“Seriously delicious food”
Reviewed 11 November 2012

As a long term visitor to Goa, I get seriously put off by curries and even the smell of them.

This restaurant is superb. A little off the main tourist areas, (on the Fort Aguada Road just before the Taj) but definitely worth the journey. Small restaurant so hope it doesn't get too popular!!

Superb food, the Red bean and tofu stew is absolutely delicious. I eat there at least once if not twice a week and the choice for vegetarians (non curried) is immense. Pricing is good and value for money is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Other people I know also say the fish and meat dishes are good too.

“Seriously super nosh at the Himalaya for all tastes and diets"”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

Maybe it was the unusual propsect of eating in a Tibetan Restaurant in somethng that looks like a concrete bunker that made our trips to the Himalaya far better than we had anticipated or maybe it was being offered a bottle of beautifully chilled port for the equivalent of £1.20. Whatever was the case, meal times here are a delight.
The Himalaya is a well-established restaurant set in the most unpretentious of circumstances where wonderful vegetable and non-veg Thali and genuine Tibetan dishes are served on a menu alongside more established local dishes such as "sizzlers" and fresh fish or vegetable staples. This place stands next to the Taj Hotel that charges £300 a night for room only, yet there were plenty of their customers queing for the few tables that had not been reserved each night. A real gem and no mistake. Excellent service; even though the odd customers were belly-aching it was mainly due to thier poor command of English or the waiter's inability to understand the nuances of their particular Russian accent! Not to be missed- and best of all; if you spend twelve quid between two people you would have to be a real gloutton!

“My favorite restaurant in Goa!”
Reviewed 20 December 2011

This humble little place has consistently over the years been on of my staple joints during my stay in Goa. It is family run which I suppose accounts for the fact, that the quality of the food doesn't dip. They specialize in continental and Tibetan food. I've had both many many times and they're both excellent. Apart from being tasty, their dishes are well decorated and presented, which was surprise to me in so humble a place. Every entree is accompanied by a very generous salad and chips. The price is very fair, it so affordable, that you can eat there many many times during a long stay in Goa. In testimony to that fact, the restaurant is always full and usually filled with regulars. and naturally, since their turnover is high, their sea food and vegetables are always very fresh. The ambiance can only be described as clean and functional, it's a humble place. The service is quick but their English is limited. During my 5-day stay this time I ate atleast one meal at Himalaya. Over the years, I have come to know the family well, and they give me a warm welcome.

My favorite seafood dish here is squid stuffed with prawns. The grilled prawns and fish are always a safe bet. Their desserts are also yummy, I love their simple bread pudding and caramel custard.
