John & Carolyn the best couple we have every seen and we was blown with their hosting they gave to us. I don't want wright to BIG easy on them. Just want to say in simple - If you want to spend your weekend the best memorable stay with them.

Room Tip: They have 2 rooms, select any of them both are excellent

Outdoors is in: when you walk in the house you’re astounded by the airy common room’s view of the lake. You can sit inside and admire the birds at the feeders, sit on the back porch swing while sipping a beverage, sit by the lake for a close-up view of water birds, or sit on the front porch to glimpse sandhill cranes, deer, and possibly foxes.

If you prefer indoor activities, the common area has loads of books, a gas fireplace, and a large TV. The Lake Breeze room is comfy, especially the heated bathroom floor. And breakfast is completely delicious.

I’ve saved the best for last. If ever people were born to run a B&B, John and Carolyn are them. They are gracious, helpful, and entertaining. And they have an Old English sheepdog who will be more than happy to visit with you too.

Opportunities to socialize abound at B&Bs, so I do have one caution: If you want absolute privacy and silence, this might not be the best place for you if both bedrooms are occupied.

I can't recommend this B&B enough! As everyone else has already mentioned the accommodation, breakfast and location are all incredible but what really makes this B&B unique is its hosts. I had such a wonderful time meeting John and Carolyn (and of course Rufus, their dog) who are friendly, knowledgable and just plain lovely. I look forward to visiting again, soon.

John and Carolyn deserve all the accolades they receive for this outstanding b&b. The accommodation is extremely comfortable, the breakfasts are delicious and the surroundings are beautiful. However what makes it really special is the warmth and friendliness of the hosts who have the gift for making one feel instantly at home. To make our happiness complete they even arranged a showing of the Northern Lights!

My wife and I stayed at Solitudes in August. The house is lovely and the hospitality is great. Carolyn's breakfasts are gourmet meals.

The house is new and the guest rooms are perfect. The name is perfect as the house is on a farm and a lake.

Manitoulin Island is also an interesting place as it is a mix of Ontario cottage country and southwestern Ontario. A great place to spend some quiet time.

My stay at the Solitudes B&B was wonderful. Carolyn and John, the hosts, are happy, friendly and above all very funny people. They took me to see all the wonderful sights the island has to offer for example water falls, hiking trails and the Native outposts. If one just plans to relax the lake is the best place to take a break. In the summer time you can go swimming or canoeing. The lake has a beautiful wildlife. I saw beavers, eagles and all kind of birds.
The house was built to host guests. And Rufus their dog is a very friendly and welcoming. The cooking is wonderful (I recommend the pancakes) and staying there is letting time fly by. I miss this place and I promise to come back!
Linus

Room Tip: Both Rooms are pretty much the same. One is animal friendly.

Thank you so much, John and Carolyn and Rufus, for making our Manitoulin Island getaway such a treat. Your advice on things to do, places to go and where to eat made it easy for us to plan our days' activities. You have such a wonderful, peaceful place that you obviously love and we felt right at home immediately. The bonus was the Aurora Borealis in the "dark night sky" that you arranged one night. The breakfasts were delicious and gave us lots of energy for hiking and biking.
