Didn't stay in the hotel as we were staying at a friends bach but spent New Years Eve and had a great time. Also had several other meals on different days - the food was great - generous sizes and very enjoyable - the service was excellent. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming - overall a great place!

We checked into the dorm room..me always going for budget..5 of us and then realised that for another $20 or so we could have a cottage..with large bathroom, lounge, sofas, table and comfy bed...looked so fab...
The place was buzzing with many locals coming to dinners at the restaurant and to drink at the bar..all very friendly.
We like to give our hard earned cash back to these small remote communties so used Dave from Karamea Transport to take us back to Nelson..He is wonderful and gave us heaps of local history and a tour of Westport on the way..

Room Tip: Go for the cottages if there is a group of you...

We stayed here after mountain biking the Heaphy. For 5 guys staying in a dorm it was excellent: clean and simple. The bar was great and the meals huge. I wouldnt say they were urban sophisticated meals but good food and huge portions. The hosts were excellent and this really is a great place to stay after exploring the mountains.

I spent the last weekend at the Last Resort, the first visit for five or six years. Back then the service was atrocious, so I was a bit hesitant. I needn't have worried: the new owners are trying really hard and appear to have made a big difference. Small issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently, the food was good and reasonably priced, and the (budget) room was fine.

The presence of lots of locals in the bar to watch the All Blacks beat Australia added to the experience.

We have stayed as a couple and my husband has stayed a few time for pick up for the Heaphy Shuttle. The rooms are clean and large enough for last minute preparations to tramp.
The coffee and food are excellent. The reception staff can be very helpful though on occasion a little busy. The site as a whole is charming and for more than a "stopover" as we have done, would be a pretty and relaxing place to stay without being cut of from shops and other tourist attractions.

Simply a great place full of character charm, spacious very clean rooms with nice modern bathroom in the studio unit my son an i were in. Superb friendly as service which left me feeling like Ed & Tania the owners were old friends. Well the food was really good, like out of some flash as Auckland Cafe but of course the served amazing west coast white bait, Mmmmm. Walking the Heaphy Track or just need a break? The Last Resort is a must stay location.
