“Kura's Kabanas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

We only stayed 3 nights at Kura’s Kabanas, but the establishment was just adorable! A peaceful, relaxing spot right on the water. It wasn't great for swimming as the water didn't come over my knees, but it still resembled the beautiful ocean expected of Rarotonga. The owners were lovely, even letting us have some limes from their tree and teaching me how to make lemon grass tea (Which was AMAZING!!!!) The gardens were well kept and a beautiful view from our patio, with the ocean setting the scene behind them. We stayed in the family villa room which was simple, large and tidy.

The bathroom was tidy and we had everything we needed in the kitchen (although we didn't cook). House keeping was great as we didn't know we were having any, so it was nice coming home to a made bed.

We spent our days up the road at The Pacific Resort which has a public beach (also shallow but great for swimming). Even better they still served you cocktails on the beach even if you weren’t staying in-house.

All in all, Kura's Kabanas offered us the peace and tranquility we needed :-)
Thank you to the hosts, will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Watch out for the giant crap holes (walking around in the dark no advised)

We have just arrived back in OZ after a first trip to Rarotonga. We stayed at Kura's which is located beside Muri Lagoon. The Kabana's are great, nice & private. We had a lovely Cat named George which took a liking to sleeping on our deck outside the kabana, & would follow us to the beach & sunbake with us, then follow us back to the room. If anyone comes across George, he loves the cans of cat food from the nearby store & loves a bit of cold milk. Upon arrival I wasn't sure what the big holes in the ground were, but soon discovered they were home to large crabs, it was a bit of a novelty trying to spot them as the sun went down.
If you are looking to just chill out & relax, I recommend Kura's. Robyn picked us up from the airport at a crazy hour of the morning & gave us beautiful lei's made of fresh flowers that made the kabana smell beautiful.
I highly recommend the burgers from Fruits of Rarotonga which is about 2kms from Muri. The lady who runs the shop is great & super friendly. We also ate out at Rickshaws & it was fantastic, my favourite little restaurant on Raro. It was my partners' birthday during our stay, so we went to a lovely beachside restaurant called Sails, very friendly staff & great service.
We had an amazing, relaxing stay at Kura's Kabanas, & we will return again next year.

We spent only 3 nights at Kura's Kabanas, but would have loved longer. Robin and Kura are great hosts. The kabanas are quiet and private, even though the 4 kabanas sit right alongside each other. Never heard the neighbours!
We arrived into Raro at midnight and Robin was at the airport to greet us. Because of our late arrival we were only charged an early check in rather than for the full night (half daily rate) which I thought was very generous. And when we checked out on our last day at 10am, Robin stored our luggage in the office until he transferred us to the airport at 2.30pm - for a small $20 fee which is very reasonable as it saved us a lot of hassle with all of our luggage and supplies to take to Aitutaki.
The rooms are quite spacious and the decks are also roomy. While we weren't there much except to sleep, we were more than happy with Kura's Kabanas. We only cooked breakfast and ate out for all other meals, but the kitchen is very good and looked capable of handling all meals easily.
Good showers with plenty of hot water. Wifi hotspot available - you just buy credit down the road at the Telecom store and utilise the hotspot.
The beach out front is ok but a bit shallow for swimming even at high tide. But great for a paddle or exploring across to the island out front. Kayaks are available too. Its a short walk along the beach to the main part of Muri - for dining and swimming etc. And along the road you can easily hire your scooter for the same price as anywhere else on the island. They give good service there too.
Theres a few stores just 100m or so down the main road outside the Kabanas.
Like anyway in the Cooks there are loads of roosters! But after the first day hopefully you wont even notice them!
If you want luxury and 5stars this isn't for you but if you want a nice, clean, spacious accommodation in a great location look no further.
Thanks Robin, Kura and staff for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Every kabana has views of the lagoon from the room and deck.

I stayed here July - Aug 2013 with my mother, father and 7 year old daughter. We wern't sure what to expect but felt we would like it just from the photos alone and the good communication we had via email with the owners and staff.

We were there at the same time the annual festival is being held. Was awesome. Saturday Markets are awesome i recommend those as well.

We were picked up from the airport by Robin and he told us a little about the Country and its history whilst making our way to Kura's Kabanas.

Kura's Kabanas is located on the quiet end of Muri beach and almost feels like the beach is yours alone! how awesome. Very private and relaxing. It is close to a main attraction Te vara Nui Village and in walking distance to other attractions on Muri Beach.

On arrival Robin took us through some general housekeeping and left us to explore on our own.
We stayed in a Family unit up stairs. THe room was very roomy and very clean. We loved the touch of Rarotonga on the bedspreads! We were treated to complimentary fruits and milk.

As i say the rooms were basic (how much time are you going to stay in your room? nothing flash really needed just a comfortable clean room i say)but the rooms were very clean and roomy. housekeeping staff we very friendly and didn't hesitate in giving us some tips on the best places to eat and visit. As my daughter is an only child it was great that it happened to be school holidays in Rarotonga and the housekeeping staff had bought their children in to play on the beach, yay my child had some friends to play with.

There is a covered BBQ area available to guests right on the beach. We didn't use it for cooking but often found ourselves lounging around on the deck.

We had other family (20+ ppl) staying in other motels on Muri beach and were paying 2-3 times the price per night but none could offer the peaceful serenity Kura's Kabanas did. I think they were secretly jealous hehe

Although there isn't a swimming pool there it doesn't really matter as it's so close to the safe lagoon that you or the children could splash around in and explore all day long. You never get tired of the wonderful views and the tranquility they offer.

I intend on coming back to Rarotonga and will only stay at Kura's Kabanas. Thank you so much Robin and Kura and all the staff there that made our stay so enjoyable and carefree.

Room Tip: If you are a family stay in the Family units, otherwise for couples or singles i would have loved to...

We enjoyed an extended holiday over the 2012 Christmas season. Our stay was nothing short of incredible. We stayed in bungalow 3 as well and Robyn, Kura and their staff were so pleasant and forever helpful. Words can't really express our vacation experience; you have to visit to understand the true meaning of the best vacation ever.

Not sure if it is coincidence but prior to our stay nobody mentioned the presence of a friendly cat in their review. As it happens to be, from day 2 of our stay we were pretty much adopted by this cat (white with orange tabby coloring) who found us to be his new family; his companionship completed our vacation. Yes, we fed him on an ongoing going basis; he loves the cat food that has the beef veal sauce avail in the food stores and named him Marvin (cause he was always starvin). For those of you who have enjoyed and experienced his wonderful personality (including his loving body massages) and unconditional companionship we appreciate knowing that he is sharing his presence with other visitors and doing well. Our apologies to those who don't share our appreciation of his returning presence.

We hope to return soon and occupy Bungalow 3 once again and experience yet another beautiful stay on an island we can only describe as the pearl of the South Pacific.

Room Tip: Kura's Kabanas is a sure recommendation to whomever wants to experience living at home away from...

We stayed in the downstairs family unit from August 5th to 9th. We were wonderfuly greeted by Robin in the early hours from the airport. Our room was immaculatey clean and spacious enough for a family of 4 with a lovely patio which was always bathed in sun and used often for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This room was private and enjoyed a view of the lagoon a short distance away. Kura's is located at the quiet end of the lagoon within easy walking distance from great places to eat ( checkout the Moorings, The Flame Tree and a great beach view at Sails Restaurant ) and other island attractions e.g Te Vara Nui Village - highly recommended cultural show and dinner.

Overall, all staff including Kura and Robin were friendly and accommodating. Great location at an affordable price with well appointed and clean facilities and supplied with fresh fruit which was amazing. Our children spent many hours at the lagoon edge exploring, catching hermit crabs, spotting fish/seaslugs and gathering coconuts for the kind gardener to open. We met some wonderful people staying at Kuras and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Would definitely stay here again - Thanks Kura and Robin.

My husband, me, Daughter and her 8 year old stayed 9 peaceful nights 26 July/04 Aug 13 in Family Unit 6. Was clean, private, handy to everything I needed. Large bowl of fruit in room for us and plenty of tea/coffee. Room was serviced daily except Sundays and when we didn't require service. Lagoon was just right for our Moko (Grandchild)to splash around in. Didn't use the BBQ as the cylinder couldn't be turned on. Didn't tell the owners at the time, didn't want to be annoying then forgot to so it could be fixed for other guests, sorry.

Hosts and cleaning staff were very friendly. On arriving in Raro the host Robin was there to meet and greet us and promptly organised us into the van and gave a few running commentaries on our way to Kuras Kabanas which was a nice added touch.

If you want to be a tourist without the bother of lots of other tourist around you, then this is the place to go. We travelled over as a family group of 20. The others stayed at two other places which were flash I suppose but didn't compare to Kuras for the views or tranquility.

If your a light sleeper, the top units might not be for you as you could hear the scooters etc zapping past thru the night. The noise on the first night I could hear was only the waves down further but I got used to it.Only nuisance thing was the way the main entrance screen doors opened onto the units nextdoor and vice versa. Animals didn't bother us at all.
Would recommend Kuras Kabanas anytime to everyone.
