We recently stayed in Kura's Kabana's for 7 nights and had a great time.
The Kabana's are right on the water front in front of the motu. They are in a very beautiful and quiet position. While the lagoon water directly in front is slightly shallow for snorkelling, you only need to walk/ kayak 10 minutes down the beach for deeper water.
When we first arrived we wondered what the holes in the lawn were, after a little while we realised that it's where pretty large crabs dig down into the soil. If you're lucky you can catch them on the lawn before the scuttle back into their holes.
We stayed in Kabana 3, which as others have said is not the closest to the water but this makes hardly any difference at all. The Kabana's are well located in Muri, with restaurants and resorts only a 5 minute walk away and the town of Avarua approx 15 minute by scooter away.
The Kabana's themselves have everything you need in the bathroom and kitchen, if a little basic. We had towels for both the bathroom and the beach which were regularly changed, as were the bed sheets. There were condiments and tea/ coffee and milk in the kitchen, a table and sun lounge on the veranda outside.
There is air conditioning available for $25 NZD per day but we just used the fan in the room. We didn't think it was noisy, but maybe took a little while to cool the room down at first. I would agree with another reviewer that the walls must be pretty thin in the Kabana's as you can hear others, but this wasn't too much of a problem unless you're listening out for it. From one kabana you cannot see into the other as they are angled so you do have some privacy. It's a pretty peaceful place, with the cockerels probably making the most noise.
We didn't notice the smell or even see the chicken farm at all during our stay. As the other reviewer mentioned too - the cat is very friendly (we thought he just liked us - obviously not).
The owners of Kura's Kabana's were very helpful and provided both of our airport transfers even late at night. We didn't really need to be in contact with the office at all during our stay, but if they are not there, you are also given a phone number to contact them. They really seem to be happy to answer all questions/ help in anyway they can.
Kura's Kabana's is a small, self catering accommodation which lends itself to independent travellers happy to explore for themselves. There are lots of resorts that will cater to all of your whims but if you don't need/ want that, then this is a great option also at a great price.
