“Full of history and well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

A flat marshland which then opens onto a varied coastline, this area is full of history from the various churches, the ancient drainage system to Dungeness and the old power station. Prior to World War II, experiments to detect enemy aircraft with huge concrete acoustic mirrors were conducted at Greatstone.
The wonders of nature around every corner for example did you know the River Rother today flows into the sea below Rye; but until 1287 its mouth lay between Romney and Lydd, or that the Romney Marsh sheep has become one of the most successful and important breeds of sheep. Romney sheep have been exported globally, in particular to Australia, to where they were first exported in 1872.

“Not dramatic, but bags of beauty and interest.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2014

By definition flat, it might seem not worth a visit. This is far from true. The marshes have lovely drives and walks through an ancient drainage system of dykes. The churches are beautiful. The coastline is lovely and the sands at Dymchurch on a sunny day are a delight.

“My favourite Church out of all the churches in New Romney.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014

This wonderful Fair field church is a must to be seen. You get in touch with the tourist information at New Romney village and they will give you a list of the churches were you can collect the keys from. This place is so peaceful you have to visit to understand. The inside of it is wonderful. One time when we went to visit it was decorated for a wedding next day.It is quite a stroll to get there but it is worth it.The farmer has his sheep in that field. It is fascinating watching him round his sheep up.It has so much history as has all the other churches but this is the one i say it is a must to go and see it.

“Railway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 March 2014

While we were staying at Romney sands park, we were so pleased that the Romney,Hythe and Dymchurch railway went right through it, there was even a station there. A ride on this wonderful train is an absolute must for everyone, a truly unique and enjoyable experience.
If one is interested in birds and other wildlife , the Romney marsh is a fantastic place to visit, one cannot explore it adequately in a couple of weeks, much longer is required.

“Great for the churches, particularly St Thomas Beckett at Fairfield”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

The Marsh is a great place to drive over, and the churches are well worth a visit. In particular, check out the St Thomas Beckett church in Farfield. Take sensible footwear as you have to across a filed to get there. The key to get in the church is available locally, ask a local how to get it as it's not that well indicated. It's the church they used in the BBC "Great Expectations" a couple of hers ago if it seems a little familiar
