“A relaxing enclave close to everything”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

My husband, 15 year old nephew and I just returned from a four day stay at the Quinta and loved it. Penny and Tony have restored the manor house and barn to create a lovely, quiet and comfortable setting. The beds are comfortable with high quality linens and pillows. The rooms are quiet, clean and contain all that one needs. It is easy to reach all of the major attractions and the hosts have information on all of them. They also recommend restaurants and provide maps and instructions for transportation, stores, and walks. The breakfast is a choice of breads, homemade jams, fruit, yogurt, meat, cheese, cereal, juices, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and sweets. An added touch is a welcome bottle of wine, a fridge stocked with milk, pop, beer and fresh fruit. It was so nice to receive these items without the standard overpriced mini fridge charge!! We stayed in a hotel, two pousadas and the Quinta and liked the Quinta the best. It was like having our own resort with none of the work. We enjoyed the pool, lounge chairs, lounge mats and umbrellas. They also have a guest kitchen with two high speed cooking elements, a microwave and dishes. We did avail ourselves of it for dinner one night. The local grocery store has everything you need to cook your our meal. I highly recommend Qunita do Scoto. You will be very pleased.

Room Tip: We stayed in the two bedroom in the main house which was large containing both a shower and huge soa...

The Quinta do Scoto is a fabulous retreat which is located outside the busy rush of Lisbon and Sintra but close enough to experience these wonderful attractions and sights on day trips as the picturesque town of Sintra is so close by. The great thing about the Quinta is that you don't have to use your car in the evenings to go out for dinner as they are in walking distance to some local restaurants. Tony and Penny were great hosts, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Penny provided us with helpful tips of what to see and what would particularly interest our 7 year old son. The morning breakfasts were delicious and we really loved the fresh fruit. The Quinta grounds are beautiful, as well as the terrific pool. We would definitely recommend the Quinta do Scoto to our friends.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Quinta after arriving in Lisbon early on business.
Driving towards this property you just don't know what to expect, but open the gate and a beautiful oasis appears in front of you.
After 16 hours of being in transit, it was so worth the wait. It is situated on 7 hectares of ground, with ancient aqueducts traversing the property.

Warmly greeted by our English hosts was also a surprise. In a country where a lot of people cant understand a word I said, Tony and Penny are full of tips and advise, and I could understand what they were saying.
Tony and Penny are the salt of the earth - Friendly, helpful and extremely patient in getting everything you need for you stay, and helping you along culturally communicated to you to make your visit to Lisbon and surrounds a safe and happy one.

The accommodation is fantastic to say the least. Its clean. Its big, and everything has been thought through by the owners...mini bars...wines...beers.... beers..... beers... pool.... beers - I did not want to leave.... beers...."hic".
If you have kids, this is way better than a hotel. They have chickens, horses, dogs (The last time I saw those at a hotel was in Zimbabwe), acres of ground for them to run off their energy - and no one will mind the noise.
Before setting out on any sight seeing, check in with them, and you will learn about where to go, how to get there, with a range of transport modes suggested to suite your budget. What are the main attractions, and what you should be looking for, and what not.

If you are a tourist, you have to stay at this place. It gives you the opportunity to stay on a 250 year old wine farm, away from the hustle and bustle...and grim of the regularly beaten paths, yet is in walking distance to fantastic local restaurants.
It may appear a little out the way, but don't let that fool you. Everything you will need is perfectly accessible via a range of transport modes, that take at worst 30 minutes.

When I return with my family, I will stay here.

Room Tip: The Adega Cottage is lovely

The Quinta is set in a delightful, semi-rural environment, with its own wild meadows, two horses, a cockerel and his small group of hens, but is only a short, pleasant walk away from the railway station which provides easy transport to Lisbon. In the other direction, the beautiful hill-town of Sintra with its many pleasures is more easily enjoyed without a car.
Your busy hosts, Penny and Tony have the knack of treating you as though you were their special guests and instil a quiet enthusiasm for their adopted location. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable and opens onto the large, salt water pool. Breakfast is varied and unhurried and the area, which is geographically, interestingly complicated, has a good selection of inexpensive restaurants, some within easy walking distance.
We did not have time to follow Tony's recommended local walks this visit. High points included the amazing palace Quinta da Regaleira lunch at Lawrence's Hotel in Sintra, the cove and coastal path at Praia da Adraga and, of course, Lisbon itself.

From the moment we booked a week here we felt looked after. Penny and Tony sent us really helpful and useful information and we began to look forward to our holiday and we felt that they were looking forward to meeting the four of us!
We were welcomed with wine and beer when we arrived and from then on our hosts made sure we had a fantastic holiday without never being intrusive. The apartment was spotless and cleaned every day. There were complimentary drinks in the mini bar; the beds were comfortable; the pool was fantastic andthe breakfasts were delicious and we could have them at anytime we wanted.
Public transport was great and we could have managed without a car, It was the perfect location for two exhausted adults and two of our chlidren, aged 25 and 18.The villa was ideally situated for visiting Lisbon, the coast, many interesting places and it was just outside the wonderful city of Sintra. It also felt as though we were in genuine Portugal and not tourists. We will be back!

Room Tip: All rooms are tastefully decorated, spacious and immaculate.

We arrived at the Quinta close to midnight and we were welcomed by Penny. The Personal touch of Penny and Tony is seen in every aspect at the Quinta. In the morning after breakfast, Tony provided us with information on getting around and few tips of travel and dining around in Lisbon which was very helpful.

We decided to stay at the Quinta solely based on reviews and we have to admit the experience was way better.

Our Interaction with Tony and Penny started weeks before our journey, where we received all the information about the Quinta and getting around. Based on our arrival time, we requested for a taxi to receive us so that we don't spend too much time searching for the hotel at night.

On days we had to leave early, we had a Breakfast basket available at our room, and the room had a complimentary bottle of wine and mini-refrigerator had beer and soft-drinks also complimentary and Hi-Speed WiFi Complimentary

The breakfast was also just perfect, the quality and freshness was perfect, the kids loved it as well.

My Kids (5 yrs & 4 yrs) loved the place and the dogs (dobbie & Izzy), the cockerel and chicken and the horses.
There's a kitchen available downstairs if you require some quick cooking if required.

The Local Restaurant we visited the Adega Tala recommended by Tony was a nice restaurant and a 10 min walk from the Quinta.

We used the trains to travel to Lisbon Center to visit the Zoo, Oceanario de lisboa and other places in Lisbon, we used the 3-day pass to travel.

Overall, a Perfect stay at the Quinta and will recommend it to anyone visiting Lisbon and would still chose the Quinta the next time I am in Lisbon

Room Tip: Travel by Train to Lisbon, Dine at the local restaurants

Read through the last 20 or so reviews and take them at face value. This place is terrific!

All great stays start with the inn keepers and here you have the best.

Breakfast was great and the detailed info on sightseeing was incredibly helpful.

Do consider this your base for the area.
