Simply the best. I had a dream and it came true. I will definitely go back again and reccomend it for a special treat. Luxury in a friendly way. Loved the outdoor shower at night under the stars! The staff took special care of us and we enjoyed every single moment.

We booked for 2 nights in this place a seaview pool suite, coming in from 20 degrees Sud, we expected a same high standard, certainly knowing that this place was even a little more expensive ..

Upon arrival we were immediately amazed by the size and the look of the gardens at the lodge, really very nice, friendly welcome and a golf cart took us up to our room ( we did it all the other trips on foot, quite a stroll up) . The room was big with an amazing view, nice terrrace, plunge pool (brrr cold..) and an outdoor shower (no indoor shower, neither bathtub), so can be cold on windy days.

We stayed on halfboard, there is no option with the booking, on our first evening we came back from dinner very disappointed. Although the setting has all to make it very romantic and wonderful, it didn't feel like that . Upon arrival we already quickly had taken a look at the lunch menu, which looked tempting, so hope was there, although in vain : we got a set dinner choice with two options for starter and main, the proposed main dishes were not what we had in mind so we tried to order something from the à la carte menu (which was on another sheet in the menu), try to imagine following discussion :

- 'hi, I would like to order something from the à la carte menu'
- junior waiter : 'no problem, you'll just have to pay extra'
- 'understand, no problem, how much do we need to pay extra ?'
- junior waiter : 'the full price as mentioned in the menu'
- 'euh, you mean, we pay on top of our half board the full price and not just an extra?'
- junior waiter : 'yes, indeed'
-' can you please check with your colleague , as this doesn't seem right to us'
- senior waiter : 'you indeed need to pay full price on top'
- 'why, it still doesn't feel right, can you check with your manager'
- manager : 'if you want à la carte, you need to pay extra'
- 'ok, no problem, but not the full price we suppose ?'
- manager : 'no, indeed just an extra'
- 'ok fine, we would like to order....'
- manager : 'you can't order today à la carte !'
- 'why, I got the à la carte menu from the waiter ?'
- manager : 'we're just in process of changing the menu, so no à la carte available'
- 'hmmm'
- manager : 'but if you order now we can do something from the à la carte for tomorrow'

so we ordered something for the day after (the manager explained us the menu for tomorrow : chicken or fish, which was as we heard from other guests on the menu the past 3 days), back to our food of the evening : a salad or soup to start, basic but ok, afterwards chicken or fish, I took the chicken and got a (1) tiny chicken wing and plenty of dry rice, dessert something with coco..
We (as did other guests) explained our issue with the food to the manager, he would do his best for the next evening.

The next evening we went for dinner and we had a waiter showing us the menu and .. it had changed : beef or fish (when asking the manager he said having changed the chicken for beef because of comments of other guests..), great but I had to order the day before another dish because of the chicken.. incredible !

So we were stuck with my dish (porc) and it was not even the best porc, they put anise in it, something you have to really like.. We didn't eat much of it, starters were not smashing either and the dessert was first grade school something with coco again.. Hoping to drink it away with some good wine was also in vain, most of the bottles we tried to order from the menu where out of stock ..We finally left unhappy and hungry (and gave again our opinion to the manager), we felt lucky at time that our booking was only for 2 nights..

Breakfast was neither a big event, and we saw birds picking stuff from the buffet, staff looked at it and didn't do a thing (they even left it like it was, with clear birdmarks in the food ...!)

Believe us : don't come here for great food, yes on the environment and yes for the view and yes for the nature, but NOT for any kind of gastronomy, we were seriously wondering together with some other guests if there was even a chef around in the evening (why did we need to pre order, why was there an extensive lunch menu and only just a set menu for the evening ?)

Honestly we felt a bit sad ending our holidays like this, upon check out we told this to the same manager (which in fact seemed to be the F&B manager, the real manager was on holidays) and his comments this time were fair : he told us that indeed the main dish with the chicken the first night was a failure (that they even hesitated to serve it) and agreed with us that the kitchen indeed not was up to the level we paid for .. good to hear, but a bit late for us..

In all NOT what we were expecting and if we give it a 4, then it is just because of the view and nice gardens, certainly not because of us getting good food and real 'value for money'.

We booked after seeing the wonderful pictures and reviews on the hotel website, but expecting some exaggeration. We were thrilled to be upgraded to an exclusive suite with private pool.
Words cannot describe the perfection of our suite. The wooden floor, Bose sound system, outdoor showers, stunning rim-flow pool overlooking the bay, King-size bed with choice of pillows, bath gowns, leather outdoor furniture, romantic lighting - just everything was perfection.

Staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly, food was superb and service was impeccable.
Well done guys . You get a well deserved 5 stars plus! Just wish we had not booked and pre-paid at a chain hotel group at Grand Baai and that we could have stayed longer
If we are to return to Mauritius someday it will be for 7 nights at Lakaz Chamarel.

Room Tip: Take the exclusive suits with pool and sea view

Piton Canot is th best suite in Mauritius. Very relaxing and excellent for a rest far away from any city in Mauritius. Staff excellent! Place beautiful! Bring some shoes for a nice walk on the "domaine". Try the fire in the lobby after a good mauritian diner with a good bottle of wine!

Room Tip: Just relax, eat the sound of the nature and enjoy the vibe! Of course you should go there in couple!

Looking back at our stay we have mixed feelings. We had a wonderful time, really enjoyed the quitness and the green surroundings. However we were not impressed with the food offered. All bookings come with half-board and you may opt-in for full board for approx. 65 euro p/couple. The lunch felt to us as a bare minimum. Our first day we got a small Indian rice dish with sausages and the second day a tiny ham salad. These two lunched were a huge dissappiointment and of low quality. The portions are not big, even though we are used to small portions. The lunch on our third, fourth and fith day however were of good quality (although still small). We were surprised by the difference in service. E.g.: sometimes we were offered bread with lunch, sometimes not. Sometimes we got butter with the bread, sometimes not. And: lunch being served without telling the guests what's on the lunch menu for today. Also watched: mistakes made with the food for another guest who had dietery restrictions. The mistakes were made repetively to this lady. Diner was of better quality. Every evening a choice of two starters and two mains and a desert. But also: small portions. The massages where of high quality, I would definitely recommand the massages. Yoga however was not on a daily basis, but upon request only. And since the yoga lady is also the one doing the spa and massages, it can be difficult to book a spot. Service was always given with a smile, but sometimes seem to lack experience. Taking a long time to get a morning tea. Ants on bread during breakfast. We noticed a huge inconsistancy, which, when improved, would definitely benefit the guest experience in this resort. Wifi was available in the room, ok, but not very fast. Available in the bar, but not in the restaurant, which can be a deliberate choice, but we never managed to discover if this was the case. We can see potential in this beautiful resort when there's a bit more attention for the customer service and food.

Room Tip: If you can affort: book a suite/villa with private pool, We were very lucky to have been granted the garden suite next to the main building next to the pond. Some other suits/villa's are more uphill (might require a steep climb)
