedalo on the lake. Food was delicious with lots of fresh local produce, fish especially good. (Very surprised at the previous negative review). The restaurant has a lovely outdoor terrace. The hotel staff were all extremely helpful. We flew from Stansted to Klagenfurt and booked transfers through the hotel (30 euros each way). We tore ourselves away from the hotel one morning and rented the hotel car (20 euros) to take a cable car from St Oswald to see the mountains.

Overall the hotel is amazing value as so many activities and facilities are included. It is also incredibly child friendly - there's milk provided in a little kitchen on each floor, gates around the playareas and bibs in the restaurant. True luxury - not flash but very very comfortable. We don't normally visit the same place twice but we are planning to return next summer. One final point - mainly German speaking guests but they were all very friendly.

Have been staying at the hotel for a week with my 4 years old daughter. Positive – friendly staff, excellent food, good facilities, good value for money, nice people visiting, meaning good company... Negative – not easy to reach from the UK, the kindergarten ski school is crap, after 3 days I almost lost my daughter’s for ski... Why no one has told me we have alternatives, but kept charging me?! The kindergarten in general is for parents, who want to get rid of their children for a while and enjoy themselves, which wasn't my case... This lady Alex better starts doing something else, not working with children...The lack of snow didn't help us either, it was more spring than winter

Room Tip: all not bad
