Plaza Inn Kawaguchiko

The staff were friendly. They helped program our heater because all of the buttons on the remote are in Japanese. The room small. The wall covering in the room has some tears in it. The bathroom is a small closet. The bed was amazingly firm, but jet lag allows us to sleep anywhere. The wifi was super- and free.

Don't miss the elevator ride. In America, elevators are not allowed to be this small.

Good for the price we paid.

We booked 2 rooms for a one night stay. It is an old hotel but clean. The rooms were shabby and surprisingly the beds were comfortable. From the front lobby you can get a magnificent view of mt fuji. But they hv only one or two rooms with mt fuji view. My room can view half of mt fuji as it was blocked by another building adjacent to this hotel. The check in was fast and the owner was very helpful. It was good value for money and i do not mind staying here again. It was a very convenient hotel , 5 min walk from the station, as we took the express bus from shinjuku and return by express bus to Haneda. Very convenient and within our budget.

Stayed here late 2012. Best way to describe the inn is 'value for money'. For what you pay you shouldn't expect to much. The room was clean. Good Wi-fi. Got to sleep on tatami mats which was a unique experience. The heater was good, as it was 0 degrees outside! The bathrooms were clean, even though they were shared facilities. The staff was very friendly and informative, giving us discounts to fuji-q highlands (theme park) and times of the buses. The inn is close to convenient stores and the station. Station has buses which provide tours around the region which was extremely good. If your like me and only need a place to sleep and store gear, this is the place for you! Great value for money and great staff.

The location of this hotel is good for catching the bus up to the 5 th station on Mt Fuji. Staff had limited English but were generally helpful. The room was tidy and clean. Would stay again at this hotel. Quite a few restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: Any room would be good to stay in

The hotel was about 30 metres away from the train and bus station, it was rated as 3 star but unfortunately we would rate it around 2 star and most hostels would put this hotel to shame. It was a small family run hotel (we only saw one person during our two night stay), with limited English speaking staff. The room was clean and not too small, but the décor was the main let down, rips in the wall paper, thin carpets and noisy air conditioning which kept us awake all night. We chose the hotel to be close the station, as we planned to ‘bullet climb’ Mt Fuji (same day up and down) by getting a good start and the 7:20am service bus up to the 5th Station for 8:10am. For that purpose it was handy and better than a tent or accommodation on Mt Fuji but that’s about it. There was no breakfast and limited cafes and restaurants in the area. There is a small Italian restaurant in the area but we had to walk about 20 minutes to find a café that served evening meals. The station does have a café which is open through the day but the menu is limited to bowls of noodles. There is a 7/11 about 100 metres from this hotel where you can pick up any necessities but that is about it. If you are not climbing Mt Fuji then there are bigger complex style hotels in the area for the 5 lakes and we would recommend you look around.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel in the area and book early.

Good: Location

Drawback: limited amenities, communication in English may be an issue

======================================
Room stayed: Single room (attached bathroom)

Room rate: 4500yen (weekday)

Location: Less than 5 mins walk from Kawaguchiko station. Convenience store is about 5~10mins walk from the hotel. Few restaurants are located around the area.

Front desk staffs: Most of them are unable to speak English, only simple single words. You may connect to the hotel WIFI and use translator for communication.

Room condition: As a budget hotel, the size of the room is considered big. Different room has different size. Room is old but clean. Bathroom is standard size. During very cold day, the air conditioner heater function may not be sufficient to keep you warm.

Toiletries/amenities: Toothbrush/paste, razor, soap, and kettle are provided. In-room slippers are recycled. No safe in the room. No drinking water provided and you have to boil yourself. Green tea pack is served. Vending machine (selling drinks) is available. No fridge, which is quite inconvenient.

Internet: WIFI at lobby area.

Stay at this hotel helps me to fully utilize all the time once I arrived Kawaguchiko in the morning. Walk to the hotel to leave my luggage and start my journey. No need to wait for the pickup that only starts from 3pm, in general, for most of the hotels. It is very convenient if you need to take the 1st train at Kawaguchiko station. It is also convenient if you need to take buses to other Fuji five lakes and sightseeing spots.

My 1st budget hotel in Kawaguchiko. There are still lots of budget hotel in this area. Unable to comment if this is the best. In overall, the standard is quite ok.
