“A place to really unwind...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

We recently stayed in Kura's Kabana's for 7 nights and had a great time.

The Kabana's are right on the water front in front of the motu. They are in a very beautiful and quiet position. While the lagoon water directly in front is slightly shallow for snorkelling, you only need to walk/ kayak 10 minutes down the beach for deeper water.

When we first arrived we wondered what the holes in the lawn were, after a little while we realised that it's where pretty large crabs dig down into the soil. If you're lucky you can catch them on the lawn before the scuttle back into their holes.

We stayed in Kabana 3, which as others have said is not the closest to the water but this makes hardly any difference at all. The Kabana's are well located in Muri, with restaurants and resorts only a 5 minute walk away and the town of Avarua approx 15 minute by scooter away.

The Kabana's themselves have everything you need in the bathroom and kitchen, if a little basic. We had towels for both the bathroom and the beach which were regularly changed, as were the bed sheets. There were condiments and tea/ coffee and milk in the kitchen, a table and sun lounge on the veranda outside.

There is air conditioning available for $25 NZD per day but we just used the fan in the room. We didn't think it was noisy, but maybe took a little while to cool the room down at first. I would agree with another reviewer that the walls must be pretty thin in the Kabana's as you can hear others, but this wasn't too much of a problem unless you're listening out for it. From one kabana you cannot see into the other as they are angled so you do have some privacy. It's a pretty peaceful place, with the cockerels probably making the most noise.

We didn't notice the smell or even see the chicken farm at all during our stay. As the other reviewer mentioned too - the cat is very friendly (we thought he just liked us - obviously not).

The owners of Kura's Kabana's were very helpful and provided both of our airport transfers even late at night. We didn't really need to be in contact with the office at all during our stay, but if they are not there, you are also given a phone number to contact them. They really seem to be happy to answer all questions/ help in anyway they can.

Kura's Kabana's is a small, self catering accommodation which lends itself to independent travellers happy to explore for themselves. There are lots of resorts that will cater to all of your whims but if you don't need/ want that, then this is a great option also at a great price.

Room Tip: Kabana 4 is closest to the lagoon, but this hardly makes any difference if you can't get it.

We stayed 7 nights in 2 Kabanas. Kabanas 1 and 2 Myself and my wife in two and our 2 teenage boys in one, We enjoyed our stay and the location is great. The lagoon is at you door step and is beautiful. There was a very friendly cat that spent its time with us and made it feel like home.
There is Kayaks and one outrigger for guests to use we enjoyed using the outrigger.
The hosts are friendly and are there to help if you need anything.
The only complaints is the ceiling fan is very noisey and there is a poultry farm across the road and at night it smells.
We had the smell 5 out of the 7 nights but this is not a fault of Kuras Kabanas.
We would stay again

We stayed in the Grand Villa on the top level and waking up to those views everyday was just amazing! Although the villa was not on site of Kura's Kabanas, it was only a short walk and we were treated really well by Robin and crew.
Our villa was immaculately cleaned daily and we were given a lovely arrangement of fruit as well as beautifully picked flowers to make our stay even more enjoyable.
Raro is one of a kind and I would definitely recommend it.. we have already planned our next trip back to paradise!!

Kura's kabanas and the Grand Villa were the perfect location for our whanau holiday. Kura and her team were the perfect hosts right from the moment they collected us from the airport. The kabana's were serviced regularly and the grounds were immaculate, with beautiful flora and fauna everywhere! The view, the minute you arrive at Kura's Kabanas, was picturesque and looked just like a postcard. I would definitely recommend Kura's Kabanas to anyone travelling to Rarotonga. Thank you Kura for an awesome holiday and we look forward to returning soon.

Kura's Kabana's the ideal place for our whanau. 23 of us stayed, a mixture of children and adults. The kabanas, grand villa and family units were ideal. They were serviced every day, the place was kept clean and tidy. The owners and workers were extremely friendly and helpful. We were impressed by the venue, the lagoon was perfect for the children, the BBQ area was handy for us to relax and cook our own meals our overall stay was just fantastic and we are definitely going to be booking there again.
Thanks for accommodating our whanau, we felt so comfortable and enjoyed every moment of our holiday in beautiful Rarotonga.

Room Tip: The family units do not have air conditioning only ceiling fans, so if you can not handle the heat t...

We have just returned from 10 days staying at the Kura's Kabanas number 2 - the first thing you notice is the beautiful view of the lagoon - the Kabanas are beautifully clean with the lovely ladies coming in daily except sundays to tidy up and make the bed - they were very helpful with anything we asked. the little stream under the bridge has lovely little fish and a big eel. you can walk across the lagoon to the islands as the lagoon is very shallow of Kura's, and such beautiful clear water. Their are lots of resturants on the island we can recommend The Moorings Cafe not far going towards Avarua on the right hand side - the seafood sandwiches in Turkish bread is to die for - you would have sworn the fish had jumped out of the ocean into the pan soo sweet. for a nice dinner out i can recommend The Tamarind resturant. The Saturday market is a must as they have the island dancers performing also with the drums. Even though there is the island bus we always get a car to meet us at the airport and used Island Car rentals they were very good and reasonable. Robyn and Kura are very hospitable and anything we needed was never any trouble and so friendly asking if we were comfortable and did we need anything. Sometimes if the weather is windy on one side of the island it pays to pop over the other side where it will be calm. This has been the best relaxing holiday for us and will certainly be coming back.

Room Tip: We loved the Kabanas and any would be lovely we had number 2 and loved it - number 1 is neares the l...

We heard about Kura's through a friend of ours that as stayed here for the last 5 years. Everything about Kura's was more than we expected. The location on Muri beach is fantastic! The lagoon is very child friendly as the water is calm and usually comes up to your thighs at high tide. Kura's is a 15mins drive from Avarua (main town). The bus stops directly outside Kura's so it is easy to get around. There are plenty of nice restaurants and cafe's within walking distance and a small supermarket to pick up the basics 100m down the road. We stayed in Kabana #3 and had a beautiful view off our balcony and were 10m from the beach. There is a lot of privacy as there are only 4 kabanas in total and the are offset so you can't see any of your neighbours when you are eating dinner. The staff are so friendly! Robin & Kura go out of their way to make sure you have an enjoyable stay and the cleaning staff is exemplary. Our room was always so clean and they loved to chat with you and give you information from a local perspective. There is everything you might need in the kitchen and the BBQ area on the beach was utilized often. This is the place if you want quiet relaxation and no busy resort crowds to fight for loungers with. We would definitly come back here again and recommend it to our family and friends.

Room Tip: Kabana #4 is closest to the beach. All are great but try to get #3 or 4 if you can.
