Stayed here in April for our honeymoon. Had a great time!

Location: The Hotel is situated right on the beach of Muri lagoon. The lagoon is crystal clear and one of the best places in rarotonga to snorkel. The Hotel is about 10 mins drive from the airport.

Staff: We found the staff generally friendly and helpful.

The Room: The room we had was spotlessly clean( and cleaned daily) The room was a beachfront room and the view was spectacular to say the least. Rooms were spacious but not overly big. Shower was nice and big, and had great pressure. Room had all the basic features of a hotel ( fridge, kettle, tv, safe etc) Bed was very soft and comfortable. Air conditioning had individual controls and worked well. Noise wasn't an issue in the entire time we stayed.

The Grounds: Grounds of the hotel were excellent and well kept. The pool was nice however there were a few broken tiles that needed fixing.

The food and drink: The food was nice, but nothing overly impressive. We preferred to eat elsewhere at the various restaurants along the beach. Drinks were great! particularly recommend the snickers/peanut butter cocktails!

Scooter hire: Scooter hire was reasonably priced and scooters were in good working order. We hired one for three days. You can ride all the way around the island in about 45 mins! The staff were helpful in providing us with a temp licence.

The hotel was also happy to organise outings etc. Highly recommend the glass bottom boat tour (captain tamas). Also, take a drive out to the island waterfall.

Room Tip: A beachfront room on the second story is great for relaxing on the balcony with spectacular views.

We stayed in a Premier Garden room and found it to be excellent. Having two queen beds was a bonus. The service was always friendly and helpful, especially from Raj, Pauline and the team in the restaurant. We found the food to be excellent, with the Polynesian night being the highlight. It was a little awkward to see the show without standing up and moving around as our table was at the back, but it is a small space to have this type of show in. The swimming pool was wonderful, did change colour a couple of times but the staff soon remedied that. My wife used the spa services a few times and found them to be excellent also. Hayley took a group further down the lagoon to do snorkelling and feed the Giant Trevally and the Moray Eel. A lot of fun. All in all our stay in MBCH was very enjoyable and we would have no hesitation in staying there again.
We stayed for 7 days from 11 to 18 July.

The hotel is located right on the lovely Muri beach. Beautiful scenery and a nice sandy beach. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to ensure that we had a pleasant stay. Erika the manager went out of her way to get to know the guests, and provided excellent advice and tips about activities and local amenities.
There are lots of opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking and paddle-boarding, all with equipment supplied by the hotel. I would highly recommend the Thursday afternoon guided snorkeling trip, we went with Hayley who took us an an area teeming with fish, and even got to see Charly the Moray Eel.
The room was clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet had good variety and quality. The lunch and dinner menu was reasonably priced with some fabulous Polynesian dishes. The cocktails are also cheap and very tasty. We were really looked after by Raj and Jone in the restaurant. The Wednesday evening buffet with the Akirata dance group was another highlight.
The spa treatments were also reasonably priced and very relaxing.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return.

First of all I'm sorry this review is late, we stayed here last December and I have only just got around to updating my reviews.

However, this hotel is so memorable that I haven't forgotten a second of my stay, the staff are fantastic, really friendly, I've never felt as welcome anywhere as I did here. Our room was clean comfortable and cool, everything you need while staying on these fantastic islands.

After a hectic week touring New Zealand, this was the perfect wind down, a week of island life at island pace, the staff were very helpful with everything we wanted to do, even helping find a hire car in the middle of the busiest week on the island - the Vaca - not that you need a hire car, but we were feeling lazy...

We had dinner at a couple of the other hotels while we were here and while some were more glamorous and looked smarter than the Muri beach I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: They all looked good, but I would always go for one on the ground floor

The Muri Beach Club Resort is on a nice stretch of beach with a lovely view of the small islands which are within a short paddling distance from it. The hotel is located right beside a public beach and rugby field, so the locals use the beach in front of the hotel. Our room on the second floor was spacious and clean. The water in the taps, at times ran very hot, so be careful. The buffet breakfast was included and adequate. Dinners were variable in terms of quality. However, we did have one meal of ribs which was gigantic and tasty. We were given a free Lover's Lunch which was delicious. All of the staff was friendly and helpful, especially Brian at the front desk and Raj in the restaurant. We had a lot of trouble getting our telephone to work long distance but they did eventually solve the problem and finally got it working after two days.
The pool was large and had a clever layout, however, the chaise lounges were grungy and in need of repair both at the pool and on the beach. The beach area could have used a beach boy to help with the lounges and the kayaks. I participated in some yoga classes which were offered upstairs. They were very good and most appreciated. The hotel shop seems disorganized and needs a better selection of sundries. We were able to rent a good automatic car from the hotel at a reasonable rate. All in all we were very satisfied with our stay at this hotel and would recommend others to give it a try.

Room Tip: Definitely pick an upstairs room facing the beach

Not a four or five star hotel so just prepare yourself for that. After our last hotel stay at Qualia this was a huge bummer, but it provided us a place to sleep and a nice view of the water and all the motus. The front desk is somewhat friendly (though cheeky and unprofessional at times) but definitely rough around the edges and not really trained in customer service. The facilities are old and dated and the rooms were never fully cleaned to the standards I have seen in most hotels I have stayed at. Internet is overpriced as is food and drinks and the beach chairs are definitely in need of replacing. Toiletries are pretty generic, so don't make the mistake I did, definitely bring your own. There are only two TV channels but we were lucky to be able to watch World Cup on one of them. Free kayaks and snorkel gear but you probably want to bring your own snorkel gear since nothing here seems super clean and sanitary.

The saving grace here is the location and the views. We enjoyed waking up each morning to the amazing view, but that is it. Go here with very low expectations and just enjoy the outdoors and the location. Otherwise if you expect more you will be disappointed.

Thank you for preparing your written feedback regarding your stay at the Muri Beach Club Hotel. We naturally celebrate positive commentary, but nonetheless we also sincerely appreciate constructive criticism from our Guests who have ‘fresh eyes’ and can therefore provide feedback on the reality of staying with us, at any point in time. Although every effort goes into the quality of product and service, we continually strive to make our standards of service a little better each day.

We are currently carrying out a series of in-house customer relations training programmes throughout the Hotel, and one of the areas of specific attention and maverick change is in the style of ‘intuitive service’. This is a very modern style that requires more interaction between our Guests and staff, in an attempt to get to know them better, and thereby ‘customise’ the experience they have with us. The Pacific Island people are naturally very shy, cheerful, generous people, and are more often than not taught that direct eye-contact with guests may be viewed as a form of disrespect. The intuitive service style is therefore challenging to them. On the other hand however, we concede it is important to retain that respectful fine line between Guest and staff member – whereby the staff member is friendly and engaging, whilst at the same time taking care as not to come across as being marginally familiar or as you seem to have identified ‘cheeky and unprofessional’. We respectfully apologise that this seems to have been your experience.

As you may have noticed by the existence of brand new furniture in the Restaurant, around the pool area and the rooms – the Hotel is in the process of replacing all the furniture. We are currently in the process of unpacking our last containers of outside lounge chairs – it is with regret you were not here to experience these as well.

With regards to the TV channels – there is actually only one station available in the Cook Islands. This does carry news bulletins from NZ and Australia, as well as the occasional International Event – as long as it occurs at a time that the local station is prepared to relay same through. It is regrettably the size of the local population and the relatively very high cost factors of streaming more international channels through, that will continue to determine the limited coverage here. To augment this lack of viewing choice, we provide 3 additional 24 hour in-house movie channels. Moving forward, we cannot imagine that the Cook Islands will ever have the number of viewing channels enjoyed in NZ, Aus and other first-world countries – however, we remain hopeful that our beautiful Island, tropical climate and delightful people will succeed in seducing our Guests to stray from their television sets to provide themselves with the opportunity to enjoy the many natural environmental luxuries that we have right here on our doorstep – free from traffic jams, road-rage, violent crime and the ever spinning hamster wheel of more modern societies.

The cost of internet is indeed ridiculously expensive, and although we are informed by local government that this matter is being addressed, we fear that the continued lack of competition in terms of internet providers [there is currently only one] – will likely inhibit this changing in the near future.

The matter of your finding the snorkel gear to be less than perfectly clean has been addressed with the Head of Department concerned. We apologise for this lack of attention.
Our range of toiletries may seem somewhat limited ie. shampoo, conditioner, soap [block and shower] as well as body cream – however, we do prefer to use only eco-friendly products – rather than supply a larger range of products that may not be absolutely necessary, and / or are also not eco-friendly.

Thank you once again for your candid report, and we look forward to welcoming you back to our little slice of Heaven, in the not too distant future.
