These bungalows are in a top location on Muri Beach, one section back from the beach with outdoor sitting areas front and back of unit. The beach is easily accessed. The bungalow was clean and comfortable, modern with a tasteful island decor, great shower - 2 bottles of water and 3 paw paws were provided on arrival! There are hens and drums from down the road... but all part of the island atmosphere and did not bother us at all.
Deli-licious (bakehouse rather than cafe) just down the road was well used - superb takeout deli food at a good price. Budget rentals were frustrating to deal with - we finally got our rental after 3 visits of 45mins each! Superb lunch at Marie Nui Gardens and Tamarind House. Great place to stay...Ivor was a great host. We will be back!

Room Tip: bring own beach towel

We have now stayed at Dorothy's twice and this time was even more relaxing, friendly and pleasant than the first, which was very special. We found the rooms were exceptional for the price - clean, in excellent condition, comfortable, centrally situated for beach, shops, restaurants and transport. There are many eating places of various sizes and menus very close by. The drums we heard were from Captain Tama's "drum school" but were not intrusive. The beach is one of the best on the island with an easy wade over to the motu at most tides, with easy snorkelling on the way.
This is the ultimate of tropical holidays and we are and older with experience of almost all South Pacific islands.
And then there are the hosts - Ivor and Dorothy are the friendliest, most obliging and happy hosts you could find, without being intrusive.
If you are going to the Cooks - don't go past Dorothys.

Before we booked Dorothys I read many of the reviews on trip advisor, all of which were complimentary. The one that mentioned the noise was not on here when we booked. The noise itself is cultural drumming which is fine if you like that kind of thing every night from about 8.30pm, needless to say we were not expecting the drumming but this was not a problem. We stayed while there was building work going on which we were warned about and for which we received a discount on the rate for. What I did not sign up for was the private area off our bedroom being not so private. On the only morning it was fine enough to get up early and read outside, the owner decided to come around the back at 8.30am and do some gardening. I was in just my underwear as I thought this was private (no where near the building site), so i went inside feeling very uncomfotable, he also did this the next morning before we were even out of bed, i felt like our privacy was not respected at all.

Upon arrival the milk supplied in the fridge was expired, there were 3 soap bar remnants in the shower, one containing a large pubic hair on it, and a dead cockroach in one of the kitchen drawers. So definately not the immaculately clean accommodation we were expecting based on the previous reviews of this accommodation.

The location was really good, you just walk down a short path and you're on Muri close to kayak and snorkell hire, and snickers cocktails at the point restaurant. The accommodation was good, it was a bit small but only due to the fact that the weather was really bad and we spent alot more time there than we had hoped. The bed is really comfy and the ventilation was really good, as was the fan. The kitchen is well euipped, but there is no microwave. There is dishwashing liquid and washing powder which was much appreciated. The bathroom shower pressure is very good for raro, and the bathroom is nicely laid out.

It is overall a good place to stay if you are out and about every day. I hope that we were the exception to their cleanliness and that no one else has our experience. It is an awesome location for a good price, but i would not recommend it to a friend.

Dorothy’s Muri Beach Bungalows are right in the heart of Muri Beach. While it is a little noisy in the early evening with the cultural show each night, we found it well worth it to be 2minutes walk from the beach, the general store, two fantastic burger bars (Miro’s Diner and KaiKai Time) and the famed Italian restaurant, Stefano's. The bungalow itself is well-laid out with effective ventilation, functional kitchen and lovely bathroom. Associated with the bungalows is an executive taxi service which we found very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thanks again Ivor for your lovely hospitality. We have had the pleasure of stay here twice. The cabins have everything you could want including a washing machine and dryer. They are spotlessly clean and in a great position to Muri lagoon. Ivor is a wonderful host and will look after you. Hope to see you again soon.

We would stay again at Dorothys Bungalows. Just what we needed for a lovely quiet two week holiday by the beach with everything we needed. Real handy to Muri beach attractions , meals, rentals, shops, glass bottom boats, resorts, transport. The owner was great and made sure we were comfortable, meeting us on arrival at airport and departure there. He called with local fruit and to check if all was O.K. Certainly we can recommend this place for a relaxing time. Cheers Neil & Linley. Christchurch NZ.

We meant to write this review after staying at Dorothy's in January. We first heard about Dorothy's from Trip Advisor and all the good comments were true. Excellent value for money. Ivor was so helpful and welcoming, the rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, and the beach was just a hop, skip, and a jump away. The sand at Muri beach was soft and the water wonderfully clear. Thanks for an excellent holiday.
