I have been lucky enough to be working in Mauritius for 2 years. As a golfer, I have stayed in many hotels and villas with golf courses all over the island. This was our first trip to Lakaz behind one of my favourite- restaurants- Chamarel restaurant. We had been recommended by some close friends. We treated ourselves to a suite- which was well worth it, your own private pool. The accommodation and the location is stunning, so peaceful, so relaxing, a great feeling of space and privacy.
However we would not return and would not recommend further simply due to the service and the food. There was no welcome, we were given the Lakaz information to read, usually someone would talk you through how the place worked, where things are, timings etc. We stayed 2 nights and our package included dinner and breakfast.
As a couple of foodies both dinners were disappointing, - chicken sausages in the soup, tinned mushrooms in the main, we were asked how we would like our tuna, "rare", it came well done. We decided to give up and move to a la carte menu at extra cost, our plates were taken away, with no question as to why. We enjoy having a little banter with our waiter/waitress but they were not friendly. You got the feeling they did not enjoy their job and we were an inconvenience. When settling the bill they were going through the routine and were not genuinely interested in our feedback.
The location is breath taking but they need to up their game with the service and the food.

After a very long flight from Paris and about 1 hour by car from the airport, we finally arrived at Lakaz Chamarel lodge. Despite the very bad weather and a lot of wind, the first feeling was that we came to a small paradise. This very little resort in african style is like a gem in the middle of a huge tropical garden full of flowers, trees, multicolor birds!
Located at 300m high and not far from the ocean, the domain has a different temperature compared to the sea level, less warm but pleasant in this season.
I use to travel a lot all over the world but this is really the first time that I got a so warm welcome from the staff of an hotel. It's was just unbelievable!! ..and this was the same during all our stay.
I take this opportunity to thank all the people and especially Waren & Peggy who made their best to give us a wonderful stay (we were a group of 16...)
With an upgade in a suite with private pool... How could we be better ?
A cosy bungalow nestled in a luxuriant vegetation with a terrace and an open air shower, this ambiance was like in a movie.
Located in the south west part of the island, don't miss the rhumery of Chamarel, waterfall, Casela nature park, Rochester falls, Chamarel colored earth, Grand Bassin, Le Morne, Black river gorges, aso...
We moved by taxi or small bus with the organisation of the hotel for a cheap price, don't hesitate to ask Peggy to assist you!
Breakfast was taken in the main lodge where you could find a TV, library, a small bar and WIFI connection.
Finally, a too short stay when seeing my pictures and to make a long story short : amazing, excellent, fabulous and unforgetable!

Room Tip: Try to get an upgrade with private pool...

I have been there twice already within less than a year. My idea of heaven - peace, beauty, one with Nature... Showering under the sun, rain, stars and rainbow... Beautiful walks (mosquito repellents, a must), heavenly views (don't miss the sunset) and little surprises around each corner... Good food and good service by a wonderful staff headed by Warren. This place has been designed with passion. Congratulations

Room Tip: I have been to Lakaz Tropical and the Tambalacoque villas, each in a different category and each wit...

We spent a week at this hotel and, despite the relatively remote location, we were never bored in any way with the experience it offered. In fact, the remote location is a bonus because you are not crowded in by people and the lodges are impeccably landscaped to provide a completely private environment. The gardens in general are inexhaustible in the variety of vegetation and birdlife and the Head Gardener, the marvellous Jean-Jacques, will willingly take you round and explain the history of the property. Protection against mosquitoes is provided in the rooms and immediately outside, but even there, and in the grounds and restaurant, it is wise to use repellent. No hassle here, after all this is the tropics. The outside shower is a delight. The restaurant food is very good. Above all, the staff and management are impeccable in their service, with a special mention for Warren and Peggy, who are prepared to organise taxis, trips etc in the area, and who provide a happy atmosphere. Even the rain in February is quite spectacular. Overall, an excellent introduction to non-beach Mauritius.

Room Tip: The choice of room will depend on price but there are no disappointments.
