“Average hotel, slightly overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

We stayed at Saracens Head hotel on the last weekend of June whilst attending a wedding nearby. We paid £200 for two nights (Friday and Saturday). We didn't realised it was a pub hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small. The TV in our room wasn't working properly. The free WiFi kept getting disconnected. Our room was at the back of the hotel (not facing the main road). So we didn't get the street noise, however we were bothered by the noise coming from the kitchen and the loud ventilation. As it was an old building, we could hear the floor creaking every time someone moved about. The bed was comfy though. Breakfast was a disappointment. Not many vegetarian options. All in all, service was very good, but we thought it was overpriced.

Took 4 Swedish guests to lunch. Simple basic orders. Only 4 other people in bar area. Waited 55minutes for lunch and when arrived the food was cold and the orders incorrect. The staff could not even get a simple drinks order correct.
David Donavon the owner should be ashamed of the service but when the situation explained he was utterly indifferent and showed no concern. Within my hearing he said to his staff member "if they don't like it they can go elsewhere"
Rest assured we will

We were off to a wedding nearby, so chose the Saracen on the grounds that the next nearest couple of places got very poor reviews. It was no great shakes either, sadly. It was £100 for a room for two (room 203), and it was just about passable. The bedroom was quite shabby, the decor awful, though the beds were comfy enough. The bathroom had seen much better days, quite some time ago, with a shower whose main spray only did cold, and secondary spray had to be hand held. What would really help though, especially in summer, would be some aircon; even with a window open, the bedroom was a sweatbox, and as they only provided winter duvets, we had to pull the bottom sheet off each bed, put the duvet on the bottom, and sleep under a single sheet each. And still we had a horribly hot and sweaty night. Breakfast was adequate, though their claim that we would have to have 'ordinary coffee', as they were 'way too busy' to make a latte was a bit of an odd one, especially as there was only one other table seated at the time. I don't think we'll be back, to be honest.

We had our wedding reception held here on sat 28th of June 2014 and we had the honeymoon suite the King Charles suite the night of the wedding and the night after as we're having a late honeymoon. The room is amazing such a comfy bed and the bath wow! We picked this as our venue last year and have dined here all year since and couldn't wait for our family to sample the food on our big day. What can I say? Thank you so much Charlie our co ordinator for your communication and making our dreams come true every request was no trouble and absolutely spot on! Andrew the restaurant manger you was outstanding on the day and the next morning for breakfast thank you so much. Scott, Craig and everyone I've missed out the food was 6 star absolutely stunning not one compliant! The waiting staff and bar staff you are all so professional thank you and the food came round so quick! We had the best day of out lives you made it absolutely perfect thank you all so so much! Can't wait to see you all love Laura and Ashley x

Omg this was so good the hotel is amazing the staff can not do enough for you and the drinks in the bar are a very good price too. We got upgraded to the honeymoon suite so for £65 a room for two and breakfast this was amazing but to be honest the staff made it

Short stay in this old coaching inn. Its quite quaint, but seems stuck in the past, probably reflecting on old glories. Rooms comfortable, but a bit dated, but south well is a pleasant place with a lovely cathedral

Room Tip: If poss one at front for better views

We have stayed at the Saracens Head many times and always enjoy our stays there. It is our preferred hotel for stays anywhere in the Nottingham area. The staff are excellent. The rooms can be eclectic, varying from the truly modern to those of real age and character and the clocks can be an experience. A wonderful hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid room 4 unless you like ghosts!
