“Ancient and Modern”

This a beautiful large church with original Norman Architecture and great features from lots of periods, including great modern sculpture. The audio tour has been revised and really good (£5). Staff really helpful and knowledgeable and lots of them. Organ concerts frequent and superb. The 700 year old Chapter House with its wonderful carvings are worth the trip alone.

“worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Plenty of free parking nearby. Building itself is worth seeing but think twice about the audio tour which at £5 is i feel a little steep, especially after i had just made the suggested "donation" in the box on entry ( before enquiring about the audio tour )and despite having the volume on the device turned up fully it was difficult to hear it ( even with it pressed to my ear )as the organ was playing for the majority of our visit
So if you are in the area it is worth seeing but i would not consider it to be a destination choice in isolation

We visited Southwell Minster and wow what a beautiful Building architecture is beautiful, the carvings are amazing from gargoyles to pigs? Inside the Minster the ladies are very helpful and knowledgable, don't be afraid to ask them questions.there is a great WW1 exhibition on display and well worth a visit the pride of the exhibition is a WW1 fully restored New Imperial IAP dispatch motor cycle complete with panniers a fantastic in site into the lives of the soldiers of WW1.
We had a walk around the small town plenty of places to eat and have a coffee. We had a bite to eat in the Newley refurbished cafe in the Minster Grounds. It was very nice and very good quality.

Glad to see some of the schools have been involved. The Exhibition runs until 15th June Mon to Sat 10am till 5pm plus Sundays 12.30pm till 5pm. Free parking available close by.The town has lots of coffee shops and eating places and a visitors centre.
