“Wonderful room and location with a warm welcome”
Reviewed 4 November 2012

We stopped over on the way up North and would like to thank Tim for such hospitality. The room was very spacious, plenty of room to accommodate us, our Labrador and 5 month old, plus luggage without tripping over each other. It was also spotless, nicely furnished with a fabulous bathroom, tv with Freeview, kettle, tea and coffee, mini fridge, spacious wardrobe and patio doors onto garden and terrace. Best if all was the setting, with the room being part of a beautiful beamed barn set at the end of a country lane in glorious countryside. No traffic and only horses, chickens and friendly dogs for company - perfect!

If you have a dog, there's a a fabulous bridleway to walk and Southwell is a characterful village with a nice pub, The Cross Keys, which serves traditional pub favourites and good beer.

We booked The Old Mill Barn as a stopover heading northwards. It's closeish to the A1 and perfect for a look around Southwell. A very spacious room in good order with a friendly welcome and an excellent breakfast of your choice. The Barn is in lovely rural surroundings and a short drive from Upton village and the pub.

We stayed at the Old Mill Barn recently and shared our accommodation with a good friend who was also going to be attending a wedding with us locally. This B&B couldn't be more accommodating if it tried. Tim makes every effort to ensure that your stay with him and his family is perfect and he makes a mean breakfast too. No one will leave this B&B hungry as the choice and quality is all top notch, including homemade jams. It's in a beautiful setting and we can't imagine anyone having any trouble sleeping in such an idyllic place. The rooms offered are of a very high standard and are also very large and the bathroom is fab. They've not skimped on standards in any area of this B&B and we'd not hesitate in using it again if in the area. Tim and Michelle deserve top marks for their lovely B&B and any family would be very happy staying here and having horses and chickens outside certainly adds to the charm of this place and you'll feel very relaxed as soon as you arrive.

I booked the Old Mill Barn for a 1 night stay for myself and husband and 2 night for our friend as we were attending our daughter's wedding in Southwell, being held at the Old Vicarage Boutique Hotel on August 5th.
On arrival we all had a wonderful welcome from Tim, who showed us our lovely, large room with en-suite bathroom. It’s all been beautifully and tastefully decorated and has a lovely ‘feel’ to it.
Tea and coffee’s making facilities were provided should we of wanted them and it was nice to have our own entrance to the B&B and be able to come and go as we pleased without disturbing anyone.
The breakfasts were amazing and the Old Mill Barn was very comfortable for everyone's needs and felt like a home away from home. After a mix up with an over booking with our son at the Old Chaff Barn next door, Tim even included our son to have breakfast with us, as there wasn’t room for him at his B&B and didn’t charge us any extra, which was very much appreciated by us all and we couldn’t thank him enough for his hospitality.
Tim and Michelle are lovely hosts and we’d not hesitate to use their B&B again if in the area and we can easily recommend this B&B to all, as it’s reasonably priced and in a fabulous situation right in the middle of the countryside and we loved having horses and chickens right outside our door as well and all only a few minutes drive from Southwell. Highly recommended and huge thanks to the Spriddell family.

This was one of the most memorable and most beautiful places we have ever stayed. Tim and Michelle made every effort to make us comfortable and welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for these sociable and friendly hosts and they have a beautiful set of rooms with en-suite for their guests. The location is wonderful and the views from The Old Mill Barn are stunning. This accommodation is very well-presented and a pleasure in which to stay. It is set where you can roam free and chill out with its own private entrance so you can come and go as you please. To enjoy the wildlife and take in the fresh-air this country-getaway is perfect - it is an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We went with our young 2yr old and it was great to be able to enjoy our time on holiday knowing that Tim and Michelle understood what would make things easier and enjoyable for us all. They really understand people well.

Room Tip: Both rooms available are beautiful and also comfortable.

A lovely, quiet spot away from all stresses of modern life, this beautiful B&B is run by Michelle & Tim. who were both incredibly friendly & helpful. We were traveling with our six-month old, and they couldn't have been more accommodating. A baby cot was set up with no extra charge, food stored in their fridge, and highchair & toys available at breakfast. We were in the area to attend a wedding, and they helped us with booking the local taxis too. We stayed in a wonderful old beamed double room, with it's own patio outside, and ate a generous and tasty breakfast - the eggs were fresh from their own hens just outside. Great value & highly recommended!

Room Tip: Our sleep quality was to do with our baby waking four times in the night, nothing to do with the B&a...

Michelle ,Tim and little ones are wonderful hosts, making you feel very welcome. The old mill barn is set in beautiful countryside, horses, the odd cow, chickens, cat and lovely little blind dog are part of the extended family. The room has its own entrance and patio, good size room with a stunning ensuite shower room. Tim makes a cracking breakfast. Would definitely stay again.
