We spent 5 days at the Muri Beach Resort including New Year Eve. The location on Muri Beach lagoon is among the best on the island, never crowded, clean and my 13 year old son particularly enjoyed the free use of kayaks to paddle around the lagoon, visit the islands and go snorkelling.
Doreen at reception was very helpful and Toby, the groundsman only too willing to hook down some coconuts and open them up for us. Paw Paws and bananas grow all around the resort gardens which you are free to pick. Rarotonga is one of the most chilled and laid back places I have ever visited. The islanders are really friendly, there is no hassle, no pressure to buy and the New Years eve party on the beach at the sailing club with fireworks let off from a rowing boat in the lagoon was fabulous.

All we wanted in a holiday was here, beach, snorkling, kayaks, pool, and clean, self contained, stand alone units, with barbeques on site, as going out was a little expensive. Staff were excellant.
Will be back for our next holiday.

  • Liked — clean and self contained
  • Disliked — People checking in at 1am, noisy and ready to explore, but I guess you would get this anywhere with the flights arriving during the night

In October 2008, five of us women from Australia, New Zealand and USA had a fabulous reunion in the Cook Islands.
Special thanks to all the staff! They were so friendly and eager to help us with tips and suggestions, i.e. directions, tours, car rental, etc. We loved the snorkeling and kayaking right out in front with a beautiful little island to swim to. Also enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, cooking on the bar-b-que and watching gorgeous sunsets.
We bought lovely flower leis to wear on our heads and even wore them to church services on Sunday. A special highlight was being invited after the services to share tea and snacks with them and hear about their history & culture.
It was a fantastic week!

We stayed here for 5 nights after deciding to leave the nearby Vara's which was decidedly unpleasant. The Muri Beach Resort was simply fantastic: a nice quiet resort with (I think) 12 standalone apartments, a nice pool and barbecue area, lovely grounds, location right on the edge of Muri Beach, free use of kayaks and snorkelling equipment, free bananas fresh from the trees, free games hire, a book and DVD library plus great staff and owners.

If we're ever lucky enough to return to Rarotonga this is where we'd go, no question. The staff and owners are really helpful and friendly and they even gave us a lift into town on a couple of occasions. There are a few shops nearby which have enough basic supplies on offer to keep you going plus there are car and moped hire places nearby (though you can hire mopeds from the resort itself).

I couldn't rate this place highly enough. If you want a chilled out, quiet, relaxing holiday on one of the nicest beaches you can hope for then the Muri Beach Resort is the one for you. You won't regret it!

  • Liked — Cleanliness of the apartment
  • Disliked — Air con struggled in the heat!

My boyfriend and I loved staying at this resort. It is a small, quiet resort which was ideal for us - we wanted the opportunity of having the pool to ourselves occasionally etc. The location was great - we used the free kayaks around the lagoon and there is a great spot for swimming 200m down the lagoon. The resort staff were very helpful and friendly. The caretaker even chopped coconuts off trees for us! We visited other resorts ie rarotongan and edge water, pacific resort and we weren't that impressed with the larger resorts - very crowded, open and busy. If we were to stay in Rarotonga again we would either stay at Muri Beach resort or the Pacific Beach resort.
The only downside was the airport transfers. I recommend booking your own through a taxi or other means. The resort contracts out this service and it is not reliable. We were very late for our departing flight as the person forgot to collect us! Not a very nice way to end your holiday.

We really enjoyed staying at the Muri Beach Resort... we were after a clean, inexpensive place to stay in Muri beach and this place over delivered on our expectations. The villas are very popular with young families and it is easy to see why. Muri Beach Resort kind of reminded me of when we used to stay at campsites over the summer in Australia. Everyone is really friendly, the villas a basic but clean and have a few nice extras - like the double spa baths! There is a nice pool and grassed area which kept the kids endlessly entertained, a communal BBQ and direct access to Muri Beach.

For us, we really only used the resort as a base and spent our entire time out. The Pacific resort is really close so we ended up spending most of our afternoons there - playing scrabble at the bar. The Sailing club, Flame Tree Cafe and a number of other good restaurants are within walking distance (which is why we wanted to stay in Muri as we had no intention of doing any cooking!). Deli-licious is about 2 mins away and offers really tasty breakfasts and yummy sandwiches for lunch.

Hiring a car is also really worthwhile as the beaches in other parts of the island are much more beautiful. The public bus is a good alternative but you need to have time on your side...

The resort only has about 12 or so villas. There are two absolute beachfront apartments and then a few down the side. The upstairs apartment looked quite nice but I felt that you didn't need to spend the extra $$$ for it. I'd recommend the poolside villa. The resort has an office which had snorkel equipment, videos for hire and some basic food. They will also book you dinner/tour/spa appointments and are really friendly. If you don't mind children (or you have them) and you want a nice, friendly place to stay, this is definitely the place for you.

Overall Muri Beach is a good central location with a number of good restaurants within easy walking distance.

Our first time in Rarotonga. We canvassed our friends to ask them what to expect and then booked on the internet. We have had an incredible time here. Muri Beach Resort is right on the beach and you can walk along both ways. The restaurants along Muri Beach are great to eat in. You can walk home along the beachfront.
From the time we arrived on a windy quiet Sunday all the staff at Muri Beach Resort have made our holiday one to be remembered. From our first emails of inquiry then meeting them we have made some good friends. Toby even showed me how to cook green bananas with coconut milk. We will definitely be back one day. The units are great, and having a kitchen to prepare food is good with a family. There is a lovely sheltered barbeque area to eat in. We had an awesome time. Thank you
