Beachfront Farmstay B&B

My husband and I were looking for rest and relaxation after a busy year and this B&B definitely provided it. We were extremely impressed by the care and attention from Russel and Dianne. They were very welcoming hosts and did lots of extra touches to make your stay the best, such as home baking placed in your room with the latest magazines. The location is very peaceful, my husband and I went for walks on the beach across the road and had a spa one night under the masses of stars. The breakfast was the most lavish we have ever had and all food from their garden and farm. We also experienced a delicious dinner which was lamb, venison and fish freshly caught when Russel took out guests for a fish. You won't be disappointed from this accommodation!

I really enjoyed my stay here. The bed was really comfy, lovely warm room with views out over the country side. They were excellent hosts very friendly and welcoming. I had the best shortbread ever and breakfast was excellent leaving me well set up for the rest of the day.
Its nice and quiet with farm life going on around. The perfect place to spend a couple of nights while exploring Karamea.

My Mum and I stayed with Dianne and Russell for two nights as part of our West Coast adventure. Mum wanted something different from the usual motel/hotel accommodation experience, and staying here did not disappoint! The accommodation was homely and the food wonderful. Dianne's love of cooking showed in her food, and the amazing breakfast set you up for a day of exploring (you wouldn't find a breakfast like it in a top hotel anywhere!). The location was excellent for exploring the Karamea area including the Heaphy Track and the Oparara Arches. We would recommend the Beachfront Farmstay to anyone looking for a great experience, excellent hospitality, local knowledge and 5 star food.

This was a comfortable stay and a memorable experience. I'm not always up for a B&B stay, just to lend some perspective. But we were so glad we chose this spot to spend a couple of nights while exploring the area's worthwhile sights. Karamea itself, by the way, is a sleepy town, not in a lovely quaint way, but rather, somewhat devoid of charm. Looking around for a lunch spot, our impression was that the town has not much to offer in terms of either food or atmosphere. Which only made Dianne and Russell's farm and home all the more welcoming. The accommodations are attached to the main house, but also have fully private entrances and parking. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and our hosts couldn't have been more gracious. Dianne is a wonderful cook, we highly recommend having her prepare dinner for you if you have the option. Both our dinner and breakfast were made from freshly harvested vegetables, locally caught fish that very day, dairy products from their own cows and fresh eggs from a neighboring farm. Generous portions, lovingly and expertly prepared with fresh herbs from the garden, and dinner served with a selection of New Zealand wines. We also got a fascinating insight into the family farming life in New Zealand. We are so glad we ventured up the west coast to the 'end of the road,' and very happy we got to stay on Dianne and Russell's farm.

Russell and Dianne don't offer the usual experience. This is a working farm with terrific hosts and food, a wonderful setting and hospitality and a room that is an A. Dianne is a master cook using only local fresh items, many from her garden. How long since you've had ice cream made from cows you are looking at? Russell was born here. Karamea is a gateway to some wonderful exploring and coastline. It is definitely worth going out of your way to this unique area of New Zealand. We will be back!

Located off the beaten track in Karamea, NZ, Russell and Diane Anderson heaped friendly , family hospitality upon us on their 700 cow dairy farm. The well appointed and tastefully furnished room supplied with a King sized bed had the best mattress ever. Our room although attached to the large airy farmhouse, was private, It had its own lovely porch overlooking large hedges of flowers lining the drive to our private entrance. Across from this was a small pasture with the sea beyond. Diane, an excellent cook, presented us with gourmet breakfasts that looked as beautiful as they tasted. Russell was a genial and knowledgeable host who found time in his ongoing busy life as an active farmer to sit and chat. We were welcomed into their home and sat around their huge dining table and easily talked with them, their friends, and family. His family has been in Karamea over 100 years. They both have a commitment to farming, the land and their community. We would stay there again. The area is remote, rugged, beautiful ,and well worth the drive in from Westport. Thanks Russell and Diane for the gracious hospitality. They are extremely nice people. Paul and Susan Wagenhofer currently of Wellington, NZ

Dianne and Russell are so friendly and go out of their way to welcome you so it's impossible not to wish you had booked for 'one more night' here. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and private and the hospitality is second to none. Dianne's cooking is the best in New Zealand, not good for the diet but great for the weary traveller who wants a few home comforts at the end of a long trip! I can't recommend these guys highly enough, go and stay with them and tell you friends!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms so you get a real personal stay. Either are lovely.
