“A Total Disgrace To The Hotel Industry”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2012

We stayed at this hotel recently and all we can say is that it was disgusting in every aspect. The staff were all extremely rude, the rooms were not cleaned properly and the food was reminiscent of a third world canteen. We found insects in our meal that complimented nicely with the dirty plates and cutlery that we were given.
We complained but it fell on the deaf ears of the arrogant and rude staff.

Our bedlinen was badly stained and it looked like our sheets had not been changed since the last guests who had used the room.

Avoid at all costs and remember that if you have cause for complaint nothing whatsoever will be done about it as the staff and management appear to simply not care.

Room Tip: In our view you would be better off in a Hostel skip!

I've been in Birmingham 4 days and stayed at this hotel. The deal was insane. We paid for three nights and the second they took to the streets. The reason was a mistake for them (they entered the room without knocking, still sleeping, wake up and take to the streets, mingled with another room, and instead of apologizing, they threw us out). We returned the money of the night that we were not allowed to be or we got the complaint forms. The police in these cases does not come close (/ just phoned them to give us the bags, did not want to give them to us). We wanted to throw the bags into the street. The receptionist Barbie is laughing in our face. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS [--] OS HOTEL. I'll put the allegations and claims it takes, but these do not stay with my money.

Not to mention the carpet was dirty and disgusting, the toilets and stuck full of hair, no hair, or gel. We do not recommend it nor free.

Room Tip: NO vayais a este hotel.

We only stayed here as it was the closest hotel to the LG Arena with reservations left. We booked a twin room and on arrival was told we had two singles, which were complete opposite ends of the hallway. We wasn't happy about this as it wasn't what we'd booked and as two girls having a night out we wanted to be in the same room. We was then told the hotel wasn't allowed to give us anything complimentary to compensate for messing up our order (i.e- free breakfast) so basically we just had to 'deal' with it. Although we did find our own way of being able to stay in the same room (pushing one bed against the wall and running across the hallway with the mattress and bedding from the other room! :) )

It seemed there was only one staff member running the whole hotel/restaurant the time we was there which wasn't very proffesional as we had a long wait if we needed help with anything.

The receptionist also text my personal phone once our reservation was over and we had left the hotel, which again I also thought was very unproffesional.

Obviously to me and my friend we didn't really care about customer service etc, we just needed a place to stay when coming in drunk after a night out and then leave straight away in the morning. But concidering customer service/cleanliness/rooms etc were included in the price, the stay should be valued at about £5 not £50!

I will definitely not be staying here again.

My brother was visiting for the weekend from Boston USA and we were looking forward to revisiting an old haunt as a particular treat. On a positive note the food was first class and the Chateaubriand was cooked to perfection. However the service was appalling...... I have never experienced such a bad attitude in a customer service environment in my life. especially in a restaurant with this reputation, atmosphere, and cost.

Didn't eat there, just stayed. The room would have been okay if it had been about 75% cheaper. One of those places where reasonably sized rooms have been subdivided with what seems like plywood. Bed jammed into corner of room. Grubby walls. Gave breakfast a miss. I could be wrong but the only thing Italian about this place is the name. Wrong hemisphere, IYSWIM.

Room Tip: very cramped, noisy

as soon as we entered we were greeting by polite and professional staff. The food was wonderful, with the accommodation reaching a 5 star level. All in all La Caverna is a well presented establishment well worth looking into. 5 STAR ALL THE WAY.

Arrived with 6 colleagues and despite the restaurant being empty, we were greeted with a grumpy face and it was obvious the "greek" waiteress did not want us there! After being handed probably the most extensive but worst "Italian" menu I have ever seen, we were served drinks which included horrible warm pints of beer. These were taken away (with no apology) and replaced but they kindly charged us for the discarded pints as well as the replacements.
After ordering our food we had to wait over an hour for our starters (please remember the restaurant was empty apart from another couple) and when they came the disappointment among us set in. I ordered calamari at £9.95 which was the worst and most expensive I have ever had and served with a lettuce leaf and lemon. A couple of my colleagues had 2 small mushrooms stuffed with crab (tastless and made them feel ill) and another colleague had frogs legs (or deep fried bones).
The main courses, all severely over priced did not include vegetables or potatoes so if you ordered a dried up chicken kiev at £14 - that is what you got!! Terrible food!!
Dessert menu came and that consisted of a range of bought in puddings! When we asked if we could have ice cream with an espresso and liquer over it (as served in any other Italian restaurant) we were told no - they don't have the right ice cream!
When a colleaugue ordered a liquer coffee it came and the cream was off and stinking! When we complained, the waiteress (manageress???) sniffed it and walked off without so much as a "sorry"!! A replacement came - exactly the same and again no apology but instead a shocking rant from a male member of staff who brought out a new carton of cream to show us!!
Every drink we asked for seemed to be an inconvenience. Even when we tried to engage the sorry excuse for a waitress in conversation it was clear she did not want to talk.
It came to the point when we all just wanted to leave and we got the bill and paid for it (including the compulsory £34 service charge - unbelievable!) and went on our way.
Next day, a number of us felt ill and on looking at our bill, realised we had been charged for the off beer and an extra starter (£7.95 - we WILL be asking for this back).
All in all, a horrible experience. Menu, staff, prices, service, food and drink all terrible.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!
